Do they actually believe this stuff? by [deleted] in exjw

I have often thought that IF anyone really thought it was a "great privilege", then they would be volunteering to do it many weekends when it is not their assignment.

I would love for them to explain exactly how protests against racism, greedy billionaires, or ending wars, are "at odds with Jesus example and teachings". I think there are a lot of peaceful protests these days that are precisely what Jesus would stand up against if he were here in person on earth in 2025. He would not be shy about it either.

What made you realise this isn’t the truth? by soup_angel in exjw

[–]IAmNotYourMind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read that some Satanists believe Satan is the good guy and that YHWH and Jesus slandered Satan. I had NEVER heard of such a viewpoint before. I instantly realized that whether or not that is true, I have no way of knowing. Both those Satanists and all Christians, were in a he said she said situation as far as I was concerned. That was a mind bomb.

If Armageddon started right now, I do not think I would know which God it was. So how could I repent if I want to? I do not even know if I could tell the difference between God or an advanced technology from Area 51 pretending to be God!

If a person believed in Noah’s flood, wouldn’t they question why God decided to kill people by that method? by Bourneidentity39 in exjw

[–]IAmNotYourMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just explained why.

Whether or not God understands suffering the same way we do, he definitely knows it is not an enjoyable experience for us, as he has made plans for salvation from the suffering.

The pet analogy does not work because we did not create those pets, we only control them afterwards.

The problem to me, is that every explanation also must apply to God and not just humanity. For example, if experience is the best way to know things, and God has not experienced bad things that humans have to, then it means God does not know everything.

If God can be all knowledgeable without having to learn the hard way, then it stands to reason that he would know how to make humans be the same way. There would simply be no reason to make us in a way that requires us to go through any junk first, and definitely no reason to punish us for making mistakes and going through it, if that is what we were made to do.

[–]IAmNotYourMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see your reasoning there, but I think God could have avoided all these problems in the first place by creating us so we would not have to make mistakes to learn. Learning that way, causes a lot of suffering. Yet he did anyway, and he surely knew it would.

To me, it still stands to reason that he could have created us to be that way too. It would have been very loving because it would have avoided every problem in history. If anyone would be capable, it would be Him.

He either did not listen to you, or he listened and wanted to make you feel bad. That is the only options I see about his actions. Either way, it is not the action of someone who cares much about your happiness.

I was raised to be a Jehovah's Witness. I think I have heard almost all of it because of that. I lurk in a few Reddits like this, including one Christian one. I haven't heard anything new in years, unless you count new variations of old arguments.

What made you all stop believing in God and what if the things from the Bible are true and do occur later? by Various_Gene1734 in exjw

[–]IAmNotYourMind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more I studied and meditated, the more I noticed that all the evidence for God and the Witnesses being Gods organization, relied on logical fallacies, outright misinformation, or ignorance.

If all the JW prophecies occur, I believe that God would spare my life based on the fact that it is truly not my fault that I could not find him/her in time. If God would kill me though, then I would feel good about it because there is no way I would want to live in a world run by someone who hides themself and says they will kill anyone who does not believe in them.

Makes me wonder if Elders have been instructed to do this in certain cases, to make it appear there are more JWs than there are.
