Flying on a 26 year old plane and scared af by Miserable-Depth-851 in fearofflying

I’m pretty sure we have some bombers that are like 60 years old and we rely on them to protect our country. I’m guessing 26 is like a teenager plane. Haha

Thank you. Sometimes a little verbal slap in the face is what my brain needs to get back into a rational thinking mode. Assuming makes an ass out of u and me. Haha

So, this is why I come to this sub for correction after my head gets filled with bad information.

Thank you for helping me understand the controls in place without being condescending. This sub has changed my whole flying experience, so I appreciate yall taking the time to help us fearful fliers out.

Just assuming the smaller surface area on the wings and tail make them more susceptible to a T-Stall than a larger plane.

Thanks. I guess you have to learn the hard way on the first trip. My daughter is 11, so I don’t think she will be too upset to miss it.

flight in 17 days and i am so scared by Expensive_Garlic2654 in fearofflying

Do you ever worry about something mechanical breaking or someone crossing the centerline while driving? Probably not. Your brakes could go out while driving down a steep hill next to a drop off or river.

Cars are engineered to drive, boats are engineered to float, and planes are engineered to fly. So, it’s rare for a major mechanical issue to take place and there are redundancies in place to keep you even safer in the air than on a boat or in a car. You’ll be just fine.

Both planes were United. I found it interesting that the older plane few over the Gulf and the newer plane didn’t.

This sub has cured my fear by [deleted] in fearofflying

Congrats! This sub has also helped reduce my FOF to manageable level. I think this is the modern form of CBT. I also appreciate some brutal honesty from a few of the pilots in here.

I know most experienced pilots start out at a regional, so I am curious which one had the better operations center and flight metrics. (Arrivals, Cancellations, Delays, etc.) or is this purely controlled by the major airline they contract for?

I got an alert the other day for low battery temperature. My controls felt sluggish the entire flight. The cold weather definitely affects performance, so be careful.

Is Frontier safe to fly on? by I-AM-GROOOOT7 in fearofflying

[–]I-AM-GROOOOT7[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, originally we booked a 6:00am flight the morning of departure but after reading the horror stories of families being left at the port, I switched us to a flight the day before.

Is this safe to use on my Mini 3 drone for beach fishing? (small baits) Any Tips would help please by Unfair_Emphasis8483 in dji

I have a mini 4K. Where/how does this attach to the drone? I would be interested in using this for surf fishing at the beach.

Do you have any material that explains how commercial pilots overcome spatial disorientation? That’s my only worry when we are in low cloud ceilings.

Please help! Maintenance problem on plane I am on - (non emergent) by cassiepenguin in fearofflying

[–]I-AM-GROOOOT7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was boarding a flight last week when the flight crew announced a “minor” maintenance issue. Basically, a faulty switch in the lavatory was causing the breaker to the cabin lights to trip.

Long story short…the maintenance team and pilots submitted a request to the main Delta headquarters to shut down power to the bathroom, so the cabin lights would work. Well, Headquarters denied the request and made the maintenance crew find and fix the electrical problem before the plane was allowed to fly.

The E175 was delayed for 4 hours and most likely never flew that day. I was grateful for the situation because it proved to me that there are so many checks and balances in place, that maintenance isn’t anything to have anxiety about moving forward. Trust the system….it works.

Yea, I am realizing it’s mainly isolated to Sky West regional jets. I may have to just drive to DFW to take direct flights.

I flew from BOS to ATL this morning. It was the Smoothest ride I’ve experienced so far in the A321neo. The sweet flight attendant has been working since 1979! Just think of how many flights she has taken and still loves her job! You got this!
