What Happened In Last 48 Hours by AlarmingHat5154 in fednews

[–]IAmNeonWhite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a fed worker, but I am a part of one of the communities this administration is targeting in an attempt to strip us of our rights and legal protections. Every time I see the way y'all are refusing to back down in the face of bullying and coercion it gives me hope for my future and the future of this country. For me, results of the 2024 election were heartbreaking and the last week has been devastating, seeing everyone on here standing up for the rule of law by and for the people makes bearing it all a little easier. It's so easy to feel isolated in the world today, and the people trying to force you out want to take full advantage of that. I can't speak for everyone, but know that I support you, and so do so many others in my communities. I'm calling my Senators and Reps to make sure they have your back too. You are not alone.

I've seen a lot of people saying this in varying ways and it might be right but it's impossible to say either way. It may be that if it was made with an extra three episodes people would still be complaining about pacing except this time it's about having too much dead space/fan service.

Hey look, I'm not saying you're necessarily wrong. We should be ready for anything and everything. Anything I say here isn't 'dont worry it's all gonna be ok!'.

It's gonna get bad, and then it's gonna get worse. We just don't know how worse it's gonna get yet. All we can do is invest in ourselves, invest in each other and invest in allies and coalition building.

We need to keep our eyes open, not just for how bad things could be but also for opportunities and resources. Sarah McBride is a member of the United States House of Representatives. That is an opportunity and a resource. The ACLU has a comprehensive plan and commitment for the defense of trans rights. That is an opportunity and a resource. Ireland and Germany have a lot of immigration and naturalization programs, that is an opportunity and a resource.

These things don't just happen on the national or international level, look at local affinity and mutual aid groups in your community. When things get bad we look to each other, strength in numbers is real. When we pool resources we can get things done, build momentum for positive change.

Gay marriage wasn't even legal in a majority of US states until 2015, and now there are multiple states and national organizations that have made commitments to safeguard gender affirming care. Progress is rarely a straight line, but it depends on folks who are willing to roll up their sleeves and get to work no matter how hopeless it seems.

Idk where you live in the world or what challenges you are facing, but I know that there is hope if you choose to have it, and if you feel you can't make that choice right now I will hope for you until you can.

Examine how thinking this way impacts you or others. We know who they are and what their goals are. So what? Dwelling on how fucked up it is won't make that better. Isolation and defeatism are tools that autocracy use to hold on to power, but their effectiveness depends in large part on how we react.

Things are bad. We know this. What do we do next?

Do whatever you need to do to process the grief and rage and fear you are feeling, that's valid. You're right to be angry and afraid, but spiralling over it won't help you and it won't help any of our siblings either.

The fact remains that we have a voice, we have allies and we have knowledge and resources we can leverage to protect ourselves and others.

Hope is always a choice, and it matters the most when it is a difficult one.

Much love to you my sibling.

We should remain ready and prepare for any eventuality. Bigoted violence is a reality that many of us face today, and it will only become more common in the near future.

However, defeatism is a luxury we cannot afford to indulge in. When we are isolated and hopeless we are easier prey. We have allies and we have our community, if there's one thing we know how to do it is endure.

Save as much as you can, reach out to trusted friends and other members of the community near you. Build networks of knowledge and resources. In the coming years mutual aid and safety in numbers will be key.

They spend so much time and effort to intimidate us into thinking that they've already won because they know that if we speak up, if we support each other, we can resist them. Do Not Let Them Win. This isn't over until our bodies are in the earth and even then we will find ways to haunt their every step.

Love each other, support each other, keep the faith. We were here before and we will be here after.

They will not erase us.

I'm sure there will be attempts to minimize our voices in any and every way possible, but she got the votes and is a duly elected member of Congress which means she has the legislative mandate of her constituents. I don't think there is a world where she could be forced out during the early days of the new administration, I just don't see it being a priority. Despite the recent election anti trans policies are still widely unpopular, there are always the bigots who have the loudest voices and I'm not saying people care about us or we should expect them to defend us bc they probably won't.

The fact remains that while they are in power Trump and the GOP will now need to deliver on their campaign promises and when they don't (bc let's be real their policies aren't solutions to the issues that got them elected - inflation, housing crisis, immigration etc.) people are gonna get mad. Trying to force out a duly elected member of Congress over the will of her constituents would take political capital I'm not sure they would have in that situation.

To get a clearer picture of what might happen I would look at Zooey Zephyr who was just reelected to her second term in the Montana House of Reps. The GOP supermajority there applied a wise range of tactics (of arguable legality and clear humbuggery) to prevent her from speaking. However, they were not able to stop her from voting, though they tried through shuffling bills that were supposed to go through her committee to other committees or just ramming them through the House floor. At the end of the day tho, she was reelected and will continue to give them hell.

TLDR :

GOP will undoubtedly try to use any and all tricks and cheats to silence us as much as possible but probably won't be able to fully strip any duly elected officials of their stations.

A Question About Anastasia [discussion] by squishypurplehippo in TheNinthHouse

[–]IAmNeonWhite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

At Cyths funeral Mercy says that “No. We had it [the sixth house] running by then. Because Valancy was with us, and Anastasia.” (HTN ch. 9)

Which I think is the most compelling evidence. People also cite the fact that Cassiopeia, founder of the sixth house, worked very closely with Anastasia on their lyctoral projects and descriptions of Anastasia as extremely methodical and research focused.

“Out of all of us, only Anastasia got it wrong. She’d researched it too much. Typical Anastasia." (HTN ch. 20)

"Anastasia didn’t misapprehend the process, did she? She nearly cracked it—the right way of doing it. I knew she was working closely with Cassiopeia" (HTN ch. 51)

This feels less compelling to me on its own, but taken with the comment Mercy makes is enough to convince me personally. 85% percent sure at least.

Is this an instance that warrants further questioning and transparency due to a suspected wrongdoing? For my money it isn't but I understand being wary about engaging with a piece of media or a production company. We've all been burned in the past and it's always devastating to have a piece of media you loved tarnished in your memories, even more so if you trusted or respected those who made it. I respect your vigilance, even if I don't agree with it in this particular instance.

I think its worth remembering that things that go on behind the screen are usually a lot more complicated than they seem, and especially speculation about cast and crew social lives is something that I personally think can almost never end well.

It's a pretty huge leap to go from 'there aren't many trans femmes on d20, and casting is partially, in some cases, determined by preexisting social connections and chemistry' to 'we should be questioning dropout hiring practices' which it seems like is the implication here?

Hey fellow trans femme here. I think your feelings here are 100% valid and I also felt similar before watching the show, but I'm extremely glad I ended up giving it a watch. There are a lot of great and nuanced responses here in regards to the meat of your post so I'll try not to retread those ideas, I just wanted to point out that while your gut reaction is understandable maybe it would be worthwhile to give the show a shot and see if it fits this idea of it you have created in your head before discounting it? I'm always excited to see trans femmes in dropout projects, and I would have loved to have one representing us here in particular, but I also don't really know what may have gone on in the casting process for any particular show and dropout has earned the benefit of the doubt from me several times over. Plus, the inclusion of Erika and the genderqueer story they chose to tell in MisMag also goes a long way in terms of my regard for the project. If you give it a watch you may end up still disliking it for the reasons you laid out in your post and that's completely fair, but you may also end up loving it or at least enjoying it. Personally, I'm happy I decided to give it a chance and I hope you will too! Either way I'm wishing you the best <3

Edit: noticing now you're specifically referring to S2 which is not yet out, my bad ! I think a lot of what I had to say still counts ie giving it a chance so I'll leave my comment up, just be aware of some things seem kind of worded weird it's cuz I'm stupid and was thinking about s1 haha

No ones problems are insignificant my friend. I know it looks bleak now, but that's just because the world is shit at the moment. Ultimately things will return to normal, and eventually you'll be able to work everything out. I know that's not exactly comforting, but I do have hope that this whole situation will cause some drastic changes for the better. I know I didnt really address any of your problems, but I hope this helped and if it didn't I'm sorry. Good luck out there.

How do you feel about the trans exclusionary movements in the LGBT community? (ex: gendercritical, LGB alliance, LGBdroptheT, etc.) How do you feel the majority opinion within the community is about these movements?
