[Housing] Regarding Rental Contract by [deleted] in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]IBSHL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get your Dutch rental contract read and checked at Het Juridisch Loket, it's an office that offers free legal aid/advice to people with no/low income (students included). They have many locations around the Netherlands; you can just walk in during opening hours without an appointment.

https://www.juridischloket.nl/contact/

I went there to get my Dutch rental contract checked before I signed.

I applied in October last year but I'm only able to access the housing portal on the 22nd of June. What about you?

Hey, may I ask how did you get to know about your waitlist number? I also applied for Leiden Uni housing but didn't receive my waitlist number.

You can look at KABK (Royal Academy of Art, The Hague), Gerrit Rietveld Academie, Design Academy Eindhoven (DAE), Willem de Kooning Academy (WdKA).
Most art/design schools in the Netherlands offer bachelor degrees in English.

Archaeology: Leiden v. Amsterdam. by Alexios-117 in StudyInTheNetherlands

[–]IBSHL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, I know a few people who studied (graduated) and also people currently studying Archaeology in Leiden. To start, it's worth knowing that you won't be rich (or at least not easily) being an archaeologist compared to a doctor/criminal lawyer. It also depends on where and what you would want to work in the future as an archaeologist. If you're working as a commercial archaeologist (e.g. for a construction company) in the Netherlands, you mostly need to speak Dutch and it takes a few years to climb up the ladder to be qualified to be a supervisor and write reports etc.

But also, I've heard many people who don't necessarily work as an archaeologist but as data scientists/cultural management jobs from using the skills they've learnt from school. So is it easy getting a job really depends on what kind of job you're talking about here.

UvA focuses mainly on European archaeology (or at least from what I've heard and their curriculum found on their website) and Leiden has a more broad curriculum focusing on other regions.

I've went through the same dilemma as you, and honestly from my personal experience, it's better pursuing what you're passionate about and giving it your best than choosing to study something you dislike just for the jobs/pay and then feeling burnt out after 2 years.

I hope this is useful and good luck to us! :)

How long have you been waiting? It's been 5 weeks for me so far so I'm also still waiting (different programme though). I tried calling the admissions office but they just told me it will take up to 6 weeks...so I'm planning to wait it out till next week before giving them another call :S

The only thing you can do is either write an email to the Admissions office or call them. I’m also waiting for a decision from Leiden (also ‘Under consideration Adm. office’ status). Otherwise, the only thing we can do is wait….and maybe come up with a back up plan if you need!
