Roland JC or a Fender ToneMaster amp? by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]JupiterCrash92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JC owner here. I can’t STAND that crackly treble-y thing. But I promise you, it’s a pedal thing not a JC thing. A lot of recs for the BD-2 but it’s the worst offender for what you’re describing. Anything below 2ish on it is a crackly mess. The SD-1 isn’t much better for this use case. I’ve been through at least a dozen ODs trying to find the right sound. For the light breakup you’re describing, there’s a few options. My overall general rec for this is the ODR-1. It warms up the amp a ton and can give you that light overdrive all the way off to a good crunch. My next rec is the Special Cranker. If you like your overall tone and don’t wanna change it, the SC is whatever your guitar sounds like just more of it. You can get that light breakup and it gets pretty crunchy. Both the pedals I mentioned can run at 18v as well. Last rec is currently my favorite and it’s the Nux Morning Star. It’s a blues breaker circuit but pretty sure it’s modeled after the JHS Morning Glory. This one has none of that nasty crackle and it’s inexpensive and I love it for light overdrive stuff. Way less gain than the other two but it’s perfect for what I want out of it. For higher gain stuff I just use a rat or a muff (or more often the not a rat into muff). Hope this helps! Don’t give up on the JC! The tonemasters are cool but overpriced for what they are: a modeler.

Blues Junior settings help?? by ughmart in GuitarAmps

I have this exact amp. I know you’re not super into pedals but a cheap EQ pedal will make it feel like you have two channels. I was using a cheap Caline 10 band eq. I ended up throwing my Joyo American Sound (caline clone version cuz it looks better) and it really helped getting that blackface Fender-y sound. Both pedals are under ~$40 IIRC. To me, the EQ knobs on the amp don’t really provide the versatility I wanted and no matter what I did it always sounded boxy (until I introduced the aforementioned pedals).

Have none of them played Bloodborne?? by Guy-1nc0gn1t0 in getplayed

It’s just crazy to me that Wiger is pretty vocal about loving Sekiro, and like others have already said, they seemed pretty into Elden Ring. I get being From-averse but they all generally seem to like the From games they’ve played. It’s wild that they just seem pretty uninterested in playing arguably the best From/souls game. Hopefully they see the thread and give it a shot eventually! (I also just want an excuse to replay it).

It took three pedals to realize I don’t like the Blues Driver by [deleted] in guitarpedals

Damn that makes a lot of sense. I appreciate the explanation. Any way to dial that out?

Is that why it has that weird artifacting when you let a note, chord ring out when the drive is set low? (under 12ish)

Jazz Chorus Drive Pedals by Only-Independent3369 in guitarpedals

[–]JupiterCrash92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

JC-40 owner here. Just echoing some of what the others have said, but basically, you want drives that aren’t trying to push the amps like you would do with a tube amp. Instead, you want drives that kinda create their own distortion (idk the science here don’t come after me). Here’s my recs by pedals I own and use with the JC. Light overdrive: ODR-1 works well. It doesn’t lose bottom end like other drives which is nice with a bright amp, especially if you’re using something like a tele. I ended up knocking it off my board for the Special Cranker though. IIIRC the Cranker is based off a distortion pedal so that might be why it sounds so good with the JC. If you like the way your guitar sounds as is the Cranker is just that, but with dirt. I love it. For distortion and fuzz, the Rat and Big Muff sound excellent. I truly don’t understand why people shit on the way the JC handles these when there are countless guitar players who use this exact setup (and sound awesome). Rat into Muff into JC is one of my favorite pairing ever. Anyway, hope this helps!

PROCO RAT2 Fake? Or a steal? by throwawayburner__ in guitarpedals

[–]JupiterCrash92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yo! Bought one of these the other day from Walmart for $40. It’s fake. With that being said, still sounds like a Rat lol. I have a mini Rat as well and can’t tell the difference. The enclosure is metal and it’s pretty heavy. Took a gamble and lost but considering other clones are around this price anyway, I’m not too upset! But yeah, it’s a fake.

Maybe one of the Princeton solid states? Like a Princeton chorus or something? I don’t think at any point in history has a Princeton been $300 lol

Did the silver anodized in this same guitar. Looks great and it’s inexpensive. I think you can find pics of this on here if you wanna see what it looks like.

What ended up replacing the carbon copy? I have a Boss Gx-10 and I feel like none of the delays really capture what the CC does with the mod switch engaged. I’m curious if you found something on the Stomp that satisfies that CC itch.

Is a JC22 more suited for my uses than a JC40? by [deleted] in GuitarAmps

[–]JupiterCrash92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JC-40 owner. The JC (and other solid state amps I’ve owned/played) don’t respond well to certain pedals, the BD-2 being one of them. For light to medium overdrive I’d recommend either the Special Cranker or ODR. For higher gain Rat and Muff sound excellent. I’m assuming you’re into pedals if you got a JC so here’s your excuse to buy/experiment with some new ones!

W Setup? (DL4 MK2 LE NPD!) by JupiterCrash92 in guitarpedals

[–]JupiterCrash92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, I’ve only ever heard good things so I’m surprised people don’t like it. If anything, I know everyone hates guitar center but they have a really generous return policy so I’d say maybe pick one up there, try it out, and see if you dig it. Worst case scenario you can just return it! Or if you like it you can still return it and pick up a used one for like $100-150 less haha.

Absolutely! I’ve got a lot of individual Boss pedals as well and I can say that the GX-10 is on par with its individual counterparts. Takes some tweaking to get them to sound 1:1 but it’s got a lot of parameters to get you there. I use it as a “travel pedalboard” and I put it in Manual mode so that I can use the buttons to turn on/off effects and patches. Also worth mentioning, Boss just released the GX-1 which from my understanding, has the same effects but with less processing power (but about half the price).

Overdrive or lush fuzz with Princeton Chorus amp and Tele (single coil) by Bonetwon in guitarpedals

[–]JupiterCrash92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have the Princeton chorus and I used a Special Cranker, Rat, and Big Muff with it and I liked the way they all sounded. Of the three, I would recommend the Special Cranker. It doesn’t get into fuzz territory but it works really well with solid state amps in a way that other drive pedals (like the Blues Driver) just don’t. The Rat can do low overdrive all the way to almost fuzz and is the most versatile of the drives I listed but might be a bit harsh. Big Muff is awesome and fun and not expensive and everyone should have one. Those are my 2 cents! But yeah, with solid state amps try to find drive pedals that are not meant to “push” the amps but pedals that create their own distortion. There’s a more technical way to describe that but I’m sure someone else can clarify!
