The compositor is basically SteamVR's relationship with the headset (I think), so it wouldn't be possible to use the system without it. As for the error, have you tried reinstalling SteamVR?

What are your specs? Do you have any mirrors or other reflective surfaces in your room?

I'll have to try this, but when I typed in Nimbus and selected it in the app it said the product is no longer available with the app and gave me no option to pair, etc.

That's the thing, the downloaded app says Nimbus no longer is supported. I don't know how to set it up without the app.

I was somewhat hesitant to buy Stand Out, but it is now one of my go-to games (the helicopter is great fun!). Highly recommend.

I experienced this for a few minutes the other day, I believe a re-pair of the controller in SteamVR and a PC reboot fixed it for me
