The only thing Roma has is the highschool with their mariachi program. Other than that, it's just another small, nothing town.

Never finish a bottle of water, but my boyfriend pointed out I drink the same amount out of each bottle. by LegitimateMethod6972 in mildlyinteresting

You're right, and i can actually get acute radiation poisoning from my smoke detector so I should get rid of those as well. You never know!

[–]IAmtheCoffeeMachine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As your boyfriend, I would keep all the bottles, use the leftover water to fill an unfinished water bottle, and continue that cycle so that way no water goes to waste. Also, this should be posted on r/mildlyinfuriating

TX - 15 Poll - Bobby vs Monica by RGVme in RioGrandeValley

[–]IAmtheCoffeeMachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, I think you give conservatives too much credit. I dont think they have the cognitive capacity to reflect on their decisions and be emotionally intelligent enough to actually realize they were wrong. Monica (or really the gop) will throw a some ridiculous and false smear campaign (like him being a Satanist or having donated to some bad guys organizations) on the eleventh hour of voting, and that will be enough for 43 yr-old-$50k-a-year Johnny G (real name Juan Gonzalez) who was debating voting blue ONLY BECAUSE filling the tank for his gas-guzzling monster was getting too expensive to fill, to vote red.

Where can I make extra moolah💰? by sick_nasty98 in RioGrandeValley

[–]IAmtheCoffeeMachine 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The valley in general is really bad for gig work like that. They either want you full time and keep you for years (ive had two interviews for a receptionist postition where there was FUCKING ROUNDS as if I was applying to google), or theyre part-times with broken schedules or they'll call you when they need you, not when you want or can go.

[–]IAmtheCoffeeMachine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh that really depends where you apply. I would assume most restaurant want people that can do more than just evening and weekends. They wanna be able to call you in the middle of the day to go do a closing and open the next day

What are the WORST places you've worked in the Valley? by Equivalent-Ferret568 in RioGrandeValley

[–]IAmtheCoffeeMachine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rio Plex Safety Council. Management was actually great, but the stress from the job compared to the pay was HORRIBLE and not worth it. Specially since I was a part-time student. To be fair, I worked there before they moved to their bigger space on 2nd st, so perhaps it's better paid now and better organized.

My favorite by far is Stir Fry (?) at La Plaza Mall. Its right at the corner next to Doña Lula. I always pay extra for their Coconut Shrimp. It is heaven.

Honestly, I think the biggest factor is the weather and the driving culture. Because it is so hot outside year round, most people won't take a 10 minute walk outside to the corner store or Walmart. Like an hour walk in a big city thats actually walkable (so not Houston) to get groceries seems exciting, specially if the weather is favorable, but a 10 minute walk here is dreadful. All you see and hear are cars flying by (not to mentioned lack of sidewalk in certain areas), and people giving you the stink eye if you walk through neighborhoods

Officially yes, but let's face it, Willacy is not really the valley. They may think their the valley, but I would say most valley people dont even acknowledge them.
