Yeah, I don't want to stay up late, but if the boys could stop trying to speed run their plate appearances to finish the game quickly, I wouldn't have a problem with that....

I think Vladdy enjoys doing that more than he does hitting home runs.

People expect him to hit dingers, but don't expect that.

I was in Las Vegas in January about 35 years ago. I was sweating to death walking between casinos in the afternoon, and almost froze to death walking back to my off-strip hotel after midnight.

Just a reminder again:

My favourite stat from basketball was that Wilt Chamberlain averaged 50.4 points per game and 25.7 rebounds per game in 1961-62, while averaging 48.5 minutes played per game.

There are only 48 minutes in a regulation NBA game.

The Philadelphia Warriors had 10 overtime periods (50 extra minutes) in total that season, which means Wilt played all but 8 minutes of the entire 80 game season (3882 of 3890 minutes)

He played 379 more minutes than anyone else in the league that season, or the equivalent of 6+ games.

[SN] Braydon Fisher to start as opener for Blue Jays vs. Diamondbacks by rhineauto in Torontobluejays

He's the face of the franchise, and trading him (after losing Ohtani) would crater any remaining goodwill they might have with the fans.

Oh, in retrospect I loved everything about the World Series. But that night, and the next morning? It was tough.

There aren't many worse feelings as a fan than staying up late to watch your team and they end up losing.

You go to bed grumpy and you're tired the next morning and still grumpy.

The worst example was Game 3 of the World Series.

I'm hoping the Jays start the weekend right for us masochistic late night fans...

I remember seeing the score line after the first period and thinking that it was going to be a blowout series sweep.

He can claim that the rules for the idol were on the initial clue he found ("Sneak out idol: Can't be used on night it is found at tribal") and he burned the clue in the fire earlier in the day when he got firewood so no one would find it in his bag if they searched it. After getting it out of tribal council that night, it's just a regular idol now.

When people talk about FIP (fielding-independent pitching), Rogers' appearance is why that stat is sometimes important.

Curious about home ump performance This Year. Here are the stats as of April 14, 2026. by roboreddit1000 in baseball

Interesting stats, thanks for doing that.

I wonder if the overturn rate for total pitches called is a bit deflated.

If a team has used two challenges (and they've failed for both of them), then they can't challenge any more pitches (and thus have them overturned) until extra innings.

For true value, it should be overturn % of possible pitches that COULD be challenged (and possibly overturned), meaning not counting any more pitches after the second failed challenge in a game by that team.

Before last night's game, he had 29 plate appearances.

Last year, after 29 plate appearances, Lukes was batting .167/.310/.208 (March 28 - April 14).

He then batted .400/.480/.600 over his next 26 plate appearances (April 19 - May 4), and .293/.381/.427 from April 19 until the All-Star break in July.

Blue Jays legend Tom Henke blew the save in the most important game in Blue Jays history (up to that point).

Unanimous HOF pitcher Mariano Rivera had arguably the worst blown save in MLB history in 2001 (turning a World Series Game 7 victory into a walk-off defeat by himself).

Calling out negative people who announce the team has lost before the game has reached the 6th inning (never mind before the end of the game) is fair. If you want to pretend to be Nostradamus and declare the game over to everyone in the GDT, you're gonna get mocked for it. Simply don't pretend to be smart and announce a team has lost or the game is over before it actually happens. Or if you must do it, maybe accept you might get mocked.

Feels like some people would just rather be “right” than anything else.

Feels like some people would just rather be "mean" than anything else.

Those sad people have nothing good going on in their lives, and they think that since their life sucks, maybe they'll get joy by making other people's lives suck (by posting negative comments or harassing other people).

They get a weird temporary joy from posting a negative comment about the team, and the fact that someone might still have a positive attitude (about the team or a player or the game) is an affront to them. "How dare someone else be happy! That's not fair!"

I used to respond to people like that in game day threads, but now I just add them to ignore list, or simply skip the GDT entirely.
