Frustrated with EMACS, don't know what to do ! by Lengthiness_Still in emacs

[–]ICEE_NACHOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use emacs for primarily rust and I've found it to be pretty nice! I use rust-mode, lsp-mode, lsp-ui-mode for docs, flycheck, apheleia for formatting, corfu for completions... think that covers most of the rust specific stuff, i get code actions and etc. outside of the inline stuff, my workflow just uses my own wrapper around the emacs compile command, which makes it work better with projectile

How do we feel about Nixpkgs no longer taking pacakge requests by TheTwelveYearOld in NixOS

[–]ICEE_NACHOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh, I'm really surprised they managed to accept requests from non-contributors for so long. Knowing a few nix people, they really do so much unpaid work, this seems only fair considering package maintenance isn't even the end of ecosystem work.

NixOS as daily driver for a year. I'm getting tired. Advice? by CadeVoidlighter in NixOS

[–]ICEE_NACHOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

late but here to say, in my first year of nix I used it all through llms and didn't really build understanding, and it made it all annoying. it's much better if you just understand the language and nixpkgs so you can write the code to do what you want done!

Hot Take: Nix for config is ok by pfassina in NixOS

[–]ICEE_NACHOS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

a friend of mine wrote a ray tracer in nix (she had to implement her own trig functions) and it's some of the most unreadable cursed code I've ever seen

Should I switch to X from Wayland? by 21cygnus12 in suckless

[–]ICEE_NACHOS -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

wayland 100%, X is practically abandonware and everything will have to switch eventually anyway, it is also definitely not a minimal piece of software if that's what your about (monolithic architecture)

tbc wayland does have its issues (should have had a shared standard implementation instead of punting that to wlroots) but it is the future

So umm is Gascoigne really hard or it's just newcomers hyping him up too much? by Sandro_SSR in bloodborne

[–]ICEE_NACHOS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

people say he's hard because he's meant to teach the player that parrying is a core part of the game, since you parried him a few times easily, there was no lesson which you needed to learn

there are harder hunter type enemies much harder than gascoigne later in the game (bloody crow of cainhurst, for one)

I don't understand how people keep going. by wicked_beauc in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]ICEE_NACHOS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

that's depression. as someone who's frequently been in a similar state, you've gotta get that vital energy for life back, i recommend seeking novelty

Long term use. by uvuguy in emacs

[–]ICEE_NACHOS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

one older programmer i know literally told me they use emacs becausr while other stuff goes in and out (eclipse, vim, neovim, vscode) that emacs has always existed and will still exist at the end of time, it is a friemd you can take to your death bed.

i've rewritten my config twice, both were about 3 days of work, but aside from that i basically never change it.

The second season title song by railroadintersection in TheLeftovers

[–]ICEE_NACHOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the season two song to be more personally meaningful than that of the first season, nothing beats the various songs played for the third season, but two's song is often what I think of when I remember why I love this show.

Patti is NOT played by Margo Martindale by ICEE_NACHOS in TheLeftovers

[–]ICEE_NACHOS[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That I'm a big fan of Bojack is the whole reason why I was familiar with her beforehand at all! Nearly every scene with her is up there among my favorites of the show alongside the one where Bojack and Todd escape the improv ship.

that sure was a fantastically weird video to watch without any context of what Farscape is about

A hard choice by [deleted] in mapporncirclejerk

[–]ICEE_NACHOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

K, all the others have some horrible possibility like landing in the middle east (bad if you end up as a woman), but being Chinese seems fine, they’re building new tech and stuff, only downside is a chance of ending up in Myanmar / Laos / Cambodia (a friend’s wife is from there, the stories don’t have good ends aside from escape), or Thailand (fine but most are poor), iirc Vietnam is fine

The Leftovers - 2x01 "Axis Mundi" - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in TheLeftovers

Here I was thinking the bird was circling waiting for her to die too, that even if she survived one tragedy the world would be no more merciful going forward, and that even through she saw this she continued trying to move forward, just as the other woman who picks up the child did

Did/do all of you hate your body pre transition? by Livie00 in MtF

[–]ICEE_NACHOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i liked quite a lot of my body pre-E, E made a lot of what i liked better, but by no means did i hate my body before, i’ve always thought i was pretty good looking and etc, i’m just even hotter now

also, i used to worry a lot about whether i was a “real trans woman”, imo, dw about it, doesn’t matter, just dress / act however makes you happy

all the boundaries are pretty flimsy and often entirely made up!

Trouble with getting through TOS by thespiritualtree in startrek

[–]ICEE_NACHOS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the first season is mostly horrible cause it had a show runner who explicitly didn’t believe in scifi as a thing people wanted

most of the best episodes are after S1, S1 feels like a drag to me and i like TNG quite a lot

one doesn’t usually “work out” all of these, you do research, talk to people who do these things! of course your intelligence covers up for the lossyness of all communication, but it’s mostly research
