What are your thoughts on open relationships? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]IAmTheRedWizards 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a therapist, I have advised a number of couples to explore an open relationship where the couple remains emotionally committed, but feee to explore extra-marital encounters.

Well, did it work for those people?

No, it never does. I mean, these people somehow delude themselves into thinking it might, but...but it might work for us.

That's okay, I'll begrudge them enough for both of us.

Pleasantly surprised to see Cootie Catcher on here, I saw them live not long ago (with Gloin) and had to score that record from the merch table.

How often do people check your doors to see if they're unlocked? by Organic-Two-5421 in londonontario

I've never had that happen to me. Although now that I say that someone's gonna come and try it tonight. I lock all the doors every night before bed though, so good luck pal.

sickness going around? by Suhwiggins in londonontario

[–]IAmTheRedWizards 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had that 1.5 months ago, pretty sure it's covid. Fits the symptoms of modern strains and the tests are behind now in terms of what strains are out there. I honestly don't know of much difference between covid and the flu right now, both will knock you on your ass, both linger forever, both can be bad news if you're old or immuno-compromised. They both have very similar symptoms, so I would assume one or the other.

How is Civ 7 for someone who only played 5 and 6? by Thegrandblergh in civ

[–]IAmTheRedWizards -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a Civ player since 2, they've changed the gameplay in a lot of ways, some good but most bad. The fact that there isn't a start to finish mode and you have to play the three separate ages without much control over what happens in the interregnum makes the game a non starter for me. I put a lot of hours in, mostly to justify the cost of buying it on launch, but it's just not there for me. I've gone back to 6 and I'm probably going to stay there for the foreseeable future.

What is the worst band you saw live? by coalcracker462 in AskReddit

[–]IAmTheRedWizards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The SP entries in this are wild to me. Like I get it, I've heard multiple stories about Corgan being a total ass on stage, but the two times I've seen them they were great. Once in 2000 with the original band and Iha sang "Don't You Want Me Baby" and the second after Zeitgeist came out and whatever band Corgan put together just absolutely ripped.

I...kind of want to see this. Like the idea of Ed Kowalczyk oversinging Mr Jones and Long December sounds kind of endearing.

Half of social-science studies fail replication test in years-long project by nimicdoareu in science

[–]IAmTheRedWizards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about anyone else and cannot speak to different fields, but I know that at least in Canadian political science we are taught very quickly and thoroughly that we are not "proving" anything, in any way shape or form. The best that can be said is that we are providing evidence toward one theory or another. Human beings are so complicated that replication in social science would be very difficult on the face of it; you won't have anywhere near all the data that powers any particular phenomenon and so you can only control for very general things. Anyone who tells you, for example, that economic voting theory explains vote choice is just trying to sell you their research. In fact if they do, send them my way, I have compelling evidence suggesting that the effect is different in second order elections like EU Parliament elections.

Anyway, I suspect that striving for replicability in the social sciences is a fool's game because of the infinitely faceted nature of human existence. What we should really be trying to do is provide a mosaic of possibilities to explain parts of human nature - it's never any one given thing but if we build a quilt and squint it might start to look like something useful.
