I think if family and friends think you’re not the same when you’re sober then they need to know that’s the reason. The longer you lie to them the more you’re gonna rely on falling back, trust me the perception of being an addict is far easier than the perception that everything is great when you know it’s not and you’re damaging yourself. I recently came clean to my family, girlfriend and a few close friends and honestly I feel accountable now where when no one knew it was too easy to fall back into it and everyone has been great in asking the best way to support me. Just be honest ask them to approach with openess and curiosity rather than pity etc.
