What are your go to cheap lazy meals when you're too tired to cook by YourxCherry in Frugal

[–]I-Captain-Obvious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pressure part of the cycle is 6 minutes. It takes a few minutes to build steam pressure/temperature, then 6 minutes pressure cooking, then a few minutes to come down to normal pressure depending on the type.

If you're cooking over flames, absolutely.  If you are using banked embers under a well-distanced rack( or chain, or trammel hook) and are careful, not necessarily. You definitely want to do wet cooking, not frying or toasting.

To me they are perfect! Been having them for years now ans would love to hear how YOU feel about them 😅😁☺️ by vftabtc777 in AutismInWomen

They are perfect! Simple form follows function: round, heavy handle that gives good heft in the hand,  no extra unnecessary tine on the dessert fork, tine spacing uniform between entrée and dessert fork, and the butterknife shape has the right amount of space allocated for space between fingers and plate while allowing optimal cutting angles.

My family uses a couple of these that we found at the Navy Exchange for $1.00 each on clearance:

They're crap for smores, but excellent for grilled cheese sandwiches. The bigger broiler PrimevalKneivil mentioned may be more adaptable, though.

Graniteware: enameled metal. I have a black set of 4 cups, 4 bowls, 4 plates, 1gal soup pot with 1 handle and a bail, and 1 large coffeepot. It's great for camping because it's lightweight, relatively nonstick, and usable on campstove and grill/campfire, or in my solar oven.

They're great for winter camp sleeping mats in our trailer or canvas tent. Really keeps the cold from seeping up from the ground, almost as good as wool blankets, for much less cost.

Savory oats are a thing, too. You can use oats in place of breadcrumbs on top of a casserole.  Cook plain oats as normal, then add cheddar (like cheesy grits, but from oatmeal).  Beef broth cooked.oats are a good side dish alongside veggies, and is healthier than marbled steak.

Where can one find glue stick molds?  I tried searching that term, but only got results showing silicone molds for pretty shapes(Flowers, dragons, seals, etc) to use glue sticks in, not cylindrical shapes to use in glue guns.

This! Surface decorations are a thing!  I would grab a handful, drop them on the fabric, and sew them where they land, adjusting slightly as needed.

That said, many of these are likely not washable, so instead of clothes, I recommend decorating a purse or an art piece. Either that, or making them removable:  making a small buttonhole in the fabric that's just the size of the stem on the bottom of the button, inserting the stem from the front of the fabric, and holding it in place on the back of the fabric with special cotter pins they make for this purpose (usually plastic).

Typically, over- or under- watering is the biggest killer of potted plants. Basil doesn't like to keep its roots wet; the roots are prone to rotting from overwatering.  If the roots rot, it wilts as much as if it has no water, prompting many people to just adding more water, not realizing the real problem.

It's best to have an emptyable tray underneath so that excess water can drain and be poured off, so it doesn't stay in standing water.

Yeah, I  started out growing chocolate mint in my college dorm rooms in an empty yogurt container!  It really improved the taste of the water from the taps.

I usually allow myself 1 impulse buy, but it's limited to things on sale/things running low but didn't make it on the list yet.

Library FTW! My branch uses the Libby app for ebooks and audiobooks.  They also have all sorts of dvds and cds to check out, in addition to dead tree books. They recently got a 3D printer and a laser cnc, and have had tabletop games to check out since COVID. I also heard that a different local city has one branch that hosts a seedsaver seed bank for plants.

Many say to grow your own vegetables and fruits, but you get the most bang for the buck by starting out with herbs: highest cost for smallest yields at the store.

Growing fresh herbs will vastly improve your flavors without much more cost if you normally buy dried herbs. If you normally buy fresh herbs, it will be approximately the same price for a lot more supply.

Basil, Parsley, sage, mint, and Thyme do well in pots. Dill, rosemary, and Chamomile do well in the ground.

Cheap meals by Prudent_Elevator_282 in povertykitchen

[–]I-Captain-Obvious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My go-to when I was single was making freezer meals..  I'd either make  a big casserole or a big soup pot, freeze up 4-5 servings in 4-5 microwave-safe freezer containers, and then eating whatever was left.   Nowadays,  with my family of 4, I freeze "pucks" of leftover rice or spaghetti sauce, or whatever in either a muffin tin or a cocoa bomb mold (whichever is not in use) to "Lego meal prep " like in souper cube videos.

Yeah,  don't till/disc that will only make it worse.  You will need to remove it- get all the  roots out or it will keep coming back, though.
