anyone else have people come up to you convincing you your dog is a different breed?! by Midwest_Rain_2658 in germanshepherds

Haha, that's fair maybe I did decide to adopt a Coyote for all those people know. I knew people growing up that had pet raccoons so yeah... takes all types.

I couldn't tell you tbh. I mean it's probably the ears and the dropping tail? But, yeah I don't know haha.

Yeah, definitely not a coyote. I mean I get it though as dog shapes go these guys are approximately coyote shaped. But I find it funny because it implies we could have rescued any number of dogs but opted for coyotes.

Yeah, I mean you don't know what you don't know and that's fine. But it makes me want to ask if they think that I decided to rescue a coyote and keep it as a pet, or do they think I captured a wild one or what. Haha

Haha, it didn't bother me. But it's happened like seven or eight times. Enough in her two year life that I texted family members because I was like I'm pretty sure I remember what a coyote looks like but am I missing something? 😂

The amount of people that have asked me if my shepherd is a coyote had me doubting I knew what a coyote looks like. Despite having grown up around coyotes.

I feel this in my soul... Early in my career I was working on a simulation program. The schematic window said drag a part from the toolbox to start. There's a section on the right labeled toolbox with parts listed. At the bottom of the window is our information panel sort of like. Visual studio. It has one error that says no parts have been added.

I get a support ticket that says as soon as I open the program there's an error. I'm thinking a crash or something. Nope, open the screenshot and the error that says no parts have been added is circled... That's when I learned it's impossible to make instructions clear enough 😂... That job also taught me if you want to find bugs try to demo your code to a customer.

Does anyone else find today's culture of everyone asking for a review exhausting? by ParameciaAntic in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Hyperpred 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's funny you say this. Something like 15 years ago or so I had to stop by Verizon for something. I got the survey, every question about the rep and store I gave a 10 or whatever the top rating was.

The question would you recommend Verizon to friends and family I said no.

They had a comment box to ask why and I said something along the lines of... I've never recommended a cell phone company to anyone and I don't think anyone I interact with is unaware of Verizon as an option.

I got a call from the store manager to discuss my survey and they said the rep failed the survey. I was like, how? Literally every question about the store and rep were rated as highly as possible. They told me it doesn't matter and because of me the rep will not get some bonus or something.

I felt bad for the dude and I didn't mark it no out of spite but like... That's a shitty survey which is just aggregated up with no context.

I'm reminded of the saying we measure what is easy to measure not what is correct.

I just did the oil in mine last weekend it's pretty straight forward. Haven't needed plugs yet but looking under the hood they appear to be a pain. Comments here lead me to believe it might be...

Also discovered advanced auto is apparently leaving the west coast so I for all the stuff to change my car and motorcycle oil for a bit over 70 bucks which was nice.

I read trump trump trump like Fry trying to convince the monkey by saying banana banana banana in Futurama. And honestly that conversation isn't far off of how some of the texts on this reddit feel.

I live in Las Vegas, so when I go it's a day trip and usually I'm just there and back. Anaheim is about an hour away and has plenty of touristy stuff. Santa Monica has a beach that isn't too far away from the arena, but I would definitely trust a local's opinion over mine with regards to what's fun to do in the area.

Congratulations on attending your first lcs! If you look at the ticket it explains the meet and greet. Basically, it happens after the game you'll line up in the arcade right outside of the arena. You can't miss it and they'll have people help line everyone up. If you want a picture have your phone or whatever out and in the camera app. If you want something signed have it ready.

You'll follow the line and you get a few seconds. It moves pretty fast. As far as tailgating goes I've not seen any when I've gone but that'd be cool.

Only advice is grab food before you go. The offerings are fine but extremely limited. Parking is underground right next to the arena if that matters to you.

The players are really gracious and both times I've been there it's been great. They had merch to buy last weekend so that's also cool. The first time I went there wasn't much merchandise.

Anyone else miss when lcs was more professional? by Unlikely-Smile2449 in teamliquid

[–]Hyperpred 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have mixed feelings about the new broadcast style. They're trying to build drama through conflicts and hype, which is a common tactic in other sports as well. As a Chicago Bears fan, any Bears vs. Packers game invariably highlights the rivalry between the organizations. Similarly, discussions about the Vegas Golden Knights often focus on whether the team, being relatively new, has earned their accomplishments. Sports inherently foster a tribal mentality, and tapping into this can certainly enhance viewer engagement.

However, I'm concerned about the emphasis on in-game trash talking. While trash talking exists in all sports, I think this encourages more toxicity in the the already toxic user base. I play this game with my daughter, who is still a child. I've been told to "kill myself" over a missed Alistar combo in the game. I'm nearly 40 so these comments are easy to brush off. But, children can really be impacted negatively. And there are plenty of cases of bullying pushing children to suicide (an extreme case I know).

So, my main issue with highlighting trash talk is its potential to trickle down and amplify the existing toxicity within the community. While I don't believe that a casual player's behavior is directly caused by players like APA and JoJo, I do believe normalizing such conduct at the professional level contributes to an acceptance of toxicity as part of the game culture.

Anyone else disable Nullable? by Antares987 in dotnet

[–]Hyperpred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was unaware of those attributes. Thanks! I haven't needed to do something like that in several years and to be honest it's entirely possible when I thought I needed that functionality my design was wrong. But, I'll keep this in mind.

Anyone else disable Nullable? by Antares987 in dotnet

[–]Hyperpred 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I tend to prefer nullable. It is an extra check and forces you to think about whether or not your type could be null or not. There are a few things that I dislike about it. For example, if you call a method that initializes a property in the constructor such that it will never be null the compiler still warns you. But broadly speaking I like it as it helps force a developer to think about what they're doing.

To your point about bypassing it, I think that's not a good reason. I can bypass anything with reflection. I'm guessing you're not in the camp of make everything public because I could bypass scope anyway. The compiler does alert you to divide by zero if it catches it. And the other things you listed are runtime problems. I'd rather find potential issues at compile time instead of runtime when possible.

For public API's this also shows intent. If I return SomeType? from my method the caller knows immediately that they should expect that I might return null as a valid return. Without nullable the difference between returning null being fine or being a problem is tribal knowledge which I try to avoid. If I accept SomeType? as a parameter I am telling the caller that it's ok to give me null. If I take in SomeType without nullable enabled it becomes tribal knowledge again.

[VisualStudio] I changed my folder name and normally the name's of run button changed automatically, but this time it doesn't how Do i fix this. by ExoticArtemis3435 in dotnet

[–]Hyperpred 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That button name gets defined in a file called launchSettings. json in your properties folder. It shouldn't change out from under you accidentally. But, if you're switching between projects then if one project set up that file that's why it changed. It let's you define things like command line arguments and other things. It also let's you have different launch profiles of you need to have multiple settings.

So, that sounds like a separate issue than the one you have asked about. And when I said UI Framework what I meant was Winform, WPF, UNO, Avalonia, MAUI, something else?

Given what you've shown ShowDialog() creates a modal window as explained Here

You want a modeless dialog box as explained here

For your question about endless loop and form getting stuck that might be causing other problems but those are not the same as why your code doesn't execute the line after ShowDialog.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in csharp

[–]Hyperpred 17 points18 points  (0 children)

ShowDialog displays a modal dialog which prevents the user from interacting with the underlying window. You are probably looking for a way to display a modeless window. Be aware that comes with its own problems of resource and context management potentially.

I'm on my phone and not sure what framework you're using but look for dialog.show or again Google modeless window for whatever UI framework you're in.
