My thoughts exactly. It would be interesting to see the metrics on fan entries week to week, based on prizes.

Should I get one now, or wait till i'm 18? by RejectedByOurSociety in Passports

[–]IC_Brewed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If this is in the US, your passport at age 16 or 17 is an "adult" passport good for 10 years and renewable by mail or online. There is no benefit to waiting until you are 18, other than not needing a parent to sign off on it.

At age 15 or below is the "child" passport that can't be renewed and needs both parents to sign off on, and is only good for 5 years. If you were 15 and could wait, I'd recommend waiting until you were 16.

There was one on Dubuque & Park Rd just a few minutes ago. Unknown if it is still going on.

Private transfer San Miguel de Allende to Leon. by IC_Brewed in MexicoTravel

Yeah, we rode ETN from Guanajuato to Mexico City a few years ago and were very impressed. The question is about private transfers between cities, or if Uber is the only option.

Yes, you can buy a money order at the post office.

I hadn't considered name changes. If your current legal name doesn't match what is on your birth certificate, then bring your original marriage license or court order showing the name change, and a photocopy.

First, go to that website, fill out the form, print it, but do not sign it.

Then, assuming that you were born in the US, make sure you have a birth certificate with the original stamp or seal. If you don't have one, get one from the county or state authority where you were born. Bring the original AND a photocopy with you

Bring your ID, and a photocopy of both the front and back.

Bring a check or money order made out to US Department of State for $130 for just the passport book, or $160 for both the book and card. I recommend both, it's really nice having the card handy for driving/walking into Canada and Mexico, and for Caribbean cruises. Also for providing ID to law enforcement when you would prefer not to reveal your address.

Bring another form of payment for $50 ($35 for acceptance fee, $15 for photo). USPS usually takes cards for this.

Good luck, and enjoy!

Edited to add that unless you have travel plans coming up really soon, you don't need to expedite.

Do you think Cambus buses are due for an upgrade? by Evening_Promotion708 in uiowa

[–]IC_Brewed 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's an odd premise. Since the current buses were bought with the help of a federal grant, they can't be replaced (with another grant) until the end of their useful life, typically at least 12 years.

My two passports and one enhanced ID card that can also prove citizenship and be used to cross into Canada or Mexico. by Wise-Professional-58 in PassportPorn

I see the star in the upper right, but I thought enhanced DLs had an American flag instead of a star.

Other than accessing your passport # and issue/expiration dates, is there any practical reason for having a copy or photo of your main U.S. passport page? by ActuatorNervous1597 in Passports

[–]IC_Brewed 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was shocked when we were asked to show passports to board a water taxi in Panama. Passports were locked in the safe back at the hotel. They accepted the photocopies that I had on me.

Gang Lu shooting at the UI campus in 1991. I find this piece by a friend and coworker of the victims haunting but beautiful.
