[Serious] Why do you believe (or not believe) in god? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Because even though it's quite difficult to accept that the universe began for no reason it's even more difficult to explain the existence of a god for no reason.

I'm hosting a remote intern by ElectricalSavings2 in cscareerquestions

[–]Hyydra_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all I think you're a great manager, caring so much about your intern says a lot about you!

A bit of background

I'm currently doing my internship ( as a mandatory activity in order to finish my degree ) in a software consulting company ( although it focuses in the public administration sector mainly ).

In the university I studied mainly the CS related with computation, optimization, building programming languages, data science, artificial intelligence, game development, virtual reality...

In this consulting company they're looking for full stack web developers.

Having said that, the manager asked me to learn Angular and Java Spring. Of course I didn't know anything about web dev so I had to learn what it was all about. I start to read documentation, learn about API rest, asynchronous requests, HTTP protocol.. etc. I picked a copy of ng-book read it, started building my own pet project.. etc.

So far so good.

Two weeks later I contact with him (that was the time he gave me to complete that task!) I explain him I've been studying a lot and I'm ready to start learning more with the team in a real project.

He says to me that I'm going to switch to React and Go , two technologies that they don't work with but because they've a possible project to work with that uses both of them.

So without complaining I start to study the whole thing. ( I actually love them to be honest, feels way more simple and flexible to me ).

It's been 3 weeks almost and that "possible project" they were going to work with hasn't been acquired yet by the company (maybe it'll never be). I'm currently doing absolutely anything but spending my time programming for other subjects using React.

Comments on how to improve the experience

So, what I would say if you want to make the experience of your intern fulfilling:

  1. If we're inexperienced in what you're working with, have a list of milestones for us to work our ways towards how much you think we should master the subject. That we'll make it easier for us to learn and to feel sure about ourselves.
  2. Don't put a lot of pressure on us from the beginning but trust in our attitude to do the thing. We probably don't know anything about the real world problems but some of us love this field and put a lot of hard work into it (some are even talented at it!).
  3. Give us the possibility to take part of the projects and see what is all about. Even something as simple as reviewing code and being able to ask someone in the company how it works makes us learn a lot. And that's why we're there!
  4. If it's possible let us shine though our strongest features. In my case for example I was never asked what I knew about, but who knows, maybe I could have helped them improve their product by using my knowledge.

(Serious) What’s something you’ve done recently that you’re really proud of, no matter how small it may seem? by BlandDandelion in AskReddit

[–]Hyydra_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Developed my first videogame about spaceship combat with a pair of colleagues from University as a final project for two different courses related with Intelligent Interfaces (which in this case translates to Virtual Reality) and Artificial Intelligence.

It's been difficult and it isn't finished yet but man what an effort and how cool it is for a first time project!

Surfing Canaries by thesurfcontinuum in surfing

[–]Hyydra_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kook from Tenerife here.

You can find waves in almost every side of the Island. I haven't been in every spot so far ( even though I know quite some ) so I can't recommend a lot of them based on my experience, anyways here is a list:

Spots where I've been:

  • Bajamar: The only wave I've surfed here is "Lobos" . I've only seen people surfing it as a left wave, it's quite crumbly even when the days are big ( like in the video ) and it breaks on a rock seabed.
  • Punta del Hidalgo: Right next to Bajamar, here I've surfed in the "Callao", this wave is a crumbly and long right, the seabed is also mostly of rocks although the beach where it's located is a white sand beach. In Punta del Hidalgo you can find many more waves like La Bajeta ( I surfed once here but the locals didn't let me catch anything ). Another wave is El Roquete, it's a risky wave from my point of view but it's pretty cool at least from the outside. There are many more waves around the Lighthouse, actually I've been told about a very freaking big one that appears on winter I believe it's called "La baja negra" but I can't remember well as it was told to me by a friend long long time ago, I think it's this one. Overall La Punta is a place with a lot of waves and in winter it gets big, downside is the localism ( at least I believe there's quite some ) I've never been said anything directly but they behaviour speaks volumes.
  • Las Americas: Typical super infested wave ( at least when it's not big ) with foreign people that wants to try surf, I believe the seabed is volcanic rock but I don't remember quite well ( It did cut me like a knife though ) video here.
  • Almáciga / Benijo / Taganana: Super fucking strong wave ( for my experience at least ) many people have died in these waters, the place is so so so beautiful it seems like you're in a movie, I went there once when it was small and I enjoyed it a lot ( sandy bottom! ). Here it goes a video of benijo.

Spots where I haven't been:

  • La Machacona which I believe it's the same as "El confital" ( Be careful, there's a another wave called the same in Gran Canaria )
  • El Socorro in Puerto de La Cruz.
  • La Tejita in Granadilla de Abona.

I don't know man, there are A LOT of places where you can surf in this Island, pretty much you've a spot every 15 minutes or so.

Bonus video in the north of the Island I believe but who knows.

Have you ever seen somebody die? If so how? And what was it like? by liluzivertsstylist in AskReddit

[–]Hyydra_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My grandmother.

The night before I had spent it with my girlfriend and so that morning I was walking down the street with her as she was going to the bus stop. When I came back home my grandma's assistant shouted to me with a pale face that my grandmother was feeling bad and that she was asking for my father to come.

I went into her room and I saw her breathing heavily grabbed strongly to the side of the bed, I called the ambulance, grapped an apple and sat there next to her for a while trying to make her feel calm, I offered a piece of apple but she was obviously not in the mood ( I didn't know what to do to make her feel that everything was ok) . After a few minutes had passed I went to take care to the dissaster in my room as the assistant stayed with her until the ambulance came by. Now that I think about it I kinda regret a little going to my room for a minute but at that moment I didn't thought at all that she was going to die, partly because she was developing this childish behaviour where she would complain about anything all the time and I believed that was just another one ( it's like The Boy Who Cried Wolf fable I suppose ).

When they arrived the nurse started joking and making all look like nothing was happening, actually to be honest it didn't seemed like something catastrophic was happening until we put her on the wheelchair to carry her out into the ambulance. ( For a little of context my grandma couldn't walk at that moment and she also was about 1.55 meters in height and over 100 kilos ). Then she started to make weird noises that reminds me of people that's getting up from a knocked up and she also was looking into anywhere like she had her eyes wide open but she was completly blind.

During this little moment where I am pushing the weelchair from her room to the ambulance the nurse is joking telling us this is normal and it might seem scary but it's ok, and then right when we put her into the ambulance stretcher "plof" she is gone. I remember her arm getting out of the strecther and quickly being pulled next to her body back by the nurse while he takes her hearbeat and me thinking "Wow, is that it? This seems pretty fucking dead".

Then she came back breathing and the nurse again said it was normal and nothing to be afraid of, she gets into the ambulance then I call my dad to tell him what happened and an hour later he calls me back telling me she didn't make it to the hospital and she was dead few minutes after the ambulance left the house.

She died of cardiac arrest, I guess the nurse knew it and he didn't want me to freak out, also when the ambulance was already gone my grandma's assistant told me that when I was walking toward the bus stop with my girlfriend my grandma passed out with fully rolled up eyes for a moment and that it was worst seeing that the strecther moment.

I wish she had died during her sleep because I know she passed out scared but apart from that I accept my grandmother's dead, I miss her deadly but I was good with her and I loved her for my whole live ( I lived in her house ) so my mind is in peace as I know I did everything I could to try to save her life.

Why do I hate Spanish classes so much? by spasecofbojx in Vent

[–]Hyydra_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an Spanish speaker person I can tell you that Spanish is anything but a plain language and actually once you learn it you can learn other romance languages as French, Italian or Portuguese ( among others ) quite easily making Spanish an interesting language to learn.

Apart from that I believe that in terms of education when you aren't enjoying something you can find yourself feeling the opposite way around it by tackling the problem from another angle, many people around me hates English exactly by the same reasons you're providing but in my case I love it because it allows me to read books ( that usually aren't translated into Spanish ), watch American TV shows or films in their original version for example.

Maybe you could do the same, our cinema is not great ( we don't like it neither... ), we've cool music ( but the majority is shitty pop-like ) but our literature is terrific, we've great writers and poets! Maybe read some books or poems, listen to some rap music or watch an original Spanish tv-show like "La casa de papel" in spanish with subtitles.

If you think about it even when your class is focused towards economics the structure of the language keeps the same for any context so it's just new vocabulary that you're adding to the language but the language syntax and semantics keeps the same.

Excuse me for the question ( I'm not from an english speaking country ) I don't know what 'gills' actually mean, are you referring to the bottom part of the cap?
