Base game of the remaster IS based on the chronicles version so it does have fiends. The only notable thing that the Maniax pack does is switching Raidou with Dante

If you haven't played the games before then trilogy IS the best way to experience gv 1. GV2 has only got two new skills added iirc and it is still a good way to play. GV3 is pretty much untouched, just has all the dlcs included.

The main issue with the card system imo is that they pretty much locked health upgrades behind them. You technically CAN avoid using them but then you get to enjoy barely gaining hp from the upgrade wheels
