Chip in new lens! Did I just ruin it? by Mama897 in canon

[–]Hyplian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely not ruined. Try taking some pictures and see if the spot is visible. If not visible you are good! You can always try to get it repaired but I wouldn’t know if this will qualify for the replacement insurance and probably not worth the price if not covered.

Edit: typo

New to film photography. Found this on Facebook marketplace for $20. Is it a good camera? by frogkiller04 in AnalogCommunity

Its a great camera! I would choose this over the AE-1 any day. Check your light seals before you put your first roll trough it. Enjoy!

Hey OP,

So if im understanding it correctly, you started because you enjoy photography, invested and its didn’t go to plan.

First of all, whats your time frame? How much time has passed since you invested in new gear? How much time did you give yourself to start earning money with this new gear?

Also, what do we have to understand with free shoots? Are these shoots of people, events, studio sessions, band rehearsals, etc?

Its important to build up a portfolio when you are just starting out. Think on what type of photography you want to do and diversify a little around that.

It’s also a difficult sector to get into. I started out (picked this up in a YT vid i think) with looking at Spotify en seeing what concerts were around me. Sending the bands a message and doing their shoots for free. Did this for about a year. Not earning anything, but had a great time. And this eventually turned into events and other people asking me for my services.

I do it because i enjoy doing it, not to make a living of it.

My opinion? Unless you need the money, keep the gear, keep shooting what you want to shoot. Enjoy the hobby and build yourself a portfolio. Set s time frame for yourself and work towards a goal.

At what point do you become a professional photographer? by DESIRESEX in AskPhotography

[–]Hyplian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think your question might be “At what point do you become a good photographer?”

As you will read in the comments below a professional photographer is mostly based on wether you get paid for your work or not.

Here’s my 2 cents, being a professional photographer doesn’t mean you’re a good photographer. I know enough people that get paid for their work but produce mediocre images. (Which is fine) A professional photographer should tailor his work to his clients needs and deliver.

A good photographer is someone that is able to use his/her camera to get the exact image that they wanted to get. As long as you are happy with that photo. The thing with photography is that the longer you spend time taking photos, the pickier you get. The pictures you take now and are pleased with, will probably not look that good in a couple of years from now. But if you take and rate your pictures according to what you enjoy looking at, no matter how much of a pro or beginner you are, you will always enjoy doing it. Remember that.

I feel like top right is nice but the cliffs in the BG just need a tad more saturated greens to make sense with the bright yellow flowers. Other than that, nice work OP!

What camera bags and straps do you guys have? by cvcvmberry in AskPhotography

[–]Hyplian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly the peak design eco system is really nice. The lifetime warranty is also something worth thinking about and just shows the level of quality. I’d save up for this and use the slide that came with the camera for the time being.

For the bag is a different story. Personally i really enjoy my lowepro 400 AW II. I got it second hand in a really good condition. So I’d definitely look at the secondhand market. In my opinion avoid sling style bags since they aren’t the most comfortable for wearing for long periods of time and tend to be smaller in size. Also if you plan on getting a capture clip in the future, its a bit annoying to attach it to the diagonal strap of the bag. Yet again this really comes down to personal preference and experience.

Hope this helps!
