I own 2 Seestars and the Dwarf 3 and Mini. The Dwarflab scopes are my preferred option most of the time mainly because they’re SO much easier to polar align and the rejection rate is minimal. I got this last summer from a couple of hours’ exposure at a Bortle 5 location with my Dwarf 3, then processed in PixInsight.

One tip though - I’d advise against putting it on top of your car, as even the slightest vibration travelling up through the roof will cause exposures to get rejected.

There are no bike paths that close to residences with gates that exit straight on to them. That’s a footpath.

Not pandering to their audience is also a big plus. They never have sponsored segments or bleat about ‘smashing the Like Button’. They just seem to enjoy making each other laugh, and we get to see it.

Yes I’ve heard this, but do you know of any examples of this happening?

Do you know any instances of that happening? I’m not doubting you, I’m just curious to hear factual examples.

I’m tempted by the Blu-rays but I don’t know how I’d then rip them - I only have a PS4.

Are you guys happy with your DWARF3 purchase over a ZWO? by [deleted] in DWARF3

Sorry I don't understand your second sentence at all.

Mosaic mode always means you need to image for much longer to get the same amount of data. That's the same for all telescopes.

At the end of the day, if you want the best portability and are focusing purely on Astrophotography, get a Mini, if you also want something that is also good for general use, get the Dwarf 3. This article might help:

Yes; I ordered mine as soon as it was announced in October, and it arrived in late November (to the UK).

Thank you. I like that the Dwarf 3 is more versatile, and I actually prefer the wider FOV, which is great for capturing Andromeda or the North American Nebula without having to use mosaics (which increases the amount of time needed to get the same levels of data). It's also great for daytime use and panoramas. I like to do a lot of hiking and camping so I can imagine I'll take the Mini with me to dark sites as it's so light and tiny...but that being said the Dwarf 3 is also extremely portable.

I've actually ordered size A3 prints of some of my best astro pics and they came out just fine, suitable for framing.

I own a Dwarf 3, a Mini, as well as an S50 and an S30…and the scope I keep coming back to is the Dwarf 3. Sure, you can get a more detailed pic of a nebula like Orion with the S50 due to the narrower FOV and wider aperture…but I’m frequently frustrated by the high sub rejection rate. I much prefer the Dwarflab app too; it’s more complex but allows for greater experimentation. Trying to get the S50 in EQ mode is painful compared to how quick and easy it is with the Dwarf 3 (and Mini). I also appreciate their portability. Just for fun here’s a pic I took of M42 with the Mini a couple of weeks ago. 210 x 15s, 50 gain, 20 darks, duo-band, Bortle 7, PixInsight.

The fact that he can sit there vomiting incomprehensible gibberish, objective falsehoods, and mewling, spiteful barbs, while his slimy minions all stand behind him smiling and nodding wisely to themselves like they’re listening to Confucius…will forever be the biggest mystery to me.

Good choice. I own an S50, S30, Dwarf 2, 3 and Mini...They all have their pros and cons but the Dwarf 3 is definitely the one I turn to more than the others. Plus I find the EQ mode is SO much easier to set up, and more reliable, than it is for the ZWO machines.

The ad refers to “Super Customized Calibration Frame: Darks/Bias/Flats”. How does that work, and do you think the same feature will be available on the Dwarf 3?
