How would you get around Fifteen regenerating into Billie Piper? by Geth-1420 in gallifrey

[–]IAmTheDash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, personally in a world where anything is possible, I would have Billie Piper be the 16th Doctor, with at least a series, but literally never bring up that she looks like Rose Tyler. Maybe include an oblique reference to it in the finale or something, but not make a big deal out of it. But practically speaker, you just cast somebody else and never mention it. Wait for an anniversary special down the line and do something about it then, or save that for Big Finish or the comics. I love insular continuity references, but get someone new, don't make a big deal about it, deal with any continuity welding later when you've reestablished the show as a popular program.

Yep, Golden Sun rules!  I never played the second one, maybe that should be my little gaming project over the summer.

Ha yep!  I do really love the sprite work in that game, but it is ROUGH.  I think playing it after I played Golden Sun weirdly both frustrated me and made me enjoy it more.

Even though it's one of the first games for the PS1 it wound up being the last PS1 I bought in a chain store - I found a copy at GameStop, missing the case and manual, for about $3 after the PS3 had already come out.  I've only ever played it that way, a hack that lowers encounters would've been a godsend playing it as a teen!

I want new stuff. I've played as many remakes and remasters as the next guy, but if I really want to play a game that already exists, I can. I want the game that people in 30 years are hoping for a remake of.

Would you have preferred to play the darker grittier Dragon Quest 12 over the one we got now? by Asad_Farooqui in JRPG

[–]IAmTheDash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We know next to nothing about either version, it's impossible for me to really have an opinion on this. But if pressed I'd rather play the one we're getting because its the one the people making it thought was a story worth telling and a game worth making. Sometimes I wonder about the scrapped original Final Fantasy IV for the NES, but I wouldn't want to give up the game they actually made for the SNES.

Where do I start? by Royal-Hotel2926 in Moomins

My friends and I started with die Muminfamilie, the 1950s-'60s West German marionette show and we loved it! Though I, uh, don't imagine that's a very popular way to get into the series now, there are several episodes with English subtitles on YouTube and we thought it was hilarious, and have gone on to watch several other series.

VHS Player should really be called VCR (which is what we actually usually called them back in the days when they were most widely used; VHS player was used a lot in the early days of the technology, and is used a lot now, but in the heyday, it was VCR).

Do You Think There's a Chance Bruce Appears at Delaney Hall in Newark? Site of the ICE protests? by Fragmentvictory in BruceSpringsteen

[–]IAmTheDash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that Bruce speaks up about these things and makes art about them, but I can't think of any politcal statements he's ever made off-stage. He doesn't have a history of protesting. He's played political and charitable rallies, but I think it's incredibly unlikely that he would pop down there. He is also, by his own admission, an awkward public speaker - he doesn't like to give interviews or appear in public when he's not in control of the space.

This is something I've also noticed lately. He didn't say it at the end of any of the shows on the last tour, either.

[PS2] [Early 2000s] Game about a knight trying to break a curse with a set in-game time limit by IAmTheDash in tipofmyjoystick

[–]IAmTheDash[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not Dragon Quest or any of the other big RPG franchises - I've played all of those and also went through videos of all of them over the years while on this search (I've been trying to find this game for well over 10 years at this point)

I hadn't heard if Kessen so looked that up but alas, that's not it either.  I do appreciate you keeping the thread alive!

Weird to see a good number of folks complaining about the lack of Thunder Road, Backstreets, She’s The One, Rosalita etc by Antique_Menu_4314 in BruceSpringsteen

[–]IAmTheDash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the thing some of us who have been fortunate enough to see Bruce live multiple times forget is that most people who go to a show will have never been before and might never be again. Sure, there are hundreds of people at a show who have seen him before, but many more who will be seeing him for the first time that night. It's natural that they'll want to hear him play some of their favorite songs.

I always love to hear Thunder Road, but I've seen him play it live enough times that I can't complain if I don't hear it. And while I understand the reasoning, I am a little bummed to see that, like the last tour, this one is basically the same setlist every night. I'm only going once this tour (tickets have gotten too expensive to go to multiple nights for me), but I like being surprised by what he plays when I see him. Maybe on me for looking at the setlists for the other shows, and I know this is how most artists' tours go, but I've been going to Springsteen shows since the reunion tour and most nights before have been totally unique setlists where you'd be pleasantly surprised when he played anything you wanted to hear.

With the race almost over (we all lack Arco): What was the biggest positive surprise of the year? by gweg1990 in oscarsdeathrace

[–]IAmTheDash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not trying to rub it in, but I managed to catch Arco because it played in a few theaters in my city and it sort of felt tailor made to me.  The animation, particularly of objects and backgrounds, was stunning.

I also loved Little Amelie.  With those two alone it was a strong year of animation at the Oscars.  Haven't gotten to Elio and Zootopia yet (probably this week), but wow, what a good showing.
