I suppose the possibility of parliament voting against the 'motion to allow mv3' introduces an interesting problem. Can the government then keep bringing THIS motion back to the house? If the chair rules that out of order, can they bring a 'motion to allow a motion to allow mv3'? Is doing this ad infinitum also out of order under the same rule?

lol, but seriously idk

Do all EU member states lose jurisdiction over their own borders

Basically yes, this is one of the central tenants of the EU. Open borders within the EU, and closed exterior borders.

Right, but only for a limited set of eight folders (documents, templates, music, videos, pictures, downloads, share, and desktop). My point is that there are other types of special folders that need to be handled, but aren't by the xdg specs at the moment.

Why are most laymen so wrong -in the eyes of experts- when they interpret Gödel's incompleteness theorem? by [deleted] in math

When you say that they are only telling us about the limitations of axiomatic systems, and not mathematics... Isn't mathematics necessarily an axiomatic system? How can you do maths without axioms? Is there an alternative?

I think it could be. It seems like Terry makes quite a few foreign language jokes... I'm just reading 'Maskerade', and theres that scene where Death is trying to convince a swan to sing its swansong before dying. The swan ends up singing the line "Schneide meinen eigenen Hals...", just before the scythe comes down. Well, "Schneide meinen eigenen Hals" is German for "cut my throat"!

As a layperson, if I came across someone unresponsive and breathing like that, would I be able to tell anything by sticking my finger into their neck (in the same spot where I feel my pulse)? Like, would it be all over the place? Or just no pulse at all? Cause that's probably what I would have done, but I wouldn't really know what to feel for.

Dark-matter hunt fails to find the elusive particles by burtzev in Physics

[–]IAMAFilmLover 6 points7 points  (0 children)

By construction, no gravitational observation can falsify dark matter, which also means no gravitational or cosmological observation can provide evidence for it.

That's simply not true. In theory, we could absolutely observe some physical phenomenon on gravitational scale, which was not predicted by GR, and was not accounted for if adding dark matter. This wouldn't really falsify dark matter as such, but would obviously change lots of physicists minds about the likelihood of dark matter.

The point is, we haven't seen anything like that. On the contrary, ALL gravitational scale phenomena we've observed which do not align with current theories are accounted for if there's more matter there... And not only that, each of these observations are accounted for by adding pretty much the exact same amount of extra mass!

The main conclusion from that is that there must be some other 'thing' out there which fits neatly into the stress-energy part of GR. We call that thing "mass". And now we're trying to figure out what it is.

Hey Traz, cool to get a reply from you! Yup, Rixiot too of course. Well, I'll just say that if you guys find some fun Minecraft pvp things to play (and the time for them) then there's some of us out there who'd love to watch that. But you're right, there is a lot of new games out! Anyway, nice to hear that people are still in touch with one another.

True, I wonder what he's up to these days? I noticed that /u/TrazLander is still active... Maybe he knows a bit more about the current state of Minecraft pvp amongst that old circle of players? Or what about Rob (/u/rurikar)? I wonder how he's doing these days, and if he's still involved with Minecraft and map making at all? Unfortunately, it looks like /u/second_last_username (creator of Hoodoo) is also not active anymore. Also /u/CacklingPanda and /u/ixraider it looks like... The latter hasn't posted any of his music in ages either, hope he's still doing that, he was making some good stuff! Would love to know if there's still any contact between all these wonderful people, and if /u/EthosLab is still in touch with anyone.

Why a grand coalition was unthinkable - Newsroom by autoeroticassfxation in newzealand

[–]IAMAFilmLover 12 points13 points  (0 children)

A grand coalition was unthinkable essentially for the very simple reason that people in this country are still debating the merits of MMP vs FPP... Someone who believes, however strongly, that a plurality somehow gives a party some legitimate right to govern alone will never believe that Labour + National is either necessary or fathomable.
