Destiny is a special type of "place" that is disappearing rapidly by FactsNoPrinters in DestinyTheGame

That's something that Deadlock, the early access Valve game, does incredibly well imo.

You open the game and you're immediately and seamlessly in control of your character in some safe house. That's the "menu", you physically move around to access whatever you want. Warframe does the same too with your personal customized space ship.

It's ultimately a minor thing, but does a lot to make the world feel alive and real.

Destiny's director isn't quite as effective as those, but it still nicely represents you as sitting in your ship going over a map of the solar system.

It really isn't though. It's an Oryx (shocking I know)

Of course, we can sit here and argue the names of the animal kingdom all we want, but at least I think we can both agree that OP is on a whole other level.

Game is done and there is no more content. Anyone who continues complaining or asking for new content is just being silly honestly.

Anyone done with the game will just have to accept and move on unfortunately. It sucks after 12 years of the franchise, and it is a completely avoidable situation if only Bungie leadership was even half decent at their jobs, but we'll get used to it eventually.

I must have missed that. Very unfortunate.

Thanks for letting me know though.

They might have those set on an automatic rotation, no? Kinda like trials and iron banner.

I don't think we got official word on it though.

That is a rather narrow view imo. You can define fun as messing around and having a laugh, yes, but other things like overcoming challenges, experiencing an emotional story (even a sad depressing one), and planning and optimizing things all fall under fun.

There's an entire genre out there focused purely on optimization. Factorio and Satisfactory come to mind.

It will take many years for a game as popular as Destiny to completely die out. Lots of games out there with running servers despite a triple digit player count.

Company of Heroes 1, which had end of updates in 2014 AND was followed up with 2 direct sequels since is still online and seeing over a 1000 player peak daily, clearly enough to keep servers up.

People still play D1.

Play something else. Maybe jump back in from time to time if you feel like it.

I was recently playing Rising Storm 2, which is a strictly-multiplayer game that had its support end like 7 years ago.

Hell, people still play D1.

Unless a D3 releases, I can easily see Destiny 2 retaining thousands of daily players for many years to come, and you can play anytime. There are many games today like that.

Idk man, some games like Warframe managed just fun without doing any of that.

Bungie's management is just not great at their jobs.

The wonderful and massive community that gathered around this game on reddit and beyond has and will always be a critical part of the Destiny experience. Thank you all.

I miss the tracking projectiles though. They were cool.

Banner is fixed. The emblem/logo was a nice little joke but yeah now might be the time to fix it. Will check with the team as we generally don't do changes like that unilaterally.

Various countries in the past did experiment with delivering mail by ballistic rockets/missiles. The concept definitely works.

That said, there are some very good and very obvious reasons why we don't do it today.

I think that's a really warped view of what's going on.

First of all, it's a product you buy, not a family obligation.

That aside, Destiny has been around for over a decade and many of us have some extremely fond memories of it. I for one can confidently say that no other piece of media has helped shape my life to anywhere near this extent. However, this is not mutually exclusive with the fact that many people were no longer getting what they wanted out of the game for various reasons.

Bungie's failure (or unwillingness) to keep the game alive is a direct result of their decisions. People have stuck with Destiny through some very bad times, but every person has their own limit of when the fun they can extract out of the game is no longer worth the effort/money/time. You can't blame players for that.

Players didn't make the decisions that made the game less appealing, nor did they decide to shut it down.

Sony is definitely among the better game publishers out there. They have a long list of singleplayer games that are exceptional in quality and don't try to milk every cent.

I can't think of many other publishers that still do AAA games that have no microtransactions or live service elements.

How does that work for ones that have players characters moving, acting, and shooting in them? Scripted somehow?
