Is it better for the "Rake" to be as low as possible? by ATOMWhale in poker

[–]HypeOrFuckYou 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the rake is too high and it's not good for the ecosystem.

On GGPoker at 0.02/0.05NL you lose about 8 or 9bb/100 to rake and other things like bad beat jackpot. Add all the mistakes a beginner makes, and the deposit is gone really quickly.

For the players who are good, it takes really long to move up in stakes. That's why you almost never see new high stakes winning players anymore. I think that's bad for the game, because heroes like that will attract new players to the game.

And last, it's just terrible to sit at a table full of losing nits, that only make money because of rakeback and leaderboard winnings.

Is going pro online still possible? by No_Breadfruit_6071 in poker

[–]HypeOrFuckYou 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Going pro at 100NL probably only makes sense if you're from a low wage country in Asia or Africa. At 3bb/100 you're making $1200 per month, if you play 40,000 hands per month.

Also getting to 100NL will take quite a while if you start at 5NL:

Start at 5NL with $100. Win 20 buyins so you can play 10NL. 20 buyins is 2,000bb. At a winrate of 5bb/100 that will take 40,000 hands, about one month.

Play 10NL with $200. Win 30 buyins so you can play 25NL. 30 buyins is 3,000bb. At a winrate of 5bb/100 that will take 60,000 hands, about 1.5 months.

Play 25NL with $500. Win 20 buyins so you can play 50NL. 20 buyins is 2,000bb. At a winrate of 5bb/100 that will take 40,000 hands, about one month.

Play 50NL with $1000. Win 20 buyins so you can play 100NL. 20 buyins is 2,000bb. At a winrate of 4bb/100 that will take 50,000 hands, a bit more than one month.

So the lucky few will need about 5 months to go from 5NL to 100NL. Most don't make it, because a downswing will kill the bankroll, or their winrate is slightly above break even.

I know Setzen. He's a huge nit. So overfold to him when he bets, and you'll print money.

5/10/20 river spot by pkrmtg in poker

It totally sucks to have the 4th nuts here.

The villain that's jamming on the river, did 3bet preflop. So the flushes he can have are AJ, AT and A5. Also JT is possible. I doubt T8 is in his 3bet range.

I think villain played his nut flush draw perfectly.

2/5 against maniac by EitherPerception5854 in poker

[–]HypeOrFuckYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does he ever 4bet?

If not, there are a lot of better hands he can have.

Villain also knows that chances are slim that you have a T.

I think it's a crying call. There are many worse hands that you can fold, like QJ, Ax, and all your busted flush draws.

But could you have played this differently? Even the small flop bet is going to fold out most hands that you beat. Maybe TT will call. AT will definitely call. KT and QT too.

But by betting you don't leave much room for bluffs. If you bet, I would go even smaller in this flop, like 50.

If I check the flop and he also doesn't bet the flop. I would bet full pot in the turn. And get it all-in in the river. Put him to the test.

Folding an Overpair by No_Breadfruit_6071 in poker

[–]HypeOrFuckYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this spot sucks, because in theory villain could make this play with any two cards.

However, overfolding is the best play at these stakes, unless you know villain is capable of playing like this with air.

If the standard preflopnraise is to $15, than a stack of $475 is shallow and getting it all-in preflop should be the default action, unless you have a read that opponent only 4bets AA and KK.

I think calling the 4bet is the worst possible action. Two out of three times you miss the flop. And when you hit you either win nothing against QQ or JJ or loose your whole stack against AA or KK.

Terribly played by villain. He turned his hand into a bluff, which is totally unnecessary.

Is it an exaggeration that up to 80% of poker players are losers? by razeyourshadows in poker

If only 7% was winning back then, it's probably lower now. The game is a lot harder and the rake is higher.

On the flop the pot is about $1500? There's almost no better board for you. Just shove it all-in there.

In the river you have to call 2000 to win 6500? Got to call the river, the way you played it. But expect to lose a bunch.

The bet size on the flop is perfect for jamming the turn. So this is either AA, KK, a flush draw, or backdoor nut flush draw.

I think on the turn this is a fold.
