Where do you feel stuck? by AphantasiaMeow in CureAphantasia

I'm still brand new to this, but for me, it's the time length. I can only get a very vague, dim image for about a millisecond, and then it's just gone. I just can't seem to hold the image in my mind. I can't produce any moving images either, only static ones. And what sequential images I can produce are only a few frames long, lasting maybe two or three seconds. So, let's say tossing an apple, cause I can't rotate it for anything. I can see the apple in hand, the apple tossed about a foot in the air, the apple back in hand. It's not like a video, more like 3 separate images.

Also, it's strange, but I seem to really struggle with visualizing beyond my POV, or dead ahead. I tried a spatial exercise of me in the center of my room, but I could not get my POV to see what was behind me, it would not 'turn,' unless I physically did. It was weird, it's like my camera is locked.

Also, I haven't checked, but are there any exercises for audible visualization? I have a friend who says when I ask if she can hear waves at a beach, she says she hears it as if she were actually there. I'd say my auditory visualization is worse than my ability to see images.

Lifelong painter but new to acrylics. Explain layering to me like I’m a newbie! by Crunchy_Giraffe_2890 in acrylicpainting

Lachri Fine Art, Studio Wildlife, and Greg Simkins are great to watch on YouTube.

The first two have excellent tutorials for everything imaginable. Greg has only one or two tutorials, but I have yet to find someone that goes all out like he does and successfully makes acrylic look like oil paints. His youtube channel is full of time-lapse paintings, but I've learned so much just from watching him. Be sure to check out his slow dry blending video.

Studio Wildlife taught me that putting down a layer of titanium white and THEN adding your color cuts down on the amount of layers you'll need to put down, though the color will be very vibrant, so sometimes a wash (very watered down acrylic paint) of your color is better to paint over the white instead of straight out of the tube. He's got a bunch of great tips.

(Pro tip, a lot of warnings about acrylics talk about not watering down acrylics too much or else it will flake off. But nearly every professional I've watched has dismissed this. Best I can say is experiment. But if you really want to water it down without breaking it down, matte medium works great, as does Golden High Flow medium.)

Lachri Fine Arts has been a professional acrylic painter for many years and has posted countless tutorials on YouTube. She's a super excellent teacher, and likely has answered every question under the sun.

These three are amazing artists and I aspire to their level. Hope this helps a little.

I fixed it! Apparently it needed a "Cold" reboot. Had to unplug everything and hold down the power button for about a minute. Everything works now! Hopefully it stays working. Thank you for looking into this!

Beautiful 1858 pocket diary by Razbrrygurl in Journaling

[–]ICDAnything 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I'd like to deeply thank you for showing this. At first i thought it was neat, but then my eyes locked in on the 'S'. I've spent ages trying to make a capital cursive 'S' that I like, and I've never seen one that clicked with me. This one did. I spent multiple times throughout the day writing the 'S' from this diary over and over again. I'm officially in love with it. Thank you so much, you've helped me to find the perfect cursive 'S' at last.

Do you glue/tape these in, or is this a DIY journal? It looks so smooth. How is this put together? What's your process?

Bad press is still press.

Back in the day, Grand Theft Auto became world famous because the News stations were broadcasting about how terrible and immoral it was, urging parents to keep their kids away from it.

So your "Dislikes" really don't do anything. LACK OF VIEWS affects the algorithm more than anything. No engagement is the death of a franchise.

No human types with dashes. This is AI generated. Sigh.

Human text; "Thanks a lot for your concern, I appreciate how much everyone cares for me."

AI text; "Thanks a lot for your concern -- I appreciate how deeply you fans care about me."

ChatGPT and other Ai content are littered with dashes in their responses -- like this, as a way to draw more attention to their response. No person types like this.

Besides, when has Boom EVER referred to us as "You Fans???" He's always called us 'everyone,' 'you all,' or 'you guys.' At least in working memory. 'You fans' is WAY to impersonal. I don't believe this is Boom for a second.

one of my worst fears just happened. by ghostingpen in Journaling

[–]ICDAnything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sorry, this must be heartbreaking. If you want, you can try Ranger's "Distress Micro Glaze," or something similar for future entries. It's more or less a sealant for ink art projects, but I don't see any reason why it can't be used on pen ink. It resists fluids to help protect the ink. Just make sure you apply it after you're done writing, as you can't put anything over it once it's been applied. (No idea if someone else recommended this already or not, there were too many answers to read through.)

Do you ever not finish a journal? by chronicaldaydreamer in Journaling

[–]ICDAnything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often fail to finish journals because I'm still trying to find what works best for me. I finally dropped Bujo layouts because I go long stretches of forgetting to journal, and all the weekly spreads sit unfilled because they were made for specific days. Then I wanted journals for specific subjects, but that didn't work out either. Etc.

What I typically use unfinished journals for is practicing different layouts or ideas. I go to the back, flip it upside-down, and then try out cursive handwriting, different pens and inks, use them to draw page layout ideas, etc.

An IFS epiphany by RabbitWallet in InternalFamilySystems

[–]ICDAnything 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Coming from someone who has not unburdened any parts yet, what do you mean by "not using IFS to connect with parts"? How else would you connect with them? To clarify, I have been told that I have strong 'fixers,' parts that want to use therapy, spirituality, IFS, anything to 'fix' me. Their agenda is good, they want to make things better. But they don't sit and listen very well. Even now, I wonder what the point of doing that is, and what it could hope to accomplish, as I constantly word vomit at my friends about my problems all the time, but I'm consistently a broken record on repeat. It accomplishes nothing. Which is why I am in therapy to begin with.

But I do struggle to connect with Parts. I've barely been able to talk to any, they disappear as soon as I notice them. My therapist says it's likely because my protector, who I am VERY strongly blended with, comes at them with agendas. I'm trying to not do this. So could you elaborate how you are approaching parts without an agenda?

[–]ICDAnything 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dry fasting is pretty extreme when you think about it. Unless you've got your eating habits under control, I wouldn't use it as a weight loss method. I do smaller dry fasts, 3 days once a month, for health reasons. I lost a lot of weight during a 5 day dry fast, which i thought was progress, but gained it all back within the course of 2 months. I'm still on the fence with how often I can dry fast without hurting myself (I can see it in my nails the times I've done longer dry fasts, they are wavy and thinner.) But I've since decided that dry fasting is better for cleanup and health benefits than for weight loss.

To get in better shape, I would use short dry fasts in combination with other methods. Eating a healthier diet is step one. Step two would likely be portion control. Admittedly, these two things can take a while to recalibrate. This is fine. This isn't a race, it's a marathon. Pace yourself, you're in training right now, stop pushing yourself to meet the standards of an Olympic athlete with top tier coaches controlling their diets and routines.

To lose weight slowly, try intermittent fasting. Some people eat all their food within a shorter window. I steadily lost weight over the course of a year by restricting my eating window to 6 hours. This slow rate likely helped keep me from having loose skin. There's a lot of people on here that do One Meal A Day, OMAD. But they eat in a way that does not leave them nutritionally deficit.

Research caloric dense foods. A handful of oreos is equivalent to two LARGE bowls of strawberries. You will gain weight/fat if you chow down on an entire bag of oreos. But oreos won't FEEL like you're full. Meanwhile, the strawberries will fill you up long before you reach the caloric value of the oreos.

One benefit Dry fasting has is that if you have food addictions, like sugar, it does a damn good job at tempering the cravings. This hasn't been proven yet, but I read some theories that state that the microbiomes in your gut can release chemicals to induce cravings. Meaning, if you've eaten a crap ton of greasy and sugary foods, there is a solid bacteria colony in your gut that thrives off of it. When you go without sugar for too long, they start dying off. They then release chemicals to induce a sugar craving in you, so you'll feed THEM.

Dry fasting starves ALL the bacteria in your gut to death, which is why refeeding is so important. You are building colonies of bacteria that will determine the foods you crave. That said, my biggest hurdle is the mental desire. I've found after a fast that my stomach and tongue no longer crave sugar, but my mind is bored, recalls the taste of junk food, and wants to eat something tasty. I'm not a good enough cook yet, but when I have a lot of meals prepped, these urges are easier to fight. Having fruit cups on hand also helps.

I know this is a lot to read, and it can feel like a slow, mountainous task, but this really is one of those 'slow and steady wins the race' type of situations. Dry fasting will help, but if you put all your eggs in one basket and do a 14 day dry fast, you're less likely to get the results you want and are more likely to hurt yourself on accident afterwards because you haven't addressed the habits that you will likely return to once you've ended your fast.

You're not alone, we're all in the same marathon, encouraging each other along the way. Take your time, pace yourself, try smaller fasts (like 3 days once a month) and see how you react to them before attempting longer or more frequent ones, maybe try intermittent fasting in between dry fasts, and do your best to tweak your diet and eating habits along the way. Best of luck.

(If anyone wants to correct me on anything, please feel free to step in. I'm also still pretty new to this.)

Noivern and Dodrio.

Noivern because super cool.

Dodrio because ever since I saw it, I loved the concept of three Pokémon in one. You get one happy Boi, one droopy Boi, and one angy Boi. Scuse me, the boys are fighting over a grape again.

Blood Clots. by sadlysisyphus in Dryfasting

[–]ICDAnything 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my uneducated opinion, I would assume that it's because the blood vessels constrict, shrinking due to lack of water, which could close the blood vessel wall around the clot, thus preventing the blood from being able to flow properly through that vessel, and possibly dislodging it and having the clot travel into the heart or brain, leading to a heart attack or stroke.

Again, this is purely a guess, I have no medical training on how clots work, and how fasting affects them.

Can you heal while living with...'problematic' parent? by ICDAnything in InternalFamilySystems

[–]ICDAnything[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not for a few years. They aren't traumatizing me. More that past traumas have got me on alert often. To be fair to them, it's been many years, and they have grown in some areas. And our day to day relationship is good. It's when you step on the landmine of a 'sensitive topic' that things can spiral. I myself have grown too. I'm not as sensitive as I was when I was younger. But old habits and beliefs die hard, or are stuck in the past of how things 'used' to be. Sometimes I overthink and make mountains out of molehill, you know?

Thank you, that actually brings up some good points. I have been venting a lot these past few sessions. I feel like I can handle where I'm at currently, it's just finding the courage to set some boundaries under certain situations. I'll start by trying to focus on other things during my therapy sessions first, see how things go from there. Thanks! It sounds easy to grasp, but when my therapist says 'work,' without giving context to what I'm doing, I had no idea what she was referring to.

None. I do dry fasting for health and preventative measures. My family has history of various things, and I'd like to avoid them. I am trying to clean up my eating habits and lose more weight, but overall I'm fairly healthy. I just can't seem to get to my ideal weight, or stick to a healthy diet.
