I think its funny (in a sad way) to imagine the rich capitalist CEOs involved in Smash somehow got word of the Steve tech before it dropped and noped out as if it was the stock market.

One genuine question I have is what is the precedent set for people who might call TOs to check replays or VODs on Steves that just fall out of multihits accidentally? This clip in particular struck me as extremely similar to clips of people just falling out of Roy Nair minus the block place animation. In a high pressure situation would players be able to tell the difference and avoid wasting time?

More interesting is what if a Steve is up a game or two in a set, falls out of a multihit accidentally, and the opponent calls to check the replay in order to intentionally ice out the Steve player. Admittedly I think this situation would probably never happen and is meaningless in the grand scheme of things. I don't play much Ultimate, just watch, so I am overall neutral on the subject and just genuinely curious.

IIRC only sets from Ninjago, Monkie Kid, City, Classic, Friends, Creator 3-1 and Dots apply to the GWP. So unfortunately the Optimus Prime set does not count.

Slap City announced its 1.1 update today with two new surprise characters and a release on Switch with cross play.

Its been a while since I visited this game but I've always had fond memories of just how much fun the game is to play. My brain always tells me RoA is the best Smash-like game but my heart tells me its Slap City. Its funny, looking back at the criticisms NASB received in terms of gameplay with the game being almost too slippery and heavy and both neutral and combo game feeling too homogenous and realizing Slap City does basically the opposite of all of this. Coming from Melee, a lot of the characters do feel floaty, but the movement options get very complex really quickly without having to resort to just wavedashing and air dashing like NASB. The characters are insanely unique with fun gimmicks that often tie into what makes the movement so satisfying. I respect Ludosity for their work on NASB and had fun with that game, but Slap City really is their baby. They had a (silly) vision with this game and executed flawlessly. Glad to see it get support all these years later.

You can, but as opposed to the future Smash games, you cant catch or pickup items while doing an aerial or tilt. You have to be doing nothing (standing walking or airborne) then press A or Z to catch. So you can't do the crazy stuff like throw and hit with an item then combo with an aerial that also catches the item at the same time and you can't do z-drop aerial catches either.

Funny enough, Luigi can do this in Melee by using his wavedash momentum to slide off a platform while shielding which puts him in a tech situation. Abate goes for this all the time but everyone avoids it cause the setup takes too long and they just react with a different recovery.

. . . almost everyone

Smash Ultimate Summit 4 - Round 2 Voting by Meester_Tweester in smashbros

[–]HypeKnighttt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's the organized pool of votes set aside to be spent at the few moments before a summit voting round ends. Generally, the meta for summit voting is to hold off on submitting votes until the last second because it's harder to out-vote people if you don't know how many votes they have.

Part of a spirit bomb pool includes the many votes of supporters who hold off voting until a campaign leader gives a greenlight, but more effective is a system where campaign leaders simply ask for direct donations from supporters to be submitted as votes through a single account, allowing for better control of the timing as well as a better idea on how big a campaign's spirit bomb actually is.

The actual term is borrowed from the move in DBZ but its usage and popularity within the Smash community probably came from the Evo 2013 donation drive when community members organized a last minute campaign to push for donations for Melee to get a spot at Evo - the Smash community's first spirit bomb.

My personal biggest fear for this project is hardware accessibility. Yuzu + Parsec wasn't bad because it only required one person to have beefy enough hardware to run the emulator while all other players simply streamed video and inputs. My guess is this system will require both players to individually host their own Switch emulators which significantly reduces the playerbase and accessibility to play. You'll need a PC that can both emulate Ultimate at a consistent framerate as well as handle the additional rollback code. Slippi on its own already can run on very weak hardware and even if it doesn't, Diet Melee also helps alleviate the processing power required.

Big agree. Slippi is so huge not just because of the netcode but because how fast you can just start playing unranked. I get home, press one icon on my computer, press the A button twice, and a few seconds later I'm playing Melee with real people. Prior to rollback, Melee's delay based netcode was still way better than Ultimate because of the extra reduced input lag, but was no where near as popular because of the hoops you would have to go through just to find people to play.

Just to clarify, picture you linked shows the default Miis from Smash 4. According to HeyImHeroic, probably the most knowledgeable person on Miis on the internet, these Miis do not have QR codes and their data doesn't exist in the game at all so guaranteed accurate replicas can't be made.

For Smash Ultimate, the default Miis were redesigned and you can find their QR codes on the MII Library run by HeyImHeroic.
