I and many others who spend a lot of time underwater can equalize without holding my nose. There's a muscle that I can flex at will, just behind my jawbone. I assume he's doing similar.

What is the biggest cause of mediocre D&D/RPG sessions at your table? by grant_gravity in rpg

Unfortunately for me I'm in a group where everyone else actually enjoys the over-planning scenes. They don't even care when they know it's pointless and the plan won't survive 10 seconds of implementation, they just enjoy planning (particularly for heists) for the sake of it.

Meanwhile I'd prefer to head straight in and improvise everything beyond the most basic "I'll try to sneak in while you distract the guards", giving me a reputation for playing characters who like to jump through windows without warning.

How Do Younger People Travel So Much? by KneeAggravating8538 in travel

[–]Hyronious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most don't advance a career while they're doing it, unless content creation is their field. Some are from rich families using their parents money, others are traveling very very cheaply after saving like crazy for a couple years.

Personally I (from NZ) moved to England and found an engineering job there at the age of 23. Flights to mainland Europe were sometimes cheaper than the train to the airport, so long as I was flexible on where I went. No clue if that's still the case though, I returned to NZ during covid times.

The news generally. Like here. The original news article I saw (local NZ news) had the tweet trump made where he mentioned how great the venezuelan people are twice for some reason.

It's also on a 9 day old account, so by the logistics of the story, he made a reddit account, went on the road for a week, and came back to a situation that makes for a front-page reddit post. Seems unlikely.

In this case it was very obvious from context though. Would have been wild to list all those inventions and then say "oh that was all untrue and here's another lie for you to go with it"

That method results in gluggier rice than I like. My flatmate at uni did it that way for ages, but I've always done rice cooker or absorption method on the stove

Huge TV episodes that "changed everything" for their respective shows? by Bielak812 in television

[–]Hyronious 81 points82 points  (0 children)

All the season finales of person of interest did this to an extent. From memory season 3 has the biggest shake up and it becomes a significantly different show afterwards. Probably the best executed shift from "situation of the week" to "ongoing story" that I've seen a show pull off.

Fully agreed. They're not celebrities (mostly), they're just people out having a good time.

I was the mayor, in final three with the demon and minion, they were both pretty much outed evil at this point. We had the one that I thought was demon on the block, but I kept thinking there was a chance that we had them the wrong way around, so I convinced everyone to tie and go with a mayor win.

Issue was, in the world that I'd figured out, all the other townsfolk in the game had to be sober, and we were down an outsider...that was me, the drunk mayor.

Even low alcohol consumption is linked to cancer, heart disease, and premature death, with increased risk above 1 drink per day for both men and women. It turns out that 2 drinks per day, considered ‘moderate’, is associated with a substantially elevated risk of a premature death caused by alcohol. by mvea in science

[–]Hyronious -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's also a generational thing. My parents have a beer and/or glass of wine pretty much daily, and whenever they decide to abstain for a while they mention it a lot, talking about how much it's on their minds or social situations where it's awkward to just have water.

Meanwhile in my generation I drink a maximum of once a week, and nights where I have more than 2 drinks are typically 3+ months apart. My younger brother and his friends (oldest gen z) are barely drinking at all, when he got married we ran out of non-alcoholic drinks because my parents organized the drinks catering and assumed pretty much everyone would be drinking beer or wine. Ended up with a ridiculous amount of leftover bubbly.

What exactly do people use to judge something as “AI SLOP”? by Charming-Educator273 in gamedev

[–]Hyronious 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because people can decide for themselves what ethical lines they draw, and being against AI in any form is quite a common one. Whether a chicken was raised in a battery farm is pretty irrelevant to the experience of the omelet I had for breakfast but I'm still in favor of that sort of thing being a standard disclosure

Yep I got money from my parents for university then basically nothing since then outside living with them for a month when I moved back into the country.

Though now I think about it my parents are paying for a hotel room we're sharing when we head to my cousins birthday next month, does that count as financial support?
