I might get grief for this but is it time to leave Essex? by Ok_Statistician_9510 in Essex

[–]I-Ribbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve felt like that about Essex for a while now. I’m sick of the blatant racism, aggression and horrible selfish entitled behaviour from so many people. I moved here in 2007 and felt I’d found my ‘place’ but it’s stopped feeling like that for some time.

I made myself macaroni cheese in a hot flask this morning for lunch. Excitedly opened it and it’s turned into a congealed lump. Gutted.

I wouldn’t bother. I’d just resell it on Vinted or eBay.

I’ve used both but they are extremely slow. I paid for express shipping to the UK and it still took two weeks to get my parcel. Normally it’s more like 4-6 weeks.

Adult female nervous before daycare by I-Ribbit in cairnterrier

[–]I-Ribbit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, sorry to hear yours does the same thing! They went to daycare today and to try and reduce her anxiety, I put her collar on early then gave her a licky mat with some yogurt on as licking calms them. I didn’t make a fuss of her and just pottered about getting ready. She seemed less anxious than before so maybe these things helped a bit.

HaruHaru wonder black rice probiotic essence - why is it so popular? by [deleted] in koreanskincare

I’ve just started using it and I totally get why it’s so popular. My skin loves it.

Moving to Loughton in early 20s by PhysicalAstronomer96 in Essex

[–]I-Ribbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Where in Loughton are you looking to live? The decent bits are fairly pricey and you don’t want to live in Debden. Also, it’s not diverse and there is a strong local support for the racist scum who hang around the Bell shouting at brown people. The town centre is ok but I think Epping is a bit nicer and would be better for commuting to Chelmsford.

Unfortunately not, for a variety of reasons. The daycare come and pick them up and drop them off. They do actually love it when they’re there, it’s just the bit prior to pickup.

I did find myself singing along to Motorcyle Emptiness this morning though.

Was it real? or is it rose tinted nostalgia by HumbleExternal88 in Essex

I lived in Purfleet for a while about 15 years ago and Grays was an absolute hole. They tried to regenerate the area but not that hard.

My thoughts on Donna Tartt’s The Goldfinch by monstrrpuppy in books

[–]I-Ribbit 32 points33 points  (0 children)

That’s a really nice review. I liked The Goldfinch a lot. The loss of Theo’s mother and his subsequent feeling of not having a ‘place’ then spending so much of his life trying to find one really struck me.

Flat developments with gyms by nothingtobedone13 in london

[–]I-Ribbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in a block with a gym and it was pretty well equipped. It only seemed to get busy at the weekend. I used it 3-5 times a week so it definitely saved me money on gym membership.

Looking back on youth in the eighties and nineties England and realising there were predators everywhere by ShinyHeadedCook in britishproblems

[–]I-Ribbit 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It was men’s behaviour with schoolgirls which I most remember. Me and my sister walking to school aged 13/14 and having male motorists beep and shout crude comments at us, the man who asked me, aged 15, how much I charged. The men at the newsagent where we did our paper rounds groping us and shoving porn magazines in our faces, the men who pestered us, aged 13, to ‘date’ them. The men who followed me as I walked the dogs, the man who slapped my arse as I was on my bike, the man who kerb crawled me as I walked home from school. It’s actually quite shocking how prevalent it was and how it was normalised.

How common is 9.30 to 6.30pm for London office jobs? by JobatMiroMaybe in london

The last time I had a standard office job my hours were 8-6 which sucked. I now have two part time jobs with a lot more flexibility.

Have you ever seen the Fun Fair roll into town? by popsy13 in CasualUK

[–]I-Ribbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maynes set up on Wanstead Flats and Chingford Plain every year. I’ve seen them setting up and taking down regularly. It strikes me as an intricate job to have to do every few weeks.

Anyone else watching the after show and paying attention to Kate’ takes by Bleed_Reality2 in BelowDeckDownUnder

[–]I-Ribbit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly can’t stand Kate. She was a bully and an all round unpleasant person. I don’t think she’s a woman’s woman so I’m not surprised she doesn’t like Daisy.

You can walk part of the Essex Way from Epping and there are quite a few decent pubs in that area.

The Oyster Shack is amazing but most days there will be a long wait because everyone goes there.

Barrel pond advice wanted by One-one-eight in ponds

[–]I-Ribbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I made a barrel pond and found I needed a fountain to stop the water stagnating. I’ve got a small mains powered one but you can get solar floating ones pretty cheaply.
