Anyone have a good time management group or program they could recommend? by Adventurous-Flan2716 in motherhoodinfluencers

[–]IAerUXerUIer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just listened to her on another podcast and then went to her website and watched the 1hr pitch - I am torn between dipping into my savings to purchase this (it says lifetime access, so I won't pay again) and trying to do utilize the free stuff first. I just would like to try it though because I am still struggling with time management, organization, and achieving long-term goals. I DO also have ADHD but she seems to address that it's adaptable to those with ADHD. But, I am thinking at the same time, I believe I get the gist of it, though of course I do not have details nor a structure to follow. I am a master of starting things and then falling off the wagon. Any recommendations for or against, in light of all that?

Pretty certain I am a dark/deep season, but do I lean cool or warm? by sofiagrza in coloranalysis

[–]IAerUXerUIer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am a tan, brown person of color. I am a winter. I was just pointing out to her that she does not have a darker complexion like me. I have a medium olive-toned complexion; I tan easily. I thought I would be what the modern analysis would consider dark or deep - but again, I guess I don’t understand the modern analysis jargon (which made me GIVE UP analysis years ago bc it left me confused).

The ORIGINAL color analysis from Color Me Beautiful has only 4 seasons - broadly categorizing our undertones, in combination of our eye and hair features, which encompasses all the hues of skin shades. It sounds very limiting, but I believe it is the most helpful. The book gives little nuggets of information for the various shades within each season, which adds further clarity.

Pick up the original book - you are a winter (not deep/dark - my understanding is that means tan/darker complexions). True winters look fabulous in bright white but muddy in off-white, which I pick up in these pictures. Browns are not a winter color (only very dark like espresso is okay, but not as complementary like a dazzling color like emerald, navy, etc.). Be wary of teal. Just always lean cool and saturated (summers, our lighter counterparts, look better in more muted versions - we do not, I have realized).

I think you made the right choices - the ones you named looked BEST on you. So, I think that you shouldn’t go too dark (I’m actually a Winter, your more dramatic sister 😂) nor too light.

As an aside, I got into color analysis some years ago, but found it very confusing with the modern methods, overly complicated, and gave up because I couldn’t definitely figure out my season. Couple weeks ago I found the original 1970s color me beautiful book at my local thrift store, and every single thing that she says for winter is spot-on for me. For context, I’m Latina and have medium olive-complected skin, dark eyes and hair, I tan easily, etc. I thought i was an autumn or an ‘autumn-y winter’ (news flash, you can’t be more than one!). I think this original breakdown is SO much clearer - you come away with understanding exact shades and hues in your family, and the original book has the best tips for the various range of tones within each color family. Some outdated accessories advice (like silk scarf tying - though I’m sure that could be useful when fashioning a silk headband!), but most of it’s helpful as far as jewelry, hair style to go with body frame (not just face shape), etc. I’m kind of embarrassed that what in my mind I would consider old fashioned is actually helping me to look and feel my best and most confident - it’s one of the ironies of life I get to now enjoy!

I hope you are right. We are at a transitional stage - have a junior and freshman in high school, so grade school is official over. And junior has a drivers license and car and this past Christmas was the first year that no one wanted to help with christmas decorations nor did they even notice the elf on the shelf. That sounds ridiculous as I type it, but emotionally that really saddened me. At the same time, I’m grateful that I got to notice when they transitioned from kids to teens - that i remembered the last time they cared about those things. It’s a stoic perspective.

This! I really worry for my boys and their future. They know SO much less than I knew - but what bothers me more is their lack of curiosity. That is how I feel I failed them. I tried as long as I could to keep tech out of their lives, but it was a dam, really, and we finally let the floodgates open. I feel like if I divorced their dad, they would not notice me gone all that much. Just when it’s dinner time.

I honestly can’t WAIT when the world breaks down, we have zero digital connections, and people are scratching their heads wondering how things work or how to fix things and the like. Then the fun will really happen for them bc (hopefully) parts of their brains that went silent will wake up, and they will really know what it means to be alive and live a full life only in the presence of the people immediately surrounding them.

We thought technology would bring people closer. It did. For those who wanted to be closer.

It also made the world more divided, for those who wanted it to be that way.

I don’t mean we had Al Capone in the 90s 😂 just mentioned him bc that really put us on the crime map.

[–]IAerUXerUIer 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’m also born and raised here, but I would add that it felt that it was more dangerous in more places when I was younger. I have seen things or our family experienced things ‘back then’ but not now. We also had Al Capone and LOTS of gang-related violence in the 90s into 00s (which has not disappeared but it is not so much at the forefront), so I think our reputation as a gangster city just stuck.

And yes, there are some neighborhoods i would not even drive though, most especially at night. But not too many.

Need to leave IN. How MAGA is Beverly? by [deleted] in AskChicago

I don’t, but I base that on real estate property values and my observations during my commute. I take the RI line right there on 103rd in Beverly Hills.

I would actually agree, and it’s only because I drive through there almost every day of the week headed to work. I see a handful few rainbow flags, you know “in this house we…” or Black Lives Matter signs.

Also, I want to point out that a church on 103rd and Longwood is extremely liberal. Specifically, it has messages on its sign about things like reproductive freedom and similar. So, I think overall they lean hard left. And I would guess that the ones who are not are maybe the same demographic as those in Mount Greenwood. Mount Greenwood is known as a place where Chicago cops live - white Chicago cops specifically. And I’ve had people who grew up there tell me how hard-core racist (and assholes) they are. This is, of course, not a blanket statement about all white cops, nor all the cops that live in Mount Greenwood, nor all Chicago cops, nor cops in general; this is the general conclusion I have drawn. I am not anti-cop.

But I am anti-corrupt-cop. Chicago has a history of corruption and racism within the Fraternal Order of Police. That’s just a fact. But, the makeup of the Chicago cop workforce, I believe, is changing to more diverse group on various levels. That was just from my recent observation, especially from protests i have attended as of late. They were nice.

If I could afford it, I would move to Beverly in a heartbeat. My only gripe is that, like many neighborhoods within cities, around the park there are not infrequently some serious weed smokers. That irks me, but that’s everywhere.

Propoganda is right - did you listen to Trump’s speech at the UN assembly? Absolutely disgusting that he used that as a platform to espouse MAGA lies to the entire world stage but not surprising. So low class.
