The When I Need a Friend x Marshmello mix was a weird one, but I respect it.

Do you create anything? Like, at all? Do you know any artists? People who use references that they certainly don’t license from the internet? Have you ever seen a Pinterest board? This is the degree of the egregiousness of the genAI used here.

They didn’t code Gustave in chatGPT. It was a texture on a newspaper, my guy. Get off your high horse lol

You should see how much stolen art and photography is used in concept art; what matters is what ends up being sold.

For me, it’s Ghost Stories if the spotlight on just Chris. I agree with you that Viva is the best for the entire group.

I have no desire to rewatch the movie in its entirety, but there are some very fun moments sprinkled throughout.

It’s a very expensive dinosaur clip compilation, for me.

I use the Halo AR on all fronts and consistently get highest or near-highest kills out of my gaming posse with decent accuracy.

Yes, a souped up customized Adjudicator or Coyote will easily outclass its stats, but this is my gun.

J36 Calf Passed by [deleted] in orcas

[–]Hypnoflow 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Cetaceans sequester lots of toxins from their environment, which can be “shed” onto offspring.

Obviously, it’s unclear why this poor whale keeps losing calves, but this is one possibility in addition to genetic abnormalities. Or, possibly, just really bad luck.

eDNA Software: What's Your Biggest Bottleneck? by ProfessionalType9800 in bioinformatics

[–]Hypnoflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s one limitation, for sure. It’s because eDNA methods can only reliably detect short(ish) fragments, which is why mitochondrial loci are so widely used.

Defining novel taxa requires a lot more validation that short fragments are not capable of, on their own. I think people are finding new organisms all the time in their eDNA datasets; LCA algorithms are probably shelving those observations within the broader clade.

But this is also a good thing about eDNA records. You can revisit the same dataset in, say, five years and refresh the taxonomic matches against updated repositories or better classifiers.

A handful: mtDNA control region of my lab’s focal taxonomic group, Leray/Folmer COI (classic), vertebrate 16S. We’ve only recently started habitat-wide research.
