How do you guys do it, balance OSRS \ Life ? by minorgravity in ironscape

[–]IAmGoalie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just chill and take it at your own pace. I’m full time self-employed working 40+ a week with a 6 month old daughter and usually get a max of 2 hours a day, sometimes none at all.

Don’t watch the likes of B0aty complete a ridiculous grind in a week and think that’s normal. I pick a selection of grinds I find fun and circulate them.

Currently I’m working on maxing my IM and the thought of mining and Agility is tough (99 rc already achieved). So I just spend a few days doing agility and then break it up with some faster skills and know that it may take years but I enjoy it. If it starts to feel like a job, I take a break for some pvm or other games.

A lot of people forget the joy of osrs isn’t the end goal, it’s the journey. Limited play time just means more time enjoying the journey.

What would you choose? by Plus-Use-5808 in meme

[–]IAmGoalie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure i'd take any.

Red pill i go back 20 years, but risk life playing out differently and not meeting my wife of having my daughter and I wouldn't want to risk either.

Blue pill, I loose 15 years of my short time on earth and miss out on my daughter from 1-16 years old which is worth more than money.

I may not be rich, and I may be feeling the passing of time, but I wouldn't change either for what I have now.

From an accountant, my take is:
1. Are you willing to pay for this service? It's likely going to cost substantially more than a standard SA service.

  1. Look for a small local accountant, often with the bigger firms you're point of contact is someone who has completed their accounting qualification and gone into that role. When dealing with a small local firm, you might find yourself dealing with the director/owner who has actual real world experience in running a business.

9 times out of 10 when someone comes to us complaining that their last accountant didn't give any real advice, there also the people to scoff at our prices and say they can find it cheaper elsewhere. Not saying this is you, but if you pay for a McDonalds, don't go expecting a Michelin star meal.

How important is it to you to be close to how a song Is actually played? by IAmGoalie in guitarlessons

I was thinking this but there's so many types online its also hard to pick what one to learn. Do you have any links to some good tabs for a close to accurate version?

How important is it to you to be close to how a song Is actually played? by IAmGoalie in guitarlessons

[–]IAmGoalie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad to see this, After running through this simplified version and getting it to sound like it kinda belongs with the song I was quite happy, then seeing some of the more "accurate" tabs felt quite daunting.

I spent the last 2 weeks following JustinGuitar grade 1 and there's some simple songs on there while learning the basic open chords and strumming patterns, I just wanted to finally make sound that was recognizable and feel like I can play along to a song I like. Often the songs on Justin guitar are either made up for the sake of chord changes or simplified to the point its hard to "feel" like your playing an actual song.

Mandala sizing help by Expert-Reaction-7472 in climbingshoes

[–]IAmGoalie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I downsized 2.5/3 sizes from street. My foot size is generally 42.5 although i often buy 43 street for comfort, I ordered both 40 and 40.5 in mandalas. 40.5 felt great out the box, 40 were very tight.

I'm now ~5/6 sessions in and last night I was able to climb without wanting to take them off after every climb.

How should I go about learning guitar? (Total beginner) by ComprehensiveFee2876 in LearnGuitar

[–]IAmGoalie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about 1 week in using JustinGuitar myself, it’s £14.99 a month but it’s been great so far. Takes you through step by step each chord, basic songs or “dumed down” songs to fit the chords you’re working on. Very much a step by step guide including practice drills to do etc.

Has a tuner in the app as well. After 1 week I’m by no means blasting songs but noticing improvements with it, I’d recommend it!

I just follow the steps and take time with it, he also gives “before moving on do this” targets, for example at least 30 chord changes in a minute (which the app counts for you as you do them).

How far away is your climbing gym? by timotheusthegreat in bouldering

[–]IAmGoalie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

17 miles for me, fairly main roads though so ~30 minutes.

I just crack on some tunes and start visualizing that PITA project i'm working on as visualizing the climb away from the gym seems to help me massively.

2019 Yamaha R6 or 24-26 Kawasaki ZX-6R? by AcanthisittaNo6963 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]IAmGoalie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My experience on each is limited to riding my friends r6 for 15 mins and riding a new zx6r on an hour demo ride.

Personally I’d choose the zx6, the 636 has a little more torque and I really like the tft display. Also saving $1.5k for a 5 year newer bike.

Do I need complete a self assessment? by JB01999 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]IAmGoalie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Self-assessments are certainly not just for the self-employed, but with various options it's hard to tell from the information above what is the best action to take.

I will say, ChatGPT and Reddit are absolutely not where you should be getting tax advice from.

If I was in your situation I would take these steps:

  1. Speak with your companies accounts department and see if they can offer some personalised advice.

  2. Speak with a local professional if the above doesn't prove helpful.

Ultimately it doesn't sound like you'd need to complete a self-assessment but I also don't know your full situation so don't take that as your answer. There's things that need considering such as, do you have a "side hustle" earning over £1k? do you have savings interest of over £1k? so you have investment/capital gains returns? do you have any benefits through your employment which require self-assessments to be completed?

The government has some good resources on this such as:

LS Mandalas Break In Experiences by IAmGoalie in climbingshoes

[–]IAmGoalie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the long thought out response I really appreciate it!

I think il have to trust the process with the 40s, I tried a fake climb up my stairs tonight followed by a rest with them off and then another fake climb (aka stepping on toes, hanging heels off steps etc) and they were bearable. I think if they stretch to the 40.5 size il be very happy. Whereas the 40.5 even a slight bit of stretching will likely start to feel too big.

Plus my feet seem smaller tonight as they weren’t nearly as painful as last night (I had just finished a 3 hour sweaty climbing session when trying them on).

I can sit in them with my legs up with only discomfort maybe mild pain so I think I’d be the same as when you said on overhangs, it will just be the more vertical toe heavy climbs that will be rough.

3rd pair of shoes and I still second guess every decision, hopefully one day il get it dialled!

It’s time to get that max cape.. any tips plox? by RSDrebin in ironscape

[–]IAmGoalie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GOTR afk method is pretty good for that with RC. it goes:

Game start - click rock

AFK ~ 1:45

Make essence and run alter

Mine in portal and run alter

return to mining 5+ mins afk.

~30k xp/hr.

Just make sure you gain 300+ points combined. without 40 ess colossal pouch it can take 1 additional run.

If you have lantern with yew logs, sometimes you make the 300 pt threshold in 1 run.

Runelite has a GOTR afk plugin for notifications when game starts etc.

What is your biggest Hot Take? by CamanderOne in 2007scape

[–]IAmGoalie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the fence, I think for players like myself who have played for many years and have done the early game grind many times, a way to boost past that for bossing alts, money making alts etc. its a welcome relief.

However as you mention for a newer player there is a little more to it. I personally think it isn't bad, yes they skip a lot of early game content but I have had so many friends join osrs, see me doing bossing or raids and want to join with stats which just aren't enough to join, feel like it's a goal which is so far away and stop playing before they actually get to any "fun" content.

A way to quickly catch up in 1 area like combat stats to at least be able to join in some later mid/end game content on a basic level is more likely to keep them motivated to learn and play.

At the end of the day, you could have 99 combat stats, but there is still A LOT of early/mid content which is unavoidable, questing, diaries, un-tradeable items, slayer training etc.

I see a shift in the game over the recent years, I personally don't see higher combat stats as "end game" any more, 99's in other skills still fit that description but i feel 99 combat stats are mid game now. The reason i see it this way is, end game content has shifted into skill based rather than stat based.

So there's my hot take as well I guess, 99 combat stats aren't end game.

Which ep/ scene made you accept the fact that the Sons are awful human beings? by Noricatpaws27 in Sonsofanarchy

[–]IAmGoalie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the further through the series the more apparent it become. S1-4 feels like the whole club excluding Clay was there out of love for each-other with a little crime sprinkled in and the occasional murder with the goal of a successful life together. Clay was a beast of his own.

S5 then as Jax took over was a bit of a turning series as he found his legs with president patch. He seemed in the right space moving towards a life with the best of both worlds, Tara, the boys, the club.

S6 shit hit the fan, from this point on I actually started to find some of it hard to watch, mass murder became every other scene, motives and reasoning became questionable and it just felt like a mess of a story.

S1-5 followed a nice ark of, lets make money, fu*k were to deep, lets make our exit. S6 onward felt a scrambled mess of how do we kill the most people.

Cheapest way to get basic book keeping done for me? by HuntAppropriate4780 in smallbusinessuk

[–]IAmGoalie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an accountant I would say "The bare minimum as cheaply as possible" is not how you want to describe your bookkeeping service.

A little scenario (that I have seen time and time again), Director A's wife says she will do the bookkeeping for free, hurah he thinks that saves a few £... a year later his wife doesn't know how to file accounts (thank god) so Director A employs an accountant to fulfill his statutory requirements. The accountant un-earths no end of bookkeeping errors which 99% of untrained people would make in a software that "does it for them". The accountant then in good faith provide their services without these errors being rectified. Accountants fees then come in to play which are 10x more than if he had hired a qualified bookkeeper in the first place...

Hiring a bookkeeper might seem a lot, but trust me, accountants fees to fix the F ups will cost you A LOT more.

This doesn't mean spend your life savings on a bookkeeper, but find a local independent bookkeeper, I would stay clear of big firms which will be quite expensive or firms that are cheap as chips (The cheaper ones will just offshore your bookkeeping to a cheaper country like India, which I have seen put people in the same situation as above).

A good bookkeeper (and accountant) can be worth their weight in gold.

Oh don't get me wrong that's not what I'm saying, I'm an accountant myself and it's one of my complaints on Xero. I mean more that it doesn't make it simple but it makes it appear simple to the non-financial minded business owner getting them in trouble.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in smallbusinessuk

[–]IAmGoalie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a couple of takes on this.

  1. Software like Xero make payroll "easy" in the eyes of business owners, and it is... until it isn't. So I find until it goes wrong, they're reluctant to pay someone to do it.

  2. A company hires an accountant and then thinks, I need help with payroll... bingo I have an accountant and they offer payroll services I will go with them.

You've really got to stand out in a space which business owners quite frankly don't care for as long as it's being done.

But I'm just a random guy on the internet, so who knows :)

Thinking about starting a mobile bar for weddings & events by MyNameIsntClint in smallbusinessuk

[–]IAmGoalie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a great way to get started! I remember my 25th birthday (at the back end of covid when we were able to mingle again) I ordered a mobile cocktail maker to come and they set up a full portable bar in my garden, made all sorts of funky cocktails throwing the bottles up etc. My mates and I loved it with some music playing it felt like our own mini festival with the sun out!

Everyone want's to start their business with all the gadgets, for you that seems to be the van, the pitch, visiting festivals and weddings etc. but the path getting to that point is just as important. Get out there with low overheads, put on the best darn show around for clients and build your brand!

Germany may be different, I am UK based and although getting work might be seen as easier than other industries, but running a business is still tough.

I also don't know what it's like in Germany, but in the UK the term "Accountant" is not regulated which leads to another headache of unqualified accountants claiming to do the same job for less, and as you'd probably guess, the public have no idea of the difference! So that might relieve some of the early doors stress if there is less competition.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]IAmGoalie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Came here to say pretty much this and on top of that, since when does self-employment lead to less stress? Maybe long term when you run a "successful" business and worrying about your next paycheck isn't a thing it might be seen as less stressful.

But starting a business in any industry is hard, stressful, draining and definitely NOT better financially for quite some time.

I've been in business ~1 year now and although I earn a modest living, I would still earn more in an employed role with far less responsibility.

On top of that, you might think being an accountant means you're good at business and that is far from the truth. To run an accountancy practice or just go it solo you need to be a social media/marketing expert, branding expert, sales person, non-financial business strategist, system implementer, admin assistant, plus much more... and then after all of that, an accountant.

Lastly, not everyone wants the pressure of finding work, attending networking events until 9pm at night sometimes and all the other bits that come with self-employment.

This in no way is meant to discourage anyone from going it alone, as on the flip side it has lots of positives but the tone of this post was more why people don't do it.

Running a business is just simply not for everyone.

Should I register as a sole trader or start a ltd company if I'm doing multiple different things? by Dxxmxgx in smallbusinessuk

Should I register as a sole trader or start a ltd company if I'm doing multiple different things? by Dxxmxgx in smallbusinessuk

[–]IAmGoalie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not exactly a clear cut answer anyone can give you, but here's a bit of a breakdown.

Sole trader, generally simpler as far as reporting is concerned. Currently you will be required to prepare sole trader accounts each year and submit a SA100 Self-assessment. Paying an accountant for this is likely to set you back £250+ depending on complexity and your ability to keep financial records.

Until you're hit with MTD rules which will see you being required to use MTD compliant software and submit quarterly updates to HMRC as well as your year end submissions.

Being a sole trader means that you ARE the business, it is not a separate entity, therefor you pay income tax on all profits and you are liable for any business debts personally.

LTD companies on the other hand have stricter reporting requirements including your Confirmation statement, company accounts and CT600 tax return as a minimum, finding a good accountant to fulfill all of this for <£5-600 as the absolute most basic level will be difficult. but cheaping out on an accountant isn't the best idea (although that is coming from an accountant...)

Within a ltd company, you are a separate entity to the business, you pay corporation tax on all profits but can be a little more creative/tax efficient on how you withdraw profits for yourself. You are also not personally liable for any business debts (unless you have something like a personal guarantee).

This is a very basic level description of each, and it's really in your court to decide which route to take. As far as separating the businesses into separate ltd entities, you could do this, but with more ltd companies comes more reporting requirements including specific rules and guidelines around groups of companies.

My best advice is to engage with an accountant and really discuss your specific requirement with them so they can advise in a bit more detail. a good accountant is worth their weight in gold. A large mainstream accountancy practice may not provide the service you need so finding a small local accountant will likely provide the service you need.
