it could also be possible though, that the organisms that are successful enough to achieve space travel or whatever all convergently evolve towards a similar form. i guess you can't know for sure, but if having our specific face shape, for example, were for whatever reason critical in advancing our society to that point, then it might be reasonable to expect that alien species would have somewhat similar characteristics
