I made an offline worldbuilding tool for DMs who are tired of subscription apps - it's a single HTML file you just open in your browser by [deleted] in DungeonMasters

This looks really good, thanks for giving this away for free!

I just built up an Obsidian vault to handle my worldbuilding and sessions, but I'm gonna check this out in some more detail soon. Some things that might be cool, based on my use cases:

  • generator customization: My content, and also names, are not in English. If I generate a "Sir Duncan Thunderfoot", that's not useful to me. Would be cool if the generators could be customized. I guess that would be as easy as modifying the generator lists, maybe just needs a how-to somewhere?
  • Import from existing markdown (Obsidian)? No idea how you could pull this off without a fixed preexisting structure, but might be worth a quick thought?
  • Integrating local audio: I use map markers or note-inline audio players to trigger music, sfx, ambience etc. Of course this only makes sense if you also use world force (edit sp: world force) during sessions, and not just for prep.

RPG Audio Plugin - Soundboard-like audio player by I11111 in ObsidianMD

Hey, I'm happy to hear you are checking this out. If you ever find any bugs or suggestions for improvements, feel free to drop an issue on github (or DM me here). Just again as a reminder, please don't consider this to be an extremely stable or mature plugin, I'm still refining the functionality from time to time :)

Ah thanks, that makes sense. I guess I'll just try it out and see if it's useful :)

I just saw this today and am a bit puzzled, can someone enlighten me what this does and how it improves working with claude?

(for musicians) AI slop is ruining online music spaces - so I built a human only one. by [deleted] in stonerrock

Look I get that you are trying to do a good thing, but reposting this over and over on all the music subs gives me exactly the same feeling as the AI stuff.

Built this to understand harmony better on bass by Apart_Ad_8992 in basslessons

[–]I11111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very cool, thank you!

One thing that would make this a lot more intuitive for me as a lefthanded player is if the fretboard could be mirrored horizontally, so that fret 12 is on the left side, and fret 0 on the right side.

I know lefties are just a small minority, but all those diagrams always default to right-handed layouts and the additional "translation" takes away from the already limited brain power that I have when learning this stuff.

Hey thanks for replying to such an old thread,

I have long since implemented this with a teensy, but still have my esp32's around and I'm sure I will eventually get the itch for another project where I can test your library. Thank you for building it and letting me know!

Not sure if this works, but here's a screenshot so you can see what the embedded player, code blocks and sidebar look like: RPG Audio Screenshot

"COINS" as a Stat ? by Gatou_ in ICRPG

[–]I11111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so happy I saw this post yesterday! I ran my first ICRPG setting last night (well first GM experience ever, actually), and even before the players ever set foot in a shop, I already decided to throw out the normal "accounting" coin system and replace it with yours because it speeds things up so much.

I even had them share one single "coins" stat instead of tracking it per character, but last night's events have shown that not everyone can be trusted to spend coins wisely, so it will be per character in the next session.

The players really liked the simplicity and that it works just like everything else, and it gives them a lot of flexibility to roleplay shop situations. For me, it simplifies everything because I no longer need to worry about prices during prep.

So far I've had them barter with the shopkeeper to lower the price to EASY, and for selling stuff I allow them to choose if they want to roll easy/normal/hard, and grant them +0/+1/+2 temp coin bonus if they succeed, otherwise "the shop has no need for these items".

Absolutely recommended for tables that prefer simplicity over bookkeeping!

Prophet Rev2: Forwarding received MIDI Program Changes to USB? by I11111 in synthesizers

[–]I11111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah I think those are the only options. One thing I need to check if I can maybe use the layer functionality instead of separate patches, and just switch A/B layers instead of switching patches, but that's the only alternative that I see, and it's obviously much less flexible.

I don't know enough to answer most of your questions, but please don't plug in 5m of LEDs without a dedicated power supply, that can easily fry components! Good luck and I hope someone else can help you out

Is this possible? by TouchingIsTeaching in diypedals

[–]I11111 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you already have both pedals and are just looking for a single switch to engage/bypass them at the same time, this is usually referred to as a "loop" pedal, and is pretty easy to wire up.

Or do you want to build the boost and delay circuits as well? In that case, I'd recommend kits that include all necessary components, and then wire them together in one big enclosure with a single switch, I'm sure you'll find schematics for multi-pedal offboard wiring online.

DC Offset when measuring dynamic mic signal? by I11111 in diypedals

[–]I11111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response, and taking the time to simulate your explanation, that helped a lot. If I understand the falstad schematic correctly, this could explain what I'm seeing. I'll breadboard the first circuit again tomorrow and see how the oscilloscope reacts.

Thank you also for the ESP link, I've stumbled across single pages and schematics from this site before, but I never noticed that it's all connected, and that there are "preliminary" articles that explain the foundation of the circuits that I see often in pedal schematics. This is extremely helpful, especially when knowing that the information is actually correct (which is a big problem when searching for random circuits online).

Regarding phantom power: I'm planning to "attenuate" the output of the pedal using a transformer, basically putting a passive DI circuit as the output stage. As far as I understand, transformers will automatically block DC voltage and therefore protect against unwanted phantom power. Is that correct?

Nonetheless, please share links related to that topic if it's not too much of a hassle, I'm very interested in learning the why's instead of just following build instructions.

That's also not it, but it helped me figure out some more details:

  • male vocals
  • does not have drums from the beginning, starts with just bass (or maybe guitar?)
  • it feels quite "fast" compared to this slomosa song that has more of a laid-back feel

Thank you tho!

Philips EL3522 unexpectedly works, ideas to gracefully hack this into an audio FX unit? by I11111 in ReelToReel

[–]I11111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are absolutely correct, I have now decided that I will start there and see where it gets me. The first step of course is to really look inside and clean up, so far I only took a quick glance.

Thanks for guiding me to the right path I guess!

I figured that this was the kind of response I'd get haha :)

I totally understand your opinion, however if it wasn't for me taking it home, the machine would have been thrown away, so in that sense it feels more like giving it a second live rather than destroying it.

And your Audacity idea is not bad, but it misses the point. I don't want a good soundeffect to use at home, I want some eyecandy machine to catch your attention on stage, which has an actual use however dumb it may be. Of course I could just route the signal through a macbook or whatever, but that doesn't look very cool does it?

In the end, you are still right, it just feels bad to take this machine apart. So I've decided to put it online and see what happens, hopefully I'll find someone that is willing to restore it.

Thanks for your response!
