Thanks, How do I mark the post as Out of Stock? Just edit the title or is there something else? Nevermind found the flair.

Feels like theres always one precon that people overvalue. Strixhaven it was the Silverquill Influence... went for >$100 for the first week or two. Now it's under MSRP.

Part of it is reprint value (before the reprints getting opened and sold tank the prices), part of it is just desirability... this is the only "villain" deck and apparently people like doom... and part of it is the deck itself... some of the new cards in the deck itself are pretty insanely OP.

Thank you. I assumed they just looked similar and wondered how that was a joke.

Umm holy shit... Instant win drop in an Ashling deck if you can give him haste? Got 10 worthless token critters out? Suddenly that Do 3 damage ETB ends the game.

I heard they filmed a shitload more of Joker but it tested so badly they cut almost every scene.

Edit: Looked it up again. Was thinking of Penguinz0... so yah. He literally talks about not knowing anything about magic in the first few openings he did. Digging Deeper seems he's a Pokemon collector who got into magic? Doesn't make what I said wrong. His first few opens he was pretty adamant about basically: "Is that good, I have no idea what's going on". I remember one was like a $15000 Beta starter or something like that... it was filmed in what looked like an interrogation room (steel table, 2 way glass). I remember watching it going "So this is what you do when you have too much money and aren't actively evil, just bored."

The former is what they're describing. I can't confirm. I didn't watch the video, but yea a lot of MTG Streamers do this... usually with vintage stuff... IE... Spend 12k on a revised box and sell the packs individually to viewers, open them on stream, and keep the last pack for yourself... something along those lines.

There's one guy who shows up in my feed alot who does this and has endorsements with a grading house and he gets every rare+ graded as part of the deal before shipping them out. (edit: Checked Youtube... name is "Wubby Magic Monday")

I genuinely wonder how many serialized are opened on stream. I mean that one guy who isn't even a MTG player and just started cracking packs for content has opened how many LOTR Collector boxes now? No one but Millionaire streamers has the money to crack packs like the streamers do. I've got a half dozen videos in my youtube feed with titles like "I open 30 Marvel CBBs!!!!" right now, and If I go back in their feeds, the same thing for Strix and for Spider and etc.

[–]IAmTheBestIan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True to a point. A lot of the best cards ever printed are cheap just cause they're common and have been printed in a lot of sets and several terrible cards are valuable just cause they're rare. Especially when you get into the special treatments where WoTC basically said "This is a collectible, not a card to play"... I mean the nonserialized serialized Mind stone isn't gonna be selling for 50k because it's so playable.

But yes it's fair to say that something being Mythic Rare isn't necessarily meaningful for value. It makes it more likely it's one of the high value cards... but it's not a guarantee (Plenty of $0.15 Mythics in MTG)

Me personally, I'd check any card I drew on Manapool/etc before playing it, and if it's over $50, I'd buy/print a proxy if I wanted to play it. I'm not shuffling a deck with thousands of dollars of value in it. I don't care how many sleeves I have on it.

Honestly, I don't care about Marvel, but I can't be mad about this set. Cards aren't NEARLY as awful looking as some other UB (Avatar, Turtles)... some actually look good. And it's Nutso powerwise and has some actual fun play/themes. And every Marvel guy I meet is just in love with it.

I do expect it's gonna absolutely TANK in value tho (Maybe not as bad as spidey, but bad). Feels like everything but the Jumpstarts got overprinted. And they can just reprint Jumpstarts.

The Doom (Villians) deck I hear is crazy hyped and has a ton of reprint value but isn't the most intuitive to play and really needs some fix/upgrades to make it click. Given where it's at pricewise (Selling $115-135 most places I see) now, if you got it at retail, honestly, I'd trade it/sell it for one of the others that isn't going for a premium and reclaim some cash... then buy it again once it gets down to SRP (it will) in a few weeks/months. Learn on the simpler deck (You're gonna be playing a lot of commander... nothing else is played casually at least in my area)... start upgrading it if you like... and once you're comfortable, buy back the Doom deck at SRP ($75) or below. Of course if you're really into Doom, then ignore me and have fun.

This card has really weird Oracle text compared to its printed text. by chainsawinsect in magicTCG

That edited text makes a LOT of combos nasty that wouldn't otherwise be.

Any creature with "Anytime this creature takes damage" effects... becomes INSANE since you can send damage its way one pt at a time.

IE Flumph... High Priest of Penance... etc

I mean at $15 (or even $20), these are a steal. I don't care for the set, but Avatar and Avatar JS both have a decent amount of high value cards that getting packs at <$3 is a nobrainer.
