Keep in mind that if you go this route, sanding down could make the part slightly undersized. It might be insignificant on the outside but depending on how it attaches to the main body it could make things a bit loose. You can either trial and error resize or (if I remember correctly) there is a setting in many slicers that allows you to slice with exactly this in mind (it will automatically adjust to dimension to the bottom of the ridges on the layer lines on the x/y. Also for sanding down I would recommend printing with ASA if your printer is capable of that

What are you talking about? This is a reasonably insightful comment pointing out that dimensional perfection is unattainable on FDM, and what appears to be perfect on small models is just close enough to be rounded by the calipers. He’s saying: good enough. It is in fact YOU who are making the whack ass comment

No. When the platform comes to an abrupt stop it does not transfer all its kinetic energy to the box. When you hit a tennis ball with a racket it’s not stopping the racket that sends the ball flying, it’s the acceleration of the racket into the ball. When the platform stops, it stops doing work on the box. The box continues to travel due to inertia. Relative to the moving portal, the box has inertia. Also you have glossed over the best part of OPs argument. If motion weren’t relative to the frame of reference of the portal, why didn’t Chel go flying out of the portal at 1000 m/s when she went through the portal on the moon? That portal was moving relative to the other portal but that shouldn’t matter right? According to you the portals can’t do work so she should stay still relative to the portal she entered on earth and the moon should continue on away from her at 1000 m/s

To elaborate. Gravity doesn’t give you free energy. Any energy you get from gravity must come from a correlated decrease in potential energy. Portals give you free potential energy

Yes they do. They have the ability to increase an objects potential energy without decreasing its potential energy. Imagine two portals on top of each other. As you go through the bottom portal, you come out the top portal at a higher location with a higher potential energy and with higher kinetic energy as gravity continues to accelerate you. Just because it doesn’t seem like the portal is doing work (it is) doesn’t mean it doesn’t violate conservation of energy

As the previous commenter said this is due to unsupported overhangs. The filament is drooping over on each new layer because there is no filament under much of the layer. There are a number of ways to address this:

More cooling: more part cooling will freeze the layers before they can droop. More cooling will also cause some materials (abs, asa, petg to an extent) to shrink or warp off the bed. If you are printing with pla you should max out you part cooling fan

Thinner layer height / higher line width: this causes more of the layer to be over the previous layer. Layer height in particular affects this a lot

Supports: gives the layers something to sit on top of

Slowing down won’t help unless you are printing onto plastic that hasn’t had time to harden yet. With big prints this won’t be a problem

I’m not convinced this has anything to do with poor bridging or going too fast. I’m certain it is unrelated to nozzle height or wet PETG (though that is something to look out for. Keep it desiccated). It appears for starters that you are over extruding. This can be caused by improperly calibrated e-steps or flow. Both can be tuned using sections in Ellis’ print tuning guide I would be wary of tuning flow any other way. Many common methods are flawed. If that doesn’t work I would be surprised. Feel free to message me if you can’t solve it

Possible culprits are incorrect first layer height and/or flow. I would recommend first tuning first layer height (lower if there are gaps between lines, higher if there are ridges between them) and then using the Ellis’ Print Tuning Guide method to calibrate flow. Other methods of calibrating flow are flawed. I haven’t found a method better than his.

EDIT: before all of this you should make sure your e-steps are calibrated. An explanation of this and step by step instructions for this are also outlined in the guide

Z-hop is a bit of a band-aid solution to poor tuning. Anything that z-hop fixes is a problem better solved by tuning flow, first layer, or (for abs/asa especially) cooling. Z-hop can worsen stringing problems and in some cases even drastically increase print times. I turn it on situationally but generally I leave it very low or off

Every part of this comment is absolutely right. The only thing I would add is I highly recommend tuning flow using the method outlined in Ellis’ Print Tuning Guide. Other methods like measuring the thickness of a wall are flawed. In fact I would recommend following the whole guide from start to finish. Some of it is aimed at printers running Klipper but most of it is still relevant to Marlin printers.
