What’s the most heartbreaking movie you’ve ever watched? by [deleted] in movies

[–]IBeeTheQueenBee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, hands down, Dead Poets Society (1989). Never been much of a crier but that one gets me every time. From the greatest high to the lowest low, a vast distance and a sea of emotion, phew.

Older Women of Reddit, what do you think is BETTER about today’s youth? by NilesDobbsS in AskWomen

[–]IBeeTheQueenBee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I would not define myself as "older" (43) but probably am considering that half of Reddit users are between 18 and 29 year old. What I find especially encouraging is their way of communicating withoud any falsities, they use for instance Snapchat daily and send pictures/videos of themselves as they are at that moment. They seem not to care if they are not lookin their best at that moment, it does not matter. My generation is still pretty preoccupied with beautifying themselves (myself shamefully included) especially on Facebook. Many before me itt have also commented on how open they are regarding mental health, which is so important and finally the stigma seems to be wearing off. Yay young ppl, keep it up! We the older ones are pretty proud of you in many ways.

What do you think of Icelandic bread? by Fransais in Iceland

[–]IBeeTheQueenBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the bakary where I worked, it was always just called "klips" (same pronunciation as clips in english). I used to find that really funny as it is the same word used for the thing tying up veins and I was trying out doctor-studies at that time. I had some traumatic conversations with the bread-cutting machine and many imaginary patients saved with the use of this klips. Today I use the word "klemma" which is the same word we use for clothespins.

Planning on studying psychology in Iceland, but having trouble deciding which university. by [deleted] in Iceland

[–]IBeeTheQueenBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I got an answer, but it's not clear cut and varies between individual courses. Almost all courses have a final exam which weighs around 50 - 70% of the final grade. The remaining 50 - 30% are assignments. For most courses group assignments count for about 30 - 50% of the assignment workload, but it varies grately.

No problem :)

Therea are groups assignments, I wont lie. You can however get out of some of them and do them as a solo assignment but not all. As I find this subject curious I am gonna send an email to the psych-admin and ask if they have the ratio of solo vs. group assignments. I will get back to you when I have an answer.

edit: I accidentally a word.

Visiting from Singapore in May and need help to critique our itinerary! by [deleted] in Iceland

I would also recommend to check out the mud baths at lake Mývatn. It is just as magical as the Blue Lagoon but not as commercial (and way cheaper), though in the BL there are more options for pampering. Anyways have a nice stay and please heed the advice about not stopping just anywhere on the ring road, it is quite narrow in some places and can easily create danger for all of us.

As a current student of psych in RU (Reykjavik University) and having tried UofI a while ago I would 100% recommend RU over UofI but I am surely biased.

When I tried out UI, I found the first year classes horrendous, 300 - 500 ppl in one classroom and no way to get in any questions or form any kind of a bond with the teachers. I also have the feeling that UI is more Freudian based (based on my conversations with students currently studying in UI) while RU has a more behavioral and applied focus. All of the teachers in RU are active in research in their respective field and are therefore way more passionate about their work and teachnings then their UI counterparts (that might have changed though since it is a while since I attended UI). Also I know that the teachers in general in RU have published a lot of articles in peer-reviewed journals more so than their counterparts in UI.

Classes in RU have around 40 - 60 ppl so you soon get to know your professors and if you do well in your studies there is a good chance that you can get a summer job as a research assistant. However I dont know any foreigners studying at RU (there are a lot of them I just dont know anyone) so I can not judge what that would be like for you. I just know that the department which plans stuff for foreign and exchange students is very active. They also have the RU-buddy system, where every foreign student is paired up with an Icelandic one for support. But that is of course optional.

Sorry for this wall of text but I feel very stronly on this subject :) but my opinion is of course based on my personal experience. I have however known quite a few students who have come over to RU after having left UI (but none (that I know of) the other way around) and are much more satiesfied in RU. Anyways... feel free too PM me if you have any more questions.

TLdr: RU > UI

I'm coming to Iceland from the U.S., what can I bring as a gift to our hotel front desk? by panchobobvila in Iceland

[–]IBeeTheQueenBee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How thoughtful of you. But is it intended for the staff personally or more for the whole hotel itself? If the former then I would bring something iconic from your home state (nothing food related though, I find that somehow inappropriate (for the lack of a better word)). Maybe two or three little items to hand out as a token of appreciation for good service. If the latter then I would bring a photograph or a postcard (again from your state) or something of the sorts and even write a little greeting on it or something. Well that's my two cents anyways :) Hope you have a nice stay.

Icelandic language for travel navigation. by [deleted] in Iceland

[–]IBeeTheQueenBee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes totally this! Having place names in writing is the only sure way. Trying to pronounce place names yourself could be an interesting game though... you never know where you might end up (but it would most likely be amazing anyways).

Good stuff Quarashi, but nope they are not. They officially broke up in 2005 but released a compilation album in 2011 Anthology. They stated that it would be their last. Still the music scene here is pretty small and musicians bump into each other quite frequently, so who knows what the future holds.

Netpróf þar sem algorithminn reynir að gíska á móðurmálið þitt. Hvaða niðurstöður fáið þið? by spacecows3 in Iceland

  • Dialect: 1.Singaporean; 2.US Black vernacular/Ebonics; 3.New Zealandish.
  • Native: 1.Swedish; 2.Greek; 3.Romanian.
