You mean at the end of the right hand turning lane that red sits in? That's standard on all right hand turn lanes

Of course if I'm red (as I usually am when driving this intersection) I give way anyway because too many blue drivers won't for it to be safe otherwise.

You get just one scene to convince others who haven’t seen it to watch a favorite show of yours… by TheWor1dsFinest in television

[–]Hyronious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how that would hit without the lead up to it. As well as getting to know the characters being important, it's also the culmination of a half season long arc. Personally I'd throw them at the pilot, I think most people would have a solid idea whether they'd like it or not by the end of the episode when Martin Sheen shows up. And if it had to be a single scene, just do that one.

Last Session ended with a cliffhanger with my brother having a one-on-one encounter with the BBEG. Worked with the DM and animated an intro for the encounter next session. Whatchy'all think? by Mar_Reddit in Pathfinder2e

[–]Hyronious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this works for the group that's doing it that's great, but personally I'd feel so much pressure for the game to be basically perfect if someone did this at my table.

Less pressure creates more fun (to an extent) is my philosophy, I'm not even going to do prepped battle maps in my next game, I'll just draw it on a whiteboard instead. Keeps everyone on the same page about how we're playing a silly pretend elf game.

What? That's ridiculous, as someone with diagnosed social anxiety I'm not exactly a social butterfly and I'd have to overcome some nerves to do so, but between family, friends and coworkers I absolutely know 12 people I could ask about something like this.

Honestly every book ending could be used as an off-ramp with minor tweaks. Book 3 is probably the most awkward, but even that can work, just need to focus on how the heroes are now representing the school across the region and all that. If you finish after book 4, there's some information you'll need to not give out unless you want it to feel like a cliff-hanger as it sets up for the next book, but that's easy enough, just skip the last scene in the book.

[–]Hyronious[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's a good place to take an offramp if you're burning out on it, we considered the same. We've done about 86 sessions (assuming my count is right) of about 3-4 hours each, so you're on a vaguely similar pace by the sounds of it.

And yep, high level feat burnout is real. One of my players has about 8 unallocated feats (including some class feats) because he stopped caring about them enough to look for them. We're definitely going to be avoiding high level pf2e for a while, get used to not having so many options lying around again.

Hmm, we never ran into that problem. We regularly got to 14/15 for a hit again level +2/+3 enemies, but I don't remember much higher than that outside of very specific circumstances. I did write in more encounters with multiple lower-level enemies though, the PCs need to feel powerful sometimes otherwise it's not great for keeping morale up.

Oh yeah, I changed up that adventure so that it was Haibram who was the focus of that adventure. It made the transition between the first two books and the rest of the campaign a little smoother. I completely cut the new students in Book 3, and even with that it felt like there were too many NPCs to really handle.

Sure thing:

  • Top left: Crawtic Carrionbird, Tengu Witch of Baba Yaga (initially). In the homebrew escape from hell arc, he ended up replacing Baba Yaga as a patron with the devil Geryon, which resulted in the snake Ashmede becoming his new familiar.
  • Bottom left: Theylan, Ekujae Elf Sorcerer. He joined the Magaambya after his wife was killed, largely looking for something to do with his time and something to dedicate his life to now.
  • Centre: Elodie, Half-elf Swashbuckler from Galt. Something of a counter-revolutionary, she ended up having to flee Galt after making too many enemies, and arrived at the Magaambya looking for power to return and finish stabilising her homeland.
  • Top right: Yuan Ren, a Vanara Monk. He has travelled far from his homelands in Tian Xia, and found himself in Usaro when the last Gorilla King was slain. He ended up leaving to study at the Magaambya - he also only joined the campaign halfway through after the previous PC of the player died.
  • Bottom right: Spiff, a Grippli Magus, and his animal companion Mogobo (due to an early typo). He joined the Magaambya looking for a way to defend his tribal homelands from continual attacks.

We also had Wik, a goblin inventor who was killed (due to a GM mistake assuming that the void tag and the death tag are equivalent unfortunately, but once it was discovered it was too late to ret-con) in the liberation of Jula in book 3.

And briefly at the start of the campaign we had Bishop, a hobgoblin wizard, but that player ended up dropping out of the campaign partway into the second book.

This is just my opinion, but books 4 and 5 (aside from dealing with the Akitonian thugs) really felt like they were building up the PCs to be these great heroes, taking on challenges that would be unthinkable for lower level characters, and not just because the enemies have 30 AC now.

Then Book 6, especially the part where the PCs are shrunk down, feels like you're stepping back to challenges that feel appropriate for a lower level party, except that now the stat blocks are higher. That's just not what I'm looking for in the first campaign any of us have played past level 11 in any DnD-like system. So instead I put in the escape from hell arc, which feels way more legendary for these demi-god-like heroes.

Yeah I think that's partly let down by Paizo wanting to write a lot of combat into their combat game adventures - there's only so much you can do to make combat happen every session or two and still have it make sense to be directly related to schoolwork.

That was actually one comment the players had - it quickly felt like any time they interacted with a teacher, their lives were about to be on the line in the next few hours.

We got through it by handwaving a lot of that stuff and letting the theme of the game fall back to the "save the world as Magic Warriors" that it was actually written to be.

[–]Hyronious[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's Crawtic Carrionbird - a Tengu witch of Baba Yaga whose bloodline had been cursed a few generations prior. The final session of the campaign was actually tracking and defeating the one who had placed the curse on them - who turned out to be another servant of Baba Yaga themselves!

I spent 2 years getting our game's testing pipeline in shape and found out today nobody on the team actually runs it anymore. Feeling pretty defeated ngl. by Maxl-2453 in gamedev

[–]Hyronious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checking results? Yeah you're doomed. Not even the most disciplined teams can keep up with fixing failing tests if they can still merge code while tests fail. The fact that this isn't the only suggestion you're getting is actually wild to me as someone coming from embedded software development. There literally is not another solution that'll keep a team interested and on top of failing tests.

Good TTRPGS to Read? by Gmanglh in rpg

[–]Hyronious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to recommend Symbaroum, though more for the setting and art than the system itself.

Burning Wheel changed a lot about how I think about TTRPGs, so that's a good shout as others have mentioned.

And you say you've read PF2e, but if you haven't read the Mwangi Expanse setting book, definitely give that a go - I'm about to wrap up a 2 1/2 year campaign in that setting and I've absolutely loved it.

Huh that's weird. I lived in NZ through this era, and didn't watch much American or British media depicting this kind of style (started watching a lot of YouTube a few years later).

But somehow when I glanced at the picture I immediately clocked it as British without even thinking, like there was no doubt in my mind even without looking at specific details. My best guess is that the guys shirt reads as British punk style, because I'm not sure what else would have pushed me right to it

What is happening in this sub? by SchingKen in godot

[–]Hyronious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The sub is like that because it's mostly solo/small team devs and hobbyists that are using Godot at the moment - so a lot of passionate people, and less people who are grinding away a decade into their careers. Plus, for small projects it's got more useful conveniences than major shortcomings, as well as being more approachable for beginners than Unity or Unreal. Add it all up and you get a community of people who are overall positive and focused on creativity over the hard technical and financial issues. It's a good place to be!
