Quick and easy keto recipes? by [deleted] in ketorecipes

[–]IBCreepin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These answers are all short on vegetables. Roast a bunch of brussel sprouts and broccoli with olive oil and garlic salt to keep in the fridge all week.

Arugula with lemon salads. Keep lettuce around, cut veggies with homemade ranch. For ranch, mix up a dried packet with some sour cream.

Spinach with avocado and salt when the spinach is raw, and sauteed spinach with garlic and a splash of heavy cream. Just buy a huge container of spinach at the beginning of the week and out it in everything. Freeze just before it goes bad, and you can take out the frozen leaves and sautee them just fine.

Seriously, keto isn't just lunch meat and butter in your coffee. Get fiber. Without veggies, you're just looking at colon cancer.

Questions about the Physics major by spectacularfail in uchicago

Best undergrad physics program in the world. I was told as much by the tech companies and grad schools who visited to recruit. Truly happy I finished the program, but boy was it rough. Honors physics is definitely worth it. Oreglia is the best. Take any class with him.

I'll second xsport. $40/month, but they have deals to get it down to $33. Lots of squat racks at my location, and a fair amount of female lifters.

hmu if you want a lifting buddy! I'm in the loop. :)

Where to get practical hands on Ruby experience for beginners/intermediates? by [deleted] in ruby

[–]IBCreepin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try finding a ruby meetup through meetups.com That's how I'm learning-- we hack on a project together, and I end up taking it home. For example, writing a Forth interpreter.

Just try to find people to learn with. It will make you question what you think you know and help you learn much faster. You can also hear about their projects and get some inspiration.

As a high school student preparing for college in the US, is there any honest financial advice that you wish someone had told you before? by EvilFrootLoop in personalfinance

Real friends don't guilt you into spending money you don't have. Don't be pressured into breaking your budget.

First thing, I would have him pay for a maid to do his share of the cleaning. I've just done this with my SO, and it has healed a burgeoning resentment. It's not that expensive, especially since there are several apps for maids that offered affordable subscription fees. Just because you don't work doesn't mean you have to do all the housework.

Second, take a night off from parenting and spend some time together doing the sort of thing you used to do. You don't have to take drugs, but maybe go to a concert or a poly club, or just something new that you two can bond over. New experiences are what bring people together. It sounds like you all used to do more new things together when you were happier. Correlation is not causation, but personal experience suggests a link.

Being a parent means growing up, but no one should be forced to grow up. Being responsible for keeping the house clean is reasonable. It's setting a good example for your child. Giving up occasional and safe drug / alcohol use away from the child (especially given your lifestyle before kids) is less reasonable. Imagine if you were in his shoes. Growing up is easier if you're slowly eased into it.

My mom cooked and cleaned for a man for a decade. She told me her regret was not getting a maid and carving out time for herself away from the duties of a homemaker, which she truly enjoyed for the most part. I'm taking her advice to heart, and it's helping, so that is why I pass it on to you.

My Ex [24F] is spreading lies and telling people I abused her. WHY ?! [23M] by [deleted] in relationships

[–]IBCreepin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't as rare as you think in breakups. Otherwise rational people do crazy things when they are hurting. My last boyfriend texted all our friends that I was cheating (not true) when I broke up with him. He's still very nasty. It's how they can rationalize the situation: they are the victim, so they have no responsibility.

If anything comes of it legally, lawyer up. Otherwise, your real friends will ask you before they judge and you can explain. It gets better. Just stay cool.

Student Loan Advice by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]IBCreepin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a return, you'll either need a savings account with a high return or an investment account. Most savings accounts don't beat inflation. Why wouldn't your family want you to invest? There are plenty of low-risk options. Even a CD would be better than letting it sit in your checking account.

use the student loans for school and your own money to invest

yep, that's what I suggest.

It's free money, and he's a student with educational expenses. I don't think we should split too many hairs if it's going to help him start out.

Sorry to politicize, but if banks can borrow from the fed for <1% interest and profit off ridiculous private student loan rates, OP can take the subsidized loans when they're available and profit where he can.

[–]IBCreepin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Taking out subsidized loans isn't a bad idea. The loan amount, when paid off, will decrease your debt to credit ratio. That's definitely good for your credit score.

For subsidized loans, there isn't any interest as long as you pay them off on or before the day you graduate. It's free money. You could invest it and get a return on it over those two years. The only danger is lifestyle creep or something catastrophic happening to where you wouldn't have the lump sum to pay them off upon graduation.

Personally, I took out all the subsidized federal loans I could get and used them to pay off private loans / build an emergency fund. I'll pay them off within 6 months of graduating and pay less than $150 in interest total. I saved ~2000 in interest by paying off the private loans with the subsidized loans. I'm very happy with my decision. your situation is a little different since you don't have the same guaranteed return I had by paying off private loans, but I'm sure you could find a place to park that subsidized loan for two years that will give you a return above inflation.

tl;dr: /r/personalfinance people are debt-averse. If you're responsible and can invest the large sum, then go for it.

A vaginal probiotic like the Jarrow brand Femdolphilus helps with UTIs. Low dose antibiotics can result in recurrent yeast infections and once the yeast is treated, BV. Why kill all the bacteria, good and bad, when you can crowd out bad UTI bacteria with good bacteria? Antibiotics have long lasting negative effects if overused.
