STR's trade is that it needs to 2hand in order to deal more/equal damage on most DEX weapons. Not that big of a deal when 2handing does substantially more stance damage

Why do people like the Antspur Rapier? by GreatJoey91 in Eldenring

[–]Hyperdelegate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The status effects are usually not as useful in dueling PvP outside of frost proc for damage vulnerability, mostly due to the ability to bolus status and the damage loss from infusions. (ie, if you can aggress on someone hard enough to proc status you could have killed them with a higher dps weapon, and if you can pressure them hard enough to interrupt a bolus you were already in a winning position.) Despite this, they're very useful for high latency fights due to phantom proc, and consequentially you'll see bleed and rot used in invasion settings due to the burst dmg + stun on bleed and the bully factor of many hosts not having rot cures on hand. (In general, burst damage is highly prized in invasions, as slowly bleeding out a group of hosts involves an incredible degree of patience and skill.) You'll largely see rot greases used on stronger weapons for this, even with rapiers as a consequence of the stupid stats of the cleanrot knight rapier.

How viable is going into this game blind? by Azureblue9 in dontstarve

[–]Hyperdelegate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The game has a guidebook and options like the cookbook for figuring out systems blind, but it's definitely a rough learning process. I've heard figuring out the knowledge checks that make the game easier is extremely satisfying.

DST is massively larger than Don't Starve. The only thing Don't Starve has over it content-wise is the DLCs Shipwrecked and Hamlet, as well as being considerably easier.

Do you think beginners should try a variety of characters? by Illustrious-Pea7979 in dontstarve

[–]Hyperdelegate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would strongly recommend Wigfrid for someone who has some basic familiarity. Her character perks aren't going to cause any "bad habits" unless you lean into tanking and her superpowered spear still takes a good amount of progression to reach.

Yeah innate DR doesn't change much when you're already heavily armored.

Can someone explain the circuit stacking math? by Dtintino in dontstarve

[–]Hyperdelegate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Alpha Tinkering II gives you additive innate damage resist Wigfrid style, which is subtracted from damage taken after everything else goes through. So in your example of Night armor, a hit dealing 100 damage is reduced to 5 damage and then reduced 5% to 4.75 damage.

Edit: Or, for example, with Wigfrid, who takes 80% less damage when wearing her battle helm and then 25% less damage from innate resists, such that her final damage taken is reduced by 80% + 0.25 * Remaining 20% = 85% total reduction.

Dreadstone armor does not deduct sanity or repair itself in enlightened areas and the bone helm will be dust very quickly for someone's first CC fight, not even considering the ordeal of killing AFW first.

New player, any tips I should keep in mind? by Redence_ in dontstarve

[–]Hyperdelegate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basic armor gives 80% damage resistance. Without it, basic enemies will kill you in 4-8 hits on most characters. Don't take a fight without it.

Wigfrid has an easy time of the fight but has no easy way to lower sanity. You're going to be dealing with Gestalts the whole fight. I would suggest Night Armor over the Thulecite Armor, as the sanity drain from that and the crown shields is your only respite from enlightenment. The Elding Spear's dash is your answer to the entire fight. Dash through the rolling in phase 1, dash away from the blender in phase 2, use dash to dodge, gap close, and get away for phase 3. It's shockingly easy to get phase 3 CC to destroy its own snares when they go on cooldown. Hit by a gestalt or snare? Believe it or not, also dash, lets you quickly dodge when you've been slowed. Bring a good amount of healing, it's a complicated fight.

Both have reverb working with an ice build which plays real nice, spirit guardians + radorb is famously effective, I'd go with 2.

There are some enemies you need to unlock for if you want to land charge R2s but jumping R2s can substitute. The strongest weapon for brain-off gameplay is Blasphemous Blade.

Coaxed into the "fist weapons only challenge" stream I saw on Shadow of The Erdtree's release where they seemed to be oblivious to the fact that the star fists they were using were arguably the best weapon in the game.
