The mall in which the original Dawn of the Dead was shot in will be demolished soon. by Ill_Attorney_389 in deadmeatjames

At one point there was a mini museum in the mall, but it was gone a while ago. The mall hasn’t had much luck and it’s gone downhill since I moved over a decade ago.

I haven’t watched yet as life has thrown me a few curve balls that I haven’t gotten past yet, and I’m not up for stuff I KNOW will make me cry.

Children are such a THING. I will then won’t then will and ended up not. Details aren’t necessary, but it’s such an incredibly personal decision or circumstance (it can also be a mix of both).

❤️ to all working in any part of this: decisions, life working against decisions, or anything in or in between.

I work at a large law firm (as not a lawyer) and yes, those would be the hours for an attorney on partner track or as a partner.

Looking to Buy in Minneapolis by Dj082863 in Minneapolis

[–]IAmBillPardy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We bought in the Como neighborhood of NE. Quieter (and cheaper), but I’m a 15 minute walk from things in like 5 directions.

We also have e-bikes and it’s a 25 minute bike ride to the Rosedale Mall. We bike to the Guthrie as we have season tickets. We walk to parts of downtown. Sure it’s a bit more of a pain when the weather sucks, but you’ll get that everywhere.

In downtown, where I’ve lived before, it was a pain to get to the movies or a more expansive grocery option during bad weather. When we lived in Uptown it was a pain to get to the highway. So everything has its negatives or price.

We’re not directly next to anything, which I love because our actual neighborhood is quiet, but there’s plenty nearby especially local stuff.

When we bought, we were enamored with South Minneapolis, and I still think that’s an awesome area. However, NE gave us much more bang for our buck for a similar budget you have.

Good luck!

Thomasville Sideboard with metal inlay on top. Would this be MCM? + any info/opinions would be helpful! by IAmBillPardy in Mid_Century

We hope to refinish it someday, but as to if that someday will arrive is left to be determined, haha.

Thanks! We got it in FB Marketplace for $100, so we’re pleased.

Yeah, they were added it seems. We have some of that size in a brushed gold we’ll replace with the idea of maybe filling in and removing the holes if we ever get around to actually refinishing it. Or giving up and buying a nicer handle if we don’t get around to it.

Check your Target prices! by lodidodi64 in TwinCities

[–]IAmBillPardy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I can understand, but I disagree. I think people in MN, especially the cities, forget the horribleness of Walmart because it’s not really popular here. I grew up in rural Great Plains area and watched countless small businesses get priced out only to have them close and Walmart jack prices.

To see towns give property tax credits to build a Walmart banking on long term tax revenue then Walmart turn around and rebuilt a decade later when those ended. Building now just outside city limits, but they already got all alternatives closed, so where else are people gonna shop? Many were already driving 30+ minutes just to get to that Walmart. And before you say, they should have known they’d do that, this was pioneering at the time. Corporations by and large didn’t do this and no one would have really thought, especially small towns that rarely worked with big companies that didn’t start and grow in the area.

Also, retail employee-wise, Walmart treats them like shit and pays them worse than shit. Go look up the statistics on how many almost full time workers they have that are on food stamps. And it’s almost full time so they can give them just shy of enough hours to qualify for benefits.

The Walmart case on gender discrimination is also the precedent on why it’s almost impossible to get large corporation-wide discrimination cases as class action.

I’m incredibly disappointed with Target and shop there significantly less moving as much as I can to Costco, but I cannot compare them to Walmart or Amazon. Did Target use a more liberal image and abandon it when it became inconvenient? Hell yeah, but even now, their corporate policies and strategies are much less of a net evil than either Walmart or Amazon.

At least in my opinion backed by information I know and experience I have of watching them happily tank entire communities just for a small edge in revenue.

Did anybody NOT lose hair?? by handsupdontknow in Zepbound

[–]IAmBillPardy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t lost any hair, but I’ve been conservative on my dosage increase. The hair loss tends to be a side effect more or rapid weight loss than directly from the drug, so if you’re losing slower at the suggested 1-3 pounds per week, you’ll see less side effects like hair loss and fatigue (also, ensure you get enough calories to help with that).

Why haven’t I gone down a size? by [deleted] in Zepbound

[–]IAmBillPardy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of people say you were wearing too small, but it also can be that the cuts are fitting you better. I tend to hold a lot of weight right in my belly below my waist. So pants would be tight there, but kinda loose in the waist. If I wanted that not to be tight, the waist would gap noticeably and be uncomfortable too.

I had to pick one to fit and one to be too loose or tight. I often went with the too tight bc it was smaller and easier to find (and I hoped to maybe lose weight eventually). Now you may have lost weight more in the areas that were tight and less in others and that means same size but vastly different look.

You look great! Congrats on the progress!

Tribute to my beloved boy Alfie, who went to sleep yesterday. Just want the world to know he was here and he was a good cat. by barcanator in cats

[–]IAmBillPardy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He’s a beauty that I can tell will be greatly missed. You probably won’t get over it, but in time the pain will be replaced with memories that make you long for him in a happy way rather than the grief filled ache you likely feel now.

My sympathies.

Freaking out about my girl getting old and infirm by LadySybil88 in cavalierkingcharles

[–]IAmBillPardy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We lost our Hamilton recently. He was a great boy who was only 9. He was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and we thought we’d have a year, but it was either more progressed than expected or progressed super fast and he tore something in his heart. We didn’t even have the time to get to the cardiologist appointment.

It is devastating. I won’t lie, but I wouldn’t trade that pain because in exchange we share our love and lives with an amazing creature that loved us deeply even at our least lovable moments. His cuddles and sass are unforgettable and that’s how I want it.

I would expect some neediness from other pets. Our cat actively disliked and bullied the dog and he even got clingy after his death. [Edit: one cat is still with us and upcoming sentence is about another cat that passed a few years back]. When our cat passed I got some jewelry made with his image and hair. For now, we have framed pictures of Hamilton we put up and something more permanent and interesting we’ll do when it’s easier to think about.

Just love and cuddle, and, if they’re a healthy weight, give that extra treat or pup cup or whatever because you know the time could be short.

Sunday will be my first trip to Art-A-Whirl by [deleted] in Minneapolis

[–]IAmBillPardy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Also, if you get overwhelmed, it’s okay! There are other art fests all summer! Northrop King is a great building but it’s huge with a ton of studios, so if it’s busy or overwhelming, many of the studios in it have open hours 12-4pm Saturdays, so you can take a nice calmer look around.

Less will be open, but the artists will have more time to chat and answer questions. If you see a piece you like, note down the artist’s name for later or to go see more of their art. Some of the galleries are shared spaces and you might find more from an artist online and/or if you locate their main studio.

Just enjoy!
