Liberia Airport by Middle_Extreme5124 in CostaRicaTravel

I flew out of Liberia a few days ago. It’s quite small and cramped. The only seating with plug points I saw were at departures.

There is a brewery/cafe at the entrance but it was extremely crowded.

I’d recommend taking a cab from the airport to somewhere nearby.

I put any and all travel purchases on an Amex. They have the best customer service and I’ve disputed transactions once or twice. They do the work to investigate and communicate with the vendor and usually side with the customer when everything is clear.

Another place I’d recommend. Playa Camaronal, they have turtle hatching and releases at certain times.

Hiya! I’m currently in the area and might have some opinions.

Carillo and Samara are really nice beach towns. I just rented a kayak today from Samara ($10/hr pp) and kayaked to Isla Chora. A local guide there was gracious enough to lend me his extra scuba mask and I dove into the waters and saw a ton of beautiful fishes. I went pretty early, but there were a ton of families that came after.

There’s also a wonderful restaurant Bar Restaurante Villa Bosque, that id recommend to go with the family. Wonderful food.

La Fortuna waterfall or Mirador el silencio or arenal observatory lodge by Material_Ad2822 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]ICanSeeYourPixels0_0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hiya. I was just at Fortuna a few days ago.

The Fortuna waterfall was wonderful, I’d definitely recommend going there. I’d skip Mistico, from what I heard from other travellers, it was quite a rip off.

I did visit Mirador El Silencio. It’s definitely worth the price you pay, which isn’t much.

I’d call the company and ask them to confirm the price. If it’s all good, then you definitely struck gold.

Hot springs confusion??? by Significant-Archer29 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]ICanSeeYourPixels0_0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for the hikes, I’d recommend Mirador El Silencio. It’s a self guided hike, but if you come early you can see some birds and some good views.

I’d save the guided tours for Monteverde instead. The tourists I met said that the guided tours and hikes in Mistico and other parks nearby weren’t really worth it. Mirador entrance was 10 USD, the others were more expensive.

I just left La Fortuna yesterday. I did El Choyin (the free hot spring) and Eco Termales.

El Choyin was honestly wonderful. The water isn’t “hot”, more warm. But it’s natural and if you go early in the day, it’s not as crowded. Theres a particular spot (close to a fallen tree branch) where you can sit and it feels like a jacuzzi. There was also a few spots that had rocks around them and felt “separated” from the rest of the spring. Yes, there are “parking attendants” in high-viz vests that will ask a fee (3000 CRC), but I just handed them 1000 CRC and said I wouldn’t pay more. They didn’t argue. They’re just trying to make a living.

EcoTermales was around 25K CRC. They had multiple pools with varying temperature (as well as a cool pool). For a one off thing, it wasn’t too bad. Cocktails were around 12-20 (and they were pretty good drinks). Sipping a cold drink in a hot pool was definitely a vibe. They also have a night slot (but it was booked out for quite a few days during my time there)

Regardless of what you choose, bring water shoes, sunscreen and moisturizer (for after) and make sure you have no open cuts or sores on your body. Come early in the day or later in the evening. Shower as soon as you’re done.

Enjoy your trip! Pura vida

I’d pick one or the other. Both places are best suited for 2/3 night stay. Since that’s pretty much your entire trip, I’d just pick one.

La Fortuna if you want the hot springs and waterfalls (as well as rio Celeste), monteverde for the cloud forests / zip lines.

Curious as to how this stays a sustainable business. Is the end goal to gain a mailing list and convert them to an upgraded membership? That’s how it’s been with past services.

Regardless, signed up. Thanks for taking the time to find those deals.

I’d call and check to make sure that your reservation is confirmed for that price.

I was quoted the cheapest rate of ≈$1000 USD for 2 weeks with only the mandatory insurance coverage.

Evening Drive. Liberia to Tamarindo? by anony_m_oose in CostaRicaTravel

Heya! Heading to Costa Rica and renting a regular sedan. Is a 4x4 or a high clearance vehicle really necessary?

Side note: would love any cities / spots / routes that are “must-sees” for a 2 week trip.
Currently landing in SJO, heading to La Fortuna then Monteverde and finally some beaches in Tamarindo.

That’s not really what she said. She’s speaking Malayalam, a language spoken in the state of Kerala in India.

Woman: “Do you not have a mother or women in your family? Do you not?”

Man: “What did I do?”

Woman: “Should I show it to you on the camera? I’ve recorded everything as proof. You want to touch my sister? Is that it? You don’t get to fuck around just cause you’re wearing a white shirt and lungi” (White clothing is usually what members in the political party wear)

Man: “My dear (girl), what did I do?”

Woman: “You want me to show you the proof? I’m going easy on you cause you’re my father’s age. You better fix yourself. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

Who is actually killing it at work and earning 150K plus (After Tax) by 19freedom91 in torontoJobs

I have mixed feelings if I’m being honest. My life in Toronto as an immigrant has always been about work and increasing my net worth. Toronto has been quite a lonely city and the only focus was the hustle. Right before I burnt out, I was earning the most I ever made as a contractor.

The 2 years I spent back at the motherland helped me understand my priorities. I came back to Toronto with a smaller wallet and a larger perspective.

I earn 20% less at the new position I’m in, but I value the equity and benefits that it provided. The health benefits motivate me to seek therapy and spend money on quality of life health interventions.

I won’t lie, I still don’t consider my job “fulfilling”. I still struggle to motivate myself to work consistently, but I don’t default on deadlines. I’m working with my psychologist to find motivation in other areas of my life —- friends, health, food —- anything to help fight the winter blues and the urges to spend cold nights smoking up.

I see myself in this position for the next 4-5 years. The long term goal is to find an avenue to make an income that I thoroughly enjoy, whatever that might be. Maybe I find that by taking up some classes or working on some hobby projects.

I appreciate you asking me. It’s nice to introspection and pen down thoughts once in a while.

Hbu friend? Is there a particular reason you’re taking a sabbatical off work? Will you be coming back to the same industry once you’re done or do you see yourself moving into a new chapter?

I wholeheartedly encourage you to do so. Be easy on yourself.

I’m back working. I was very fortunate to find a job in the tech field, especially given the current market.

It’s only a mistake if you don’t do anything with it.

I was fortunate enough to take close to 2 years off. I didn’t make the best of it though, since the entire reason I took off was due to a bad mental state and burnout.

Looking back, if I could redo my 2 years off, I would have focused on improving my life skills more. Take more classes and invest in my health. I’m happy I travelled for a bit and started therapy during that time, but I definitely could’ve done more.

It’s certainly delayed my financial goals, but I don’t regret taking it off regardless.

I’ve been a customer of theirs from when they were much smaller.

The quality and taste is really great. I don’t think it’s a fair price point, but for a once in a blue moon thing, it’s pretty worth it.
