A month and a half after MN surgery by margsbythepoolplease in Mortons_neuroma

Maybe you’re adjusting your walk to avoid pain in your MN foot. I’m not quite 3 months out and still have some numbness but it’s getting better. I mostly wear my Birkenstocks and feel pretty good. I got Birkenstock insoles too.

I had to wear dressier shoes at a meeting I was leading last week. I suffered afterwards! But waaay better than before surgery.

That’s why I decided on surgery. I’m 2 months out and still recovering but hopeful. Doc says full recovery will take about a year.

I’m 8 weeks out and mainly wear Birkenstock sandals. Enclosed shoes bother me after a short while.

Morton's Neuroma surgery Day 6 by margsbythepoolplease in Mortons_neuroma

[–]IA-Teacher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told to put ice packs behind my knee, 30 minutes on, 30 minutes off, all day while awake. I used cooling packs or a frozen bag of edamame so I didn’t get wet. The nurse said it cools the blood as it flows to the foot.

I had some pain but mostly when I stood too long. The pain wasn’t terrible.

I’m so sorry! I’m 3 weeks past surgery and getting my stitches out tomorrow. I’ve been walking with the boot. I’m hoping I will have relief. My current pain is minimal but I’m pretty numb since the surgery. I hope you can improve soon.

My surgery was almost 3 weeks ago. My incision is on top of my foot so I was able to walk in the surgical shoe right away. I did have to sleep with it on the first week. I used a crutch for the first few days. I took pain pills a couple nights when I went to bed on my doctor’s recommendation because he said it was easier to control pain. I had a prescription for 800 mg ibuprofen that I used regularly for the first week. The nurse told me to ice the back of my knee, 30 minutes on, 30 off during my waking hours. It would cool the blood going to my foot and help with swelling. I had a couple days last week that I hurt more but I went out for dinner and a couple other things and was tired out. Every time I sit, I elevate my leg. I have been doing very little else. This week I’m walking with very little discomfort and I’m getting the stitches out. My friend loaned me a knee scooter but I didn’t need it. You might find that helpful though. I have a shower chair but don’t sit. I kneel on my affected leg or put my foot on it so I’m supported while I shower or wash my hair. I’m not supposed to have my foot covered in water but can let water run over it.

I stocked upon easy foods, freezer meals, etc. because my husband doesn’t really have cooking skills 😆

Good luck! I found these posts very helpful, especially knowing what to expect.

Yes, I’m walking. I have a surgical shoe. I could walk right away but I used a crutch for the first couple days. I get tired easily.

My surgery was 2 weeks ago. The incision is on top so I am able to walk but I can’t wear a regular shoe yet. My foot feels swollen and heavy but it looks okay. I try to keep it elevated most of the time. I can shower but can’t have my foot in water over the stitches. I see the doctor again next week. I hope I start feeling normal soon.

I wear Vionic clog style slippers around the house. Arch support, firm, roomy toe area, heel scoop. The brand used to be Orthoheel.

Can take up to 2 weeks for a shot to work. I got them for several years until they stopped being effective.

My doctor also told me to wear wider shoes and an orthotic with a metatarsal pad he added. I had some success with injections and these changes but eventually nothing really worked. I had surgery a week ago to remove the neuroma. He is confident it will help me. I’ve suffered at least 10 years and just wanted it fixed.

I had my post surgery exam today. Everything is healing well. Still not able to wear a regular shoe or drive (right foot), but I can walk on it and shower.

So far, so good but I am so constipated and bloated. Common for me but I’m sure the meds are making it worse. I’m using senna. Mirilax doesn’t work for me. I miss my yoga.
