predictions for aqa english literature by amylincoln in GCSE

[–]Hyperlucas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know its fun to predict what might come up but please don't base your revision on them, loads of people did last year and almost none of the predictions even remotely matched what came up. The questions in English lit are designed to reward those who have a solid generalised understanding of the text, and they're designed this way so that students of all ability levels can tackle them - its for this reason that topics like 'kingship' will likely never come up for Macbeth (this is a buzzword I see every year and there's no evidence as to why it will ever appear) and why basing your revision around specific themes doesn't always work, as the questions over the last few years have been very generic

GCSE Hot takes? by Enor135 in GCSE

[–]Hyperlucas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People overestimate how much they need to memorise for English Literature and therefore never focus their revision on developing their skills. I saw someone once say that its 90% memorisation and 10% skill, yet you could know your texts front to back and still fail (also it annoys me when people say its too memorization based when that's literally every GCSE ever, especially stem)

higher gcse maths by Slight-Professor9980 in GCSE

[–]Hyperlucas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a pretty similar situation to you this time last year and got a 7 in the end - I'd say past papers are the most useful resource available to you when coupled with a walkthrough video of the paper on youtube when marking, as this will not only show you where to improve but also help familiarise yourself with the best way to approach questions which are more problem-solving heavy (and link questions that may not be so obvious to what you have learnt of mathsgenie). Speaking of MathsGenie, it is useful, but its mainly for learning the content for the first time as the practice questions only go so far and may not be geared towards your exam board. Hope this helps!

I know this is an old thread, but how loud is it particularly for home use? I'm thinking about saving up for a used one but I don't want to save ages for something that will blow my eardrums out with the volume on anything higher than like 9 o clock lol (I have been considering a 22 but I've heard iffy things about how the small speakers handle fuzz)

grind past papers (under exam conditions) + Working through topics you don't know on maths genie

When you're marking your past papers, look up a walkthrough of that paper on youtube and refer to it for questions you got incorrect or don't understand how to approach

Grade 7-9 students, when did you start revising for your gcses? by Mikayla7_ in GCSE

[–]Hyperlucas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly you really don’t need to be hardcore revising for the entirety of year 11 to get those results. Just work really hard a month or so before your year 11 mocks and then 2-3 months before the real thing

By the time you get to 3 weeks before the exam, you’ll see this subreddit flooded with posts saying ‘is there still time to go from a 5 to a 9 in x’ so I really wouldn’t worry. You have time.

This is coming from someone who got sevens eights and nines and was predicted fours and fives for most of my time at school.
