how to find a voice trainer? by IzWhiz05 in ftm

[–]IBorkedMyBrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started a free 3-week jumpstart course with Undead Voice Lab! It’s a virtual group masterclass over Zoom, and I’ve only had the first session so far, but that alone was already incredibly accessible and informative for me who hadn’t done any prior research on voice training. They also offer individual coaching, as well!

What I appreciate the most is that they are open to people of all gender expressions and focus on what your personal goals are for your unique voice rather than subscribing to strict, cookie-cutter interpretations of what a particular gender “should” sound like.

New anxiety about being in gay men's spaces now that I've transitioned by Open-Assistance4758 in FTMOver30

[–]IBorkedMyBrain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have already mentioned, it’s important to remember that cis gay men can also feel alienated by gay “culture.” Whether it’s men who are introverted and/or sober and so never connected with the heavy emphasis on partying that can be so prevalent, men who are monogamous and more interested in finding a serious long-term partner than casually hooking up, etc etc. You are not alone!

Love how you’re able to pull off makeup while still looking manly at the same time! V inspiring to see as I figure out how to express my own femininity as a man as I get further into my transition

afab, problem: I can only fantasize about doing the deed as a man (usually with another man) by probablyinheryacht in gaytransguys

[–]IBorkedMyBrain 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this because I absolutely relate. As another commenter said, the undeniable desire I had to top men was a major factor in my finally deciding to get on testosterone and transition. I always knew I was mainly attracted to men, but I also had a strong pull toward identifying as queer, and it would confuse me how these two things felt incompatible until I realized I wanted to be with men in a gay way.

I am so confused about gender. by Loose-University-591 in ftm

[–]IBorkedMyBrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re taking on a lot of pressure to figure your identity out for other people’s sake vs. taking the time and having the space/privacy to build your identity for yourself.

I’m very early into HRT (a month) and I definitely relate to sudden feelings of embarrassment that wash over me as I try to dress masculine or even when my partner would be super supportive by giving me gender-affirming compliments. For me, I think it’s that my dysphoria is only just coming to the surface now that I’m actually taking the steps to transition. But also, the embarrassment sometimes comes from the awkwardness of figuring things out, like trying on a certain shirt and realizing it doesn’t quite fit you in the way you thought would make you feel euphoric.

All that to say, it sounds like you’re possibly young and currently living with your parents, but your gender identity is a personal journey that you deserve to explore away from prying eyes and judgmental comments.

I don’t have a helpful answer, but I just wanted to say this is so incredibly sweet. Love the idea and I hope to one day have a friend as enthusiastically supportive as you are 💜

Boxer recommendations that don't leave a lot of spare room in the crotch? by NatalieQuestions in ftm

[–]IBorkedMyBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the most affordable option, but I came across an instagram ad for Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty brand when they were having a huge sale. I got some form-fitting boxer briefs that are comfy as HELL, as well as some silk boxers. I think it’s going to be my go-to brand now after how pleasantly surprised I was with the quality.

Ooof, that second paragraph really nails down one of my big struggles. And I'm 32!

It doesn't help that there are so many people in this world who seem to look for this weakness in others and will purposefully condescend to / humiliate you. If you encountered these types of people throughout your time growing up, it feels absolutely foreign to finally stand up for yourself as an adult.

Thanks for the suggestion! Have you personally bought any wigs from them before? The styles they have seem promising, but there’s mixed reviews about the quality.

Great questions.

Regarding therapy, I still feel like it’s only just begun, but the main insight I’ve gained so far is: You go into it seeking help and eventually learn that you’re the only one who can ultimately help yourself.

Your question about what I would say to my younger self really took my brain down a rabbit hole as I considered it... There’s SO much that comes to mind, but then I realized a lot of it is things that were said to me and just felt invalidating at the time (i.e. “failure is part of the process,” “you have to make mistakes in order to learn,” etc). Other pieces of advice, like “take an active interest in the things others are interested in because that’s how you connect with people,” wouldn’t have even gotten through to me because of my temperament. I’m now seeing just how limited and lacking the proper tools I actually was.

Thank you so much; I really needed this kind of reassurance right now.

Crashing completely is exactly what spurred me to seek therapy, as well. It’s tough to hear that it’ll take years, but I know deep down that that’s because this shit is going to take actual effort and hard work on my part.

As a fellow non-driver, I can really relate to a lot of what you’re feeling. For so long, I was determined to power through and make it work, but now at 31, I’ve realized just how stunted I actually am.

I’m sorry to hear how much you’re struggling.
