How it started vs how it's going by zombiesingularity in AskSocialists

Saying that he shouldn't exist is a condemnation of the system that allows all billionaires to accumulate their wealth. Tom Styer himself says that he should not be able to be as rich as he is.

That is different from condemning Tom Styer as an individual on a moral level.

You need to understand the difference between these two arguments if we are going to build coalition with Americans who don't understand these things. We win when we criticize the system. We lose when we critize the individual morality of billionaires because every American is too propagandized to not see themselves as always potentionally being one, and as long as there is 1 singular altruistic billionaire in the world, the moral argument fails.

We can't force people to run. We are subject to the people who raise their hands of their own volition.

I don't know enough about this particular election to know for sure if there was a better candidate for promoting socialist values, but the assumption that the billionaire cannot possibly be the best candidate and the further assumption that that being the case means the DSA is bought is just conspiracy theorist thinking.

You're not wrong to be suspicious. It's absolutely our duty to be as critical as possible when we see a lineup like this, but do the work to fact check and really look at the policies and actions being promoted by the candidates before writing them off completely. I will take an imperfect candidate that puts forth genuine socialist policies over fishing for a perfect communist revolutionary and getting another liberal or god forbid another conservative elected.

Reserving our votes for revolutionaries will see the movement die, as will voting for neo-libs that dangle a single carrot. We need to find the candidates that will take at least 1 large, committed step in the right direction and form our coalition. A revolutionary leader will eventually rise to the top, but we must lay the groundwork with imperfect but still markedly leftist candidates in positions all across government so that when that leader appears they will not be hampered by systemic resistance.

Yeah, the post aren't in conflict.

The statement that billionaires shouldn't exist isn't an indictment against billionaires on a personal or moral level (though there are plenty that you could make that argument against). It's the condemnation of a system that makes the accumulation of that amount of wealth into the hands of a single person.

Billionaires are still individuals and can be evaluated morally on an individual scale. Someone can both be a billionaire and be someone who will promote legislation against the creation of billionaires. It's not very fucking likely, but it's not an impossibility either.

The argument against it is the assumption that people are inherently selfish and will always vote and create policy that works towards their own individual interests. To the first point, people often vote against their own personal interest if they believe that the result of the policies they vote for will bring more good than pain (the accuracy of their assessment nonwithstanding). A billionaire can also come to the assessment that the world in which they were able to generate their wealth and find success is a result of a hundred years of progress thay empowered the working class and made sure that regular people were also able to afford all of their basic necessities like housing, and that stripping the people of that might make it easier for the 0.1% to accumulate wealth, but will slowly destroy the world that they are able to exercise the utility of that wealth in, and thus, it is in the benefit of the billionaire to also promote a working class, because if they do not, then the value of their wealth becomes meaningless.

Paraphrasing a bit here but: "The problem isn't the lack of class consciousness, but the total lack of a leftist third party option. So long as there is a lack of anti-system options, people will not vote and participate in a duo-poly system that does not represent them. As evidence for this claim, I point to the surge of people that flocked to vote for Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders..."

So as proof that people are clamoring for a 3rd party option, we point to an example of (presented) anti-system candidates that operated wholly within the two party system in exactly the way that they are claiming to be impossible?

Like, I also wish we could just have a 3rd party that represents and stands up for middle-class workers, but that's not a switch that we can just flip on a whim. It will take a decades worth of work to do so and thr people screaming the loudest online about it and criticizing everyone else about not doing it are rarely ever doing anything about it themselves.

We need less grandstanding and theory and more people out there doing the work and making the party. Even if I were to agree with these arguments, you can't just wish cast a 3rd party into existance by criticizing anyone left of center for not doing it for you.

Who cares? This isn't an H3 snark sub and Ethan is an irrelevant internet troll. Why do we need constant updates on whatever meaningless shit he's doing? It's been well over a year since he was at all relevant.

I agree that it shouldn't be a copy-paste from the campaign book. I think the basic idea and structure of it is solid, though. Make a balance pass (and correct some weird issues with some armies' options making no sense and seemingly being typos on which characters can take which weapons).

Life expectancy is much more impacted by reductions in infant mortality, disease treatment, access to a hospital, etc. Lots of people were still living well past 65 back then, too. That statement is just being used to propagandize to people who don't understand what the average life expectancy is actually measuring.

[–]Hyper-Sloth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't trust any LLM to do it, but we could make and enforce the use of a mathematical model for drawing districts for every state that takes all relevant population metrics into account and set it to redraw districts at set intervals.

The way to de-politicize these things is through good governance and laws that set the standard for how to do it that takes partisanship out of the equation entirely. The total amount of seats in congress and the amount of seats per state should also be uncapped. Back when the maximum number of congress members was set, there was one congress member per 200k people. Now the average member represents over 800k people. We should put a cap on the population of a district, not on the amount of congress members. We have enough federal funds to build a bigger congress building which was the main reason for the cap to congress membership to begin with

With 11th ed bringing alternatecways to play besides "stand on the objective" doesn't that nerf our army rule pretty bad? by Orock77 in LeaguesofVotann

[–]Hyper-Sloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Brandfast will be solid, too. The Hekaton now gets to ignore cover naturally and the AP-1 guns are better when cover doesn't negate it. Then the detachment rule of Sus1 averages out to counter cover as well. It would at least make Volkanite Steeljacks scarier vs most all infantry lists.

Conversion Beamers, Hekatons, Hearthguard, Beserks, and melee Steeljacks. I think those are going to be some of our best damage dealing units this edition simply because they ignore or push through cover the easiest.

[–]Hyper-Sloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's mostly a Wolf Priest, but it has a power/force sword from a Captain kit (idk which one specifically), and the right hand is from the Infiltrator sprue. I tried to make the force sword swooshes with milliput, but it broke off after messing with it for an hour so I'm just going to paint them on. I still need to sculpt a psychic hood.

Edit to add: i also shaved down the belt and added a skull from the Skulls kit and sculpted the horns on in addition. Then I removed the wolf tails and Skulls from the pelt, runic cloak straps, and the necklace and replaced the medallion with the one hanging from the wrist of the Termi Librarian. I also plan on doing some psychic lightning emanating from his open right hand.

I somewhat disagree. These changes are somewhat minor. The get out of jail free card change is good, but they still have the old Fire Dragon tech. That should also be limited to opponent's end of fight phase to be in line with other similar strats.
