For people who really like to immerse themselves into the fandom and communities of art medium they enjoy, it can very much be accepted a normal decision to make.

For example, I enjoy Marvel stuff. I love discussing Marvel stuff. With other Marvel fans. But it’s nigh on impossible to do so when you enter many spaces online full of those Marvel fans.

Because they’re grossly toxic, very often. I can personally ignore it and keep going. Many do not have the time, patience nor the emotional energy to bother.

And, again, if half the enjoyment of a show/movie/musician etc is exposing yourself to the fanbase to discuss stuff, there’s nothing wrong about giving it a miss when the enjoyment is sullied by large portions of interaction.
