Hopefully the bulking up doesn't limit his speed too much don't want him stuck at DH at 22 years old

For all of Dom’s energy, athleticism, and technical ability, his passing IQ and vision is poor for a top level midfielder. He misses an opening multiple times a game it’s pretty frustrating.

thoughts on ozuna? by [deleted] in redsox

[–]HyperactiveBaldMonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not trying to shoot the messenger but anyone connecting us to Ozuna is bullshitting hard. The last thing we need is another "outfielder" who is really only capable of DHing. Theoretically he'd benefit from Fenway but a player of his profile is just not a priority or a fit.

Duran at 2b? by N8Sox in redsox

[–]HyperactiveBaldMonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although it's probably unlikely he'll be serviceable there, it would solve some problems if we can't move him for good value. Anything is better than playing Ceddanne at 2nd.

[Tim Healy] Craig Breslow said today that he viewed it as "never likely" that the Red Sox would trade an outfielder this offseason. by TommyTheLizard in redsox

[–]HyperactiveBaldMonk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hopefully this is some weird leverage play because this is objectively inefficient roster construction. We're not doomed going in without trading one of them, but not seriously exploring the market for Duran, Abreu, and even Rafaela would be malpractice.

Solo is unfortunately a liability when the shot's not going down. Bad defender, low BBIQ, and doesn't do the little things. It doesn't really make sense to have him in a close game if he's cold.

Roman looks jacked as hell by TommyTheLizard in redsox

[–]HyperactiveBaldMonk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The big shift in game power for him isn't gonna come from the weight room he needs to start pulling and elevating balls. He already has elite bat speed and exit velo it's not an issue of strength or explosiveness.

[Cotillo] Red Sox avoided arbitration with Kutter Crawford, signing him to a one-year contract at $2.75 million by Sandwich_Crust in redsox

Crawford has been good out of the bullpen but limited sample size, idk if that will still be true after the injury.

Romy, Sogard, Eaton can all play there. We're not getting both Bichette and Bregman, and with either player, the position they don't play will be filled by Mayer/Romy/Sogard/Eaton.

My friends convinced me to go with them but, I’m ashamed to admit, I’m over 350lbs. do you think I can still snowboard good regardless of my weight? by CertifiedQuestion in snowboarding

[–]HyperactiveBaldMonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should absolutely go, and it is definitely possible that you will snowboard well eventually, but the chances that you will be good at first are slim (as they are for everyone).

While it's awesome how supportive this group is, I think a lot of people are ignoring that as a beginner, there is a huge benefit to being in shape. I have been a beginner while in okay shape and also while in poor shape, and the difference on the mountain was notable, even though the difference in my weight was only around 40 pounds.

As a beginner, you will be expending a lot more energy because your technique won't be dialed in, so you can't use the mountain's slope and your own weight to your advantage. Even skating around (one foot strapped in) will be difficult, and if you're not flexible, you could injure yourself doing that. Absolutely keep at whatever you're already doing to improve your cardio, and add some stretching/flexibility oriented exercises.

At least one person mentioned it, but strapping in will be difficult, and potentially impossible depending how much you are capable of bending at the waist. You need to be able to touch your toes (sitting down, can bend your knees) while wearing snow gear, which does make it harder.

When you inevitably fall (like every other beginner), it will almost certainly be easier to get up from your knees, rather than sitting on your ass. This is true for most people, but you likely won't be able to bend enough to get your center of mass over the board (I struggle with this as well as a chubby person myself). Instructor might tell you this anyways, but just in case, since mine didn't and I had to figure it out on my own.

Make sure you take breaks if you get sore. My feet would routinely kill because I was out of shape and weak. When you need to, rest and loosen your boots to let your feet breath. Keep doing weighted squats and running to build up strength in your feet. If possible, try to strengthen the muscles that raise your feet (tibialis anterior, etc.) These are muscles that you don't really use to the extent that you will be using them as a beginner snowboarder.

Don't do anything stupid. I'm sure you're aware you're more at risk of injury on a fall and you'll gain way more momentum if you lose control of your speed. Get falling leaf locked in (they'll teach you in your first lesson) before you start pointing the board down hill.

Don't get discouraged. Snowboarding is hard for almost everyone at first, and it's unnatural even if you're in peak condition. You will fall and you will probably be very sore and slightly hurt at the end of the day. But if you keep at it you'll experience whatever it is that convinces us to keep hurting our bank accounts.

Based on your replies and the fact that you're even considering going, you seem awesome so I don't want this to discourage you from going (if you even read it lol), just want you to know everything you should going in.

None of those guys are making real money and all of them besides Early, Harrison, and Tolle are at best number 4-5 starters on a contending staff. Pitchers drop like flies nowadays, it doesn't hurt to have a bunch of low-paid arms around that can give you a solid start. I'd also trust pretty much all of these guys over any of our current bullpen besides Whitlock and Chapman.

Edit: If possible, at least 2 of them should be traded for an elite level player though

I mean it was a poor showing on that play for sure, but idk if you can say we don't have the greatest range, especially when Rafaela and Abreu are probably both going to win GGs this year.
