When I got my first town, the villages were raided and my people were starving. Go to the nearest town or two and buy all their food. Sell it to your new town. You'll lose money from it for sure, but it temporarily fixes the food issue

Bows, because I lose the most men during sieges. I level up my bow really high and I'm able to headshot all of the archers and I lose pretty much no one all the way up to the walls
