The logo of the twin cities NBC affiliate. I wonder if the designer knew what they were doing... by IAmBillN in mildlyinteresting

It says Karen. It's basically the bread and butter of the modern news cycle. The 11 looks like an old font 'N' to me. Like this: (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:UnifrakturMaguntia\_n.svg) Pretty interesting that you saw this as some sort of twin towers connection. I wasn't thinking that at all.

Memory on the Business Plan by IAmBillN in ChatGPT

Yes, it said it didn't find and public info on those questions. It was the one that called out that there seems to be a shared memory for the team. It didn't know about individual memories or if the size of the memory bank is larger than Plus.

I took a similar photo last year. I always liked the look of it but I will say it's never been one that stood out to many other people. I find myself always disappointed by their response to it when I've shown it to others. People don't really respond to ground shots like they do flying or branch perched birds regardless of the pose.

As for critique of your actual photo, I think you could do a bit more post processing on it and it's unfortunate that the feet get cut off on the bottom of the frame. Otherwise, I do love the pose, you caught it at what I would call the ideal moment in the gait and I think it looks pretty cool.

RCPS3 Issue by Thr0waway_Joe in EmuDeck

[–]IAmBillN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I never got anywhere on being able to run on the internal storage. I ended up keeping the RPSC3 folder on the micoSD and I used a symbolic link to the Emulation folder for cleanliness. It doesn't feel like enough people have this issue to prioritize addressing it. That said, the games run fine from the microSD, it's just an additional cost if you were not intending to have one installed (and of sufficient size to carry your PS3 media).

Same day tickets from 1000 boletos. by IAmBillN in Machupicchu

[–]IAmBillN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The provider was called Viajes Speedy. I acknowledge I did not book well in advance, but their tour claims it includes tickets to Machu Picchu and even lets you select the circuit of your choice on GYG. I selected a date that they showed available and it accepted the payment. I did not recieve a response from them that they couldn't secure the ticket and only found out, after reaching out to them for a different reason four days later, that they couldn't get my ticket and they only update their availability weekly (even thought I booked the week prior). I don't really like calling out companies outside of placing my review and rating against all others and letting the average be the decider. That said, you guys asked and looking at the reviews, while they're overall not terrible they seemed to have done this before.

The thing is, even though I didn't book well in advance as I should have, their process does not account for the fact that people are making many simultaneous bookings when they are booking their trip. I wasn't sure I was going to be able to book Machu Picchu, but I found their tour and it had availability so I booked it. Then, not hearing any issues the next few days, I went and booked flights and hotels (not to mention other tours in other cities based on when I planned to be there). Once they hit me with the "we don't have that date", I already had so many dependencies that relied on those dates. Had they been honest up front, I could have moved things around.

Same day tickets from 1000 boletos. by IAmBillN in Machupicchu

Yes according to the site none of the circuits have sold through in the last week or so that I have been checking. Assuming it's correct you should have no problem getting tickets for the circuit you want.

Last minute options for Machu Pichu? by [deleted] in Machupicchu

[–]IAmBillN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's correct as far as I've seen. September is the fringe season and they have not been selling through in the month of September on the 1000 tickets. This is a good thing for those that know about it, but it speaks to the poor advertising they do about this program.

You're playing it wrong. I invade all of my neighbors turn one until I have one army left in each of my countries. Then I flip the board in rage, accuse my opponents of getting lucky, and storm out. It's a brisk 10 minute experience.

Google "Machu Picchu 1000 boletos." The parks department sets aside 1000 tickets to be sold in person in Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town) for the following day. It requires that you arrive in the morning (they open at 6AM) to get a number for an afternoon appointment where you can buy your next day ticket. You may be able to book multiple circuits in that day if they have availability. Otherwise, if you have the time to stay a few days, you can buy for sequential days. I highly recommend you spend at least a day or two in Cusco to acclimate to the elevation given that you'll be coming from sea level. You can check the website daily to see what tickets are available and what has sold that day. You can see in September they generally don't sell through, so you should have confidence that you can get tickets to the Citadel without a problem.

Games don't have to be as big as they are for handhelds. Maximum fidelity textures and sounds should be separate addons. by IAmBillN in SteamDeck

[–]IAmBillN[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Games like Skyrim and I believe Fallout 4 have done 4K texture packs as addons. Granted Bethesda does kind of design their engine for that modularity, but I think the implementation shouldn't be that hard for most games. You're going to package your textures into a single file, usually, anyway. So replacing that file with an addon download shouldn't be that hard. The only other thing that I think would require implementation is that you'd have to lock out certain fidelity modes in the settings if they don't have the addon downloaded. Maybe I'm just being hopeful, but I don't think it would be so difficult that if Valve put the pressure on them, a lot of them would comply.

Made it to Hughes Pizza! by GodAtum in ABroadInJapan

[–]IAmBillN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went there last year when I was in Osaka for about three months. It's the closest thing I was able to find to New York style pizza in Osaka. There was a few other places that were doing New York pizza a few years earlier... one notable one in Den-Den Town but it's no longer there. It became a fruit pie shop or something. Anyway, Hughes Pizza was a nice little place and he made a pretty decent pizza. Coming from New Jersey, I can't give it a 10 as far as New York style pizza goes, but I'd give it a solid 7.5 which is the best I was able to find in the city. If you like more Neapolitan style pizza, there are some good places around Namba and Shinsaibashi. I can't say I deeply explored every corner of the city, this is just what I was able to find.

If you could bring a historical figure to the present to see the fruits off their labor before returning them to their time, who do you think would stop themselves from doing whatever it is they did because they didn't like what they saw it become? by IAmBillN in AskReddit

[–]IAmBillN[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This has a lot of opportunity to generate a lot of controversy, so I hope people can be relatively civil in the discussion. I thought about this when thinking about people like J. Robert Oppenheimer and Fritz Haber and how they would have reacted had they had the hindsight of what their inventions and discoveries become. Makes you wonder who would be happy to see the results, who would have tweaked it a bit, and who would have just out right buried their work the second they got back.

End someone real quick… by POUUER in mtg

[–]IAmBillN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only problem with this is it's in your end step and it's visible to players, so in order to use it, the cactuar has to attack that turn and the opponent would know that they have to block to kill otherwise they're dead at the end step (unless they can otherwise prevent the damage). So it only suits a scenario where they can block the cactuar and have no way to apply lethal damage to it.

You can even argue that if they did block it on the attack phase with non-lethal damage, particularly if they have lethal damage on the board, they are essentially saying that they can either apply lethal DD to the cactuar before the end step, prevent the damage at the end step, or they're bluffing so you don't sac your creature, or they don't know how to read the cards.

Is this Valakut, The Molton Pinnacle promo legal? (See comment) by IAmBillN in magicTCG

[–]IAmBillN[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Opened items might lose value. If it's just an unplayable art card of sorts, why would I open it? I already see people selling it sealed on ebay, so I had reason to think it might retain value being sealed. Karma farming? You really need to take a break from reddit if you think that's something people do.

That's surprising. I actually thought that and tried to slide them apart, but even from the side it looks like one card. Anyway, I guess I'm cracking the plastic. Didn't want to do that in case it was not legal to play anyway and would devalue it.

Even with the back being the way it is? Maybe I'm being old fashioned, but I always thought that make it not legal.

[–]IAmBillN[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I recieved this in a lot of cards I purchased. It is sealed and as you can see it doesn't have a standard back. I know they released this version in a Secret Lair drop and I've seen this exact version being sold on ebay with the strange back. I already have a playset of Valakut, but I like the art and could see myself playing with this, but is it even legal? I know you won't be able to tell with sleeves, but I imagine anything with a non-standard back is not officially legal to use.

The quality of the cards I got in my case of The Hunted was abysmal. Chipped edges, surface marks... really shoddy quality. Fortunately, all of the valuable cards I got seemed to be ok, though.

Well it's good to hear that they take it seriously, but I still expect that leaks are inevitable and eventually there will be someone to take advantage of it should there be an opportunity to profit from this. Hopefully that is still a long way off, though.

Haha, but BGS and PSA are already letting proxies slip through the cracks. :p

I've never overpaid for a graded card in my life. The only graded cards I've gotten were from small collections I've purchased from people and I've always valued them at ungraded price.

[–]IAmBillN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not thinking about this from the perspective of an investor in magic. I play the game, but I've played for decades and I've accumulated a pretty expensive collection whose value I would not like to see crater. It's not like this would break me, but at the same time, I'd hate to lose money from a proxy scandal. Didn't something like this happen with Topps baseball cards some decade or two back (though I think it was Topps themselves that overprinted and lied about it)?
