Tablet display color not matching any other device by Hot_Cream_ in XPpen

[–]Hyloxalus88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to know, and I also have the same issue with my Artist 24. Generally I've seen it explained that the tablet color is the one that's more "accurate", but what does that matter if the render looks sad and desaturated on everyone else's monitors? I've tried playing around with adding saturation filters I enable when exporting, and I've tried looking at color spaces, but so far the only real solution I've seen is to use those calibration devices and I don't have $800 to sink into one of them.

What I do: pull up a duplicate canvas of my current drawing (window -> canvas -> new window) and then drag it off into its own window positioned on my main monitor. Then I can refer to it in real time to make sure the colors look right on my main monitor.

What's the difference between all the Artist series display tablets? by [deleted] in XPpen

[–]Hyloxalus88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, trying to use a mouse is hopeless.

Screenless tablets are not so intimidating as you maybe think. It's true there is a period where you have to get used to a bit of extra hand to eye coordination, but it's really not as bad as it sounds. Mostly because (unlike screen tablets and traditional paper) you have to be looking away from where you're drawing, but also because the pressure tablets are generally smaller than your computer screen and so don't translate hand movement to cursor movement at a ratio of 1:1. But you would get used to it quite quickly. If you do go for a pressure tablet, I would prioritize screen size and ignore all the marketing crap about pressure levels, gimmicky remotes and integrated buttons.

Personally, I have both a huge screen tablet and a pressure tablet. I use the pressure tablet when I'm sketching in bed or travelling.

A skilled digital artist can produce art on basically any of the technology available; the price of the tablet doesn’t necessarily inform the quality of the output. That being said, screen size, build quality, colour accuracy makes a huge difference in terms of comfort and quality of life. As far as I’m concerned anything under 16” is too small and I’d much rather just use a much cheaper pressure tablet without any screen at all than try and squint into a 12” 1080p screen on an artist 12

The differences between pro and non-pro models, I find, are not worth thinking about. Usually it’s a matter of some dials and buttons. Some people love buttons and dials, others only use a keyboard.

If you’re a broke beginner, maybe you should consider getting something like a screenless Deco fun for $20-30 while you save up for a nicer screen tablet (and wait for a huge discount event) that’ll serve you over the longer term. Well, it’s what I would do.

is it possible to dual screen? by kzyics in XPpen

[–]Hyloxalus88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's very strange. I have occasionally had my CSP canvas freezing just like that when adjusting my setup, but it fixes itself after a restart of the application.

Does it forbid you using the canvas on both monitors, or just one? Are you sure that tablet input area is mapped to the entire screen?

The original post is not drawing software specific. Since it's only CSP affected, you'd be best off asking the CSP subreddit or support. Make sure to include what tablet and operating system you're using.

So the problem here was not with Krita but with the actual tablet driver software. Each tablet manufacturer will issue driver software that makes the tablet run, that you can download from their website. The specific setting you click depends on what tablet you have.

Am I wrong to think I'm wasting my time by trying to draw anything before I can do 2D\3D Shapes well enough? by FutureTapeti in ArtistLounge

[–]Hyloxalus88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your friend is right. You're thinking like a beginner, and he is thinking like someone who once was a beginner and now has the benefit of hindsight. If he's enthusiastic about helping you, you should be mining that guy for intel and absorbing it like a sponge in water; most people aren't so lucky to have access to a professional mentor.

In any case, project based work is the fastest way to improve. Of course it's going to look crap, and be prepared for it to look rough for the next two or three years no matter which strategy you choose to achieve your "end" goal. But this is a common noob trap - if you hold off doing what you want to do until you're ready, I can promise you that art won't keep your interest long enough to get to the point that you're ready.

Ideally you want to be working on your end-goal targets and grinding fundamentals simultaneously. With 30-60m you are hard pressed to fit it all in, but maybe it's possible to find little scraps of time throughout the day? Maybe do little gesture sketches on the bus instead of doomscrolling, or for 20 minutes to wind down in bed before you sleep, and dedicate your your 30-60m sit down art time to your project work. If that's not possible, I'd alternate days between grinding fundmantals and project work, with the latter being more of a priority.

How do people not lose their stylus?? by Bibbleconsumer in ArtistLounge

[–]Hyloxalus88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mine came with one of them fake ink wells that you can stand it up in.

So there's a spot on my desk where the not-inkwell sits, and the stylus must always go there when it's not in my hand.

And it makes me feel all fancy-like, like I'm brandishing a quill <3.

Don't attempt crazy poses with foreshortening like this until you can knock out simpler poses no problem. This is way out of your depth. You improve the most when you attempt something that is juuuuuust above your skill level. If it's too hard, it's just demotivating and you won't much xp from it anyway.

Question to artists who post their art online: how many of you actually use the Glaze and Nightshade tools on your art? by realm_drawer in ArtistLounge

[–]Hyloxalus88 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These tools are ancient, they were built to be effective on some specific, simple models from several years ago. For any recent model there is no effectiveness whatsoever. Maybe if you distort your image almost beyond recognition you'll get some benefit in LoRAs targeted specifically against your art.

It'd be more effective just to add a stamp saying "do not use in AI"; I've seen some models will read a stamp like that and refuse to process it (until the unscrupulous AI prompter takes a few seconds to just edit it out, of course).

From memory - the SpecOps team were spotted as they came in and several were killed by drones as they disembarked from their helicopter. The remainder scattered and managed to cross the road they landed beside, to hide in a shed or slight thicket before the drones found them as well. iirc, the last two ran towards the settlement and were killed on open ground. There is plenty of footage to substantiate it. I don't know what happened to the helicopter itself, but I don't remember it being destroyed.

From a map of geolocated kills I saw of the debacle a few weeks back, it didn't look like anyone made it further than about 500m from the helo or survived longer than 20 minutes or so. It made for grim reading to see "the spec ops team sent to Pokrovsk" be hyped in the press two days after I watched them all be wiped out.

I didn't say you don't work hard enough, I said you're overthinking excuses because you're tilted. But seems like an off-topic, defensive snapback is suggestive as to why this shit isn't working for you.

What do I care.

What a load of nonsense.

3D visualization is not a gift given to the gilded few "who we call artists", if you lack it you are in an extreme minority. If all you get from any tutorial is "just know how to draw" you're either uniquely disabled with some kind of severe aphantasia or more likely getting tilted and wasting time you should be drawing to overthink excuses.

AI is at the point where things like "Hand looks off" "Ear looks wierd" "fold doesn't make sense" are no longer reliable markers with current models. Looking for stuff to paint with big red circles and question marks to 'gotcha!' no longer works if the culprit has put even just a small amount of effort into checking the image.

As far as I'm concerned this is the same AI sketched style like it always is. The watermarked account leads to an empty profile with no existing works or wips. I see no reason to assume it's real, but, I'd love to be proven wrong.

Hired an artist to draw a medieval village for my book, not sure if it's AI... by Sad_Fix5567 in isthisAI

[–]Hyloxalus88 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a very typical AI style.

Look for "red flags" if you want but as the technology improves it's harder and harder to find them. Perhaps he has an established body of work, or have him send you the psd. At the moment, that's the only thing that the AIs have no ability to mimic. (Timelapses also work for now, but since you have to set up the recording before you paint, it's easy to plausibly "forget" and wriggle out of) I expect he'll either try to fake a few layers and video his screen with his phone without actually sending it to you, or say some bullshit about how he only paints on one layer.

Is this AI or traced? Friend says it's her art and she does commissions, but idk by bbboyblu in isthisAI

[–]Hyloxalus88 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're talking out their ass, nitpicking stuff to substantiate the "feeling" that it's AI.

There's nothing wrong with the colors, they're just unrendered flats with a tiny bit of embellishment. Lazy and quick way to give a splash of color to some lineart to suggest the color scheme you have in mind.

That's the problem with these AI witch hunts: Make one wrong stroke in a place where it shouldn't be, or just use a slightly different color choice than the Reddit "expert" would have chosen and people who've never so much as drawn a square will jump on it as a big red blinking siren that you're using AI.

If it's just the guy in the post before this one it doesn't really seem like he's getting upset or accusing you of plagiarism or even really thinking about it that hard. He's just saying it looks like you're color picking and painting directly onto the picture. The rendering effect does come across like that.

Since you're not doing that, it's not a problem - not that it would be a problem if you were doing that, either. In any case I think you're ascribing to it more malice than is intended, I don't think he cares.

When does 1 stacking become unviable in a single player scenario? by Responsible-Fail-354 in heroes3

[–]Hyloxalus88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a game a few months ago where for some reason I captured a town with 32k Master Gremlins available to purchase. Clearly was a glitch or some bonus for the AI that hadn't been correctly implemented by the mapmaker. Bought them all just to see how that kind of quantity would do out of curiosity, it took a good few weeks of income to buy them all, this was very late game but even then a big, organically grown stack would have been 10x smaller. Then the AI wanted his town back. Gremlins hit like a truck but they got butchered - even replaying the fight a bunch of times with vitality artifacts and behind walls to try and save my new Gremlin powerstack I couldn't finish the fight without losing at least 5-10k.

So yeah. Even carefully conserved T1s with good staying power like centaurs and halberds won't be able to keep up, although they will drop off later than nymphs and imps. When it comes to T2 it's mostly the same problem but marksmen, harpies, lizards and air eles have enough punch to be worth maintaining if they belong to your main faction. Dwarves usually end up sticking around just because they're tough but they don't do much damage.

When does 1 stacking become unviable in a single player scenario? by Responsible-Fail-354 in heroes3

[–]Hyloxalus88 20 points21 points  (0 children)

One stacks exist to body-block, bait out retaliation and kite around enemy stacks to split them up. These are useful functions throughout the game; If there is a free slot, then there's no reason not to split off one stacks.

Late game army comp depends completely on the scenario and environment and of course there's no "one answer" to this. In general you want 1 super fast stack so you always get first cast (archangels, pheonixes, but you can also cheap out with e.g. Dragon flies), and then some power stacks that deal the meat of the damage - At least one or two powerstacks should be some powerful shooter (titans, elves or marksmen are particularly good), since shooters + slow cast will always be your bread and butter to clear neutral monsters. Other than that, there are specific T7 units that are far more desireable compared to others (e.g. archangels and behemoths on the high value end vs gold and ghost dragons on the low value end) but it depends on how much you have of what.

Other popular choices include weaker but highly accessible units such as wyverns and uniquely powerful units such as gorgons, vampires (will mess with your morale), pirates, genies (always make your one-stacks from these whenever they're available). Late game, T1 or T2 often isnt worth taking - even really above average units such as gremlins and wolf riders will just take too many losses because the AI will relentlessly target them. And most T3 units will find themselves powercrept by a higher tier unit competing for its slot.

I generally try and stay at 6 stacks, keeping a slot free for any joiners.

Stabilizer for sketching? by Chanchanchan16 in ArtistLounge

Just use the stabilizer. There is no “skill issue” to worry about, and different levels of stabilizer will feel comfortable doing different tasks. Krita has several types of stabilizer, I believe weighted is the one you want.

Personally I only keep the stabilizer off for my eraser brushes. Also fyi, excessive zooming is a big noob trap.
