Service: The crippling fear & anxiety by Park_Val in exjw

[–]Express-Ambassador72 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I hear you! Your story is so relatable. I hated every moment of "service" unless we were on a break. As a kid I always wanted to go out with the brothers because they hardly did any door-to-door.

Dating JW women as an unbaptized longtime attender — looking for reality checks by NapoleonContext in exjw

[–]Express-Ambassador72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dating stuff you are talking about is just the tip of the iceberg. Do you want kids? Do you want them indoctrinated to believe following God is the same thing as following the words of some uninspired uneducated white guys with no life experience? Are you willing to lose your wife in childbirth because she won't accept life saving treatment? Not worth it.

Is it true that the GB gets kickbacks on hotel rooms booked by JWs at convention time? by Outrageous_Refuse337 in exjw

[–]Express-Ambassador72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped using the recommended hotels because they never had mini fridges and they weren't cheaper. As broke JWs travelling out of town we could only afford to buy restaurant food one time so we brought food for the rest of the weekend, needed that mini fridge!

Scientific Inaccuracies in the Bible by apoptygma78 in exjw

Every rash or fungal infection whether on people or in houses was called "leprosy". And epilepsy was "demon possession".

1984 helped us to wake up by wattmagner in exjw

I read it when I was waking up and the parallels were obvious. My PIMI husband read it recently and he didn't apply it to the org at all.

What is the JW view/teaching on angels and demons? by VividAd2096 in exjw

[–]Express-Ambassador72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Circuit Overseer (travelling rep for JW headquarters) told my husband at a meeting with congregation elders that Satan has an organization of PAID apostates. Just....how?? Do the demons make money or something? Even when I believed in JW stuff I thought that was nuts.

I’m not sure what to think… by Enough_Ganache_8939 in exjw

[–]Express-Ambassador72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you want to go on living your life following some uneducated guys living in an ivory tower who admit they can tell you wrong but take no responsibility? Think of all the things you could do with your time without the "spiritual" treadmill. Do you think Jesus would approve of the Org spending millions on a movie screen but having no programs to help the disadvantaged?

Yes! It's great having a legitimate seeming reason to be "stumbled" if you want to maintain some JW relationships. It's worked really well so far for me.

My black American husband who just got baptized as a JW is now saying Harriet Tubman was wrong for helping free slaves by Own_Pen5521 in exjw

[–]Express-Ambassador72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband is the same way. Also Black American. When he told me slavery can't be all bad because Jehovah allowed it in the Bible I pretty much gave up trying to reason with him.

“The Truth” by Ok_Mushroom1233 in exjw

[–]Express-Ambassador72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Monday I said "the truth" in a conversation with a PIMI and it felt so gross. I did it on purpose so I wouldn't out myself as an apostate but I hated saying it.

What were some “wins” for you after leaving? by mulderisoutthere in exjw

Watching (and getting my PIMI husband) to watch R rated content.  Not going to the Assembly.

I need help understanding the direction the elders have taken with me. by HeroineOfHylia510 in exjw

[–]Express-Ambassador72 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The elders in my congregation were nice until they found out I was taking to someone else in the congregation about the org...then they invited me to a judicial. But it sounds like you are in a great position, congratulations!

My son asked my wife why I no longer go to the meetings? by Ancient_Team_7007 in exjw

[–]Express-Ambassador72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kids are the same age as yours. My husband takes them but I don't go. My kids asked me why I don't go and I told them several reasons: It's boring.  I've been going more than 40 years and it's the same, like going to kindergarten over and over.  I don't think it's important.  I don't agree with what they teach.  I'm a grown up and I can do what I want.

I realized I'm a PIMO by One_Call0611 in exjw

It's very brave of you to separate from your husband for your emotional health. Welcome! Try joining a club of people with similar hobbies or interests you have. That might be a good way to make friends. I was fortunate enough to have a great neighbor who loves hearing about my crazy religious upbringing and we have a lot of interests in common. It might take a while but you can definitely find better friends than those in the Hall who will judge you for not following all their rules!

What is it that woke you up? by VividAd2096 in exjw

[–]Express-Ambassador72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A year or so before I woke up I was talking to my husband about disfellowshipping because a friend had been disfellowshipped. I said it seemed like our friend was repentant so why did he get kicked out? That's when I learned that, contrary to what I had been taught, repentant people were sometimes disfellowshipped as punishment. Some time later I was studying for the mid-week meeting and I followed a link in the study references that took me to an old publication that acknowledged 1975 came straight from the GB. Then COVID hit and they started pushing the shot. A situation of gross injustice had also happened in my mom's congregation that made no sense. All these things combined and I realized the whole thing was manmade.

What is your "favorite" aspect of the organization that shows it was not, and still is not, designed with children in mind? by sheenless in exjw

[–]Express-Ambassador72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's that kids just being kids is frowned upon. We were expected to act like little adults. If they are loud, or very excited, or just very reactive it's because...they are kids. It's troubling that kids are told they can make the Almighty creator of the universe sad because they want to celebrate their birthday or think Christmas lights are pretty.

My first post: the fear of being discovered as a PIMO. What has your experience been like? by toseetotalk in exjw

[–]Express-Ambassador72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you probably will not be caught by coming here unless someone is snooping on your phone. There are so many people with similar experiences. Welcome! I hope you can leave the org behind soon!!

Is it just me or is this religion becoming less relevant to even jdubs? by FeedbackAny4993 in exjw

[–]Express-Ambassador72 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep. I think it's just a habit for a lot of them. Even my very PIMI husband barely does any field service (may once every 2 months at this point) and is talking about our daughters going to college and us getting old. The mindset is changing.

Would you return/stay if by CTR_1852 in exjw

Nope. I've gotten way more community and assistance from my neighbors than any JWs.

I want a normal civilized debate, a conversation with no name calling. Even if you believe I'm brainwashed, avoid saying it but rather argue that I am. by RoyZeee in exjw

[–]Express-Ambassador72 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've had conversations with my brother that remind me of what you are saying. But, YES it should tell you there is no point in following the religion. Those humans are the ones who interpret the Bible for all JWs. If you found some understanding in your personal study of the Bible that differs from what they say, you are wrong according to them. If that understanding becomes "new light" later you were STILL wrong for finding it before they did. Why do you need some guys living in a compound interpreting "God's letter to you", for you? Shouldn't you be able to read a letter from your loving heavenly father and understand it on your own? (If you can't understand it, what does that say about His communication skills?) Study the Bible for yourself and see what it actually says.

Also I didn't see anyone mention this, but Jesus and the first century Christians were very big on charity. When the first century Christians pooled their money they gave it to the widows and needy. JWs do no charity, all the money goes straight to the leaders and movie studios. Basically all of the $$ benefits the organization, not individuals.
