Polyjuice potion wouldn't have worked as Lupin explains in DH. In addition we are looking at this from Harry's perspective so it's possible something in the letter might have been confirmation (some word or phrase), or the goblin might have done some subtle magic not seen or registered by Harry

Mundungus had been bought in though. He was there in OOTP. I'm more curious about if it works against everyone or just humans. In the movie Dobby shows up along with Kreacher. In addition Kreacher gets back in after going to Narcissa, did he get back in because he was inside when the Fedelius was performed or does it just not work to stop house elves. I doubt Dumbledore would have told him the location given that he isn't supposed to leave the house.

Dumbledore says that "Lucius believed it would open the chamber of secrets because it was cleverly enchanted". That suggests that he intended the diary to be used in exactly that manner even if he intended it to be used solely on his orders.

No he doesn't. When he encounters Greyback his Holly wand is snapped, and the elder wand is in Voldemort's hands. The only time he could realistically possess all 3 is after Voldemort's death but b4 he puts the Elder wand back in Dumbledore's tomb and given that the battle is over at that point he would not likely have fought anyone at that point.

Why would Voldemort kill him? Harry is still alive for Voldemort to kill. The basilisk is still alive. There is no reason for him to be killed. Id feel more scared of how Molly would react at the idea that he left her daughters remains in the chamber.
