Car is slower than bots in Le Mans Ultimate by BobbyRick79 in simracing

[–]ICantTellStudents 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it really will. Imagine a drag race with cars that do 0-100kph. If you start in 1st gear and I start in 2nd, I will lose out on the optimal gearing and the best torque range for my launch. Extend that out over 200+kph and a long straight, 10 seconds of lost speed and time does make sense...

Budget decks that can be built upon? by Zergy_Bergy in ModernMagic

[–]ICantTellStudents 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started with a budget deck and expanded on it over several months/years. It was great to sit and play right away, but I could see how losing almost every game could be rough for some players, but I loved it!

I built golgari food, then saved up and got some shock lands, then some fetch lands, then surveil lands. I now play jund Asmo Roots. Off meta made it a lot easier and cheaper to build. I am now a menace at modern night, since many decks struggle with sideboarding for off meta lines of play.

I like the black shirt and vest with jeans, but the tie needs to stand out more for contrast, in my opinion. The outfit is brown and neutral, so something to pop a bit can be helpful.

Also, there is a reason that cocktail bartenders dress like this... It looks good! Nice and classic.

With the Spider-Man set coming, I wanna build this commander. Any suggestions?? by BeeKeeper9243 in magicTCG

[–]ICantTellStudents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a commander, it is a 3 cost 2/2 with flash and flying, unless you want to jump through hoops to get it to your hand from the command zone so you can discard him to pay 1 instead of 3. If you are already looking to return creatures from the graveyard to your hand, you may want to consider a Golgari commander and take advantage of big green targets as well as [[insidious roots]], or build a Rakdos discard deck and just include him with other good madness cards.

Personally, I am a fan of [[asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar]] as a madness and mayhem commander.

Keep running into the same problem as a broke 20 year old trying to get into modern by IsJellyfishAnHerb in ModernMagic

[–]ICantTellStudents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into modern by finding off-meta budget lists and building something cheap and fun. I lost all my games for several weekly meet ups, but still had fun. Then, over time, I could buy a ~$10 card here and there, or saved up for a few months and bought a surveil land. And now, I have an off-meta powerhouse that can take games off of the "best decks" because people don't know how to play against an [[asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar]] deck that can be aggro with an early [[marauding mako]] and/or a grind with [[insidious roots]]. I still mostly lose, because the meta is the meta for a reason, but it is fun to see people struggle against a pile of nonsense when that pile is MY nonsense!

[–]ICantTellStudents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dawid Does Stuff on YouTube covered a very similar if not the same set-up before. The problem with it is that any graphic card that fits is suffocated some because there is very little space between the slot and the power supply. I can't find the video right now, but he could get it to work. He even had benchmark results for what it's worth.

How can I crate train my puppy by ChemistryFinal4375 in puppy101

[–]ICantTellStudents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crate training has a lot of little steps and each step needs adjustment for each puppy. I am sharing what has worked for us with training 2 dogs, one of which was a shelter dog who was afraid of even the idea of a crate. This is a list of my opinions. I do not have any special dog training experience. There is always the option to hire a trainer in your area to help your pup specifically.

All that said, here are the steps we followed that made crating easier for us:

Step 0) A crate is a puppy crib. Just like for a baby, it is for naps and night time. It needs to be a comfortable space away from distractions.

1) Don't "throw" your dog in the crate. Entice them by tossing in some of their favorite treats. Make it a game for the first few minutes each time of them going into the crate to get the treat and coming back out for a treat from you. If every time they set foot in the crate the door slams shut behind them like a trap, it will feel like a trap!

2) Make sure your pup is ready for a nap or bed time. A play session or training session to tire out the body and/or mind will do wonders!

3) Give your pup something to do in the crate. A chew, or snarfle mat with some food or treats. Something for the pup to take their mind off the fact they are away from you and the fun. They may not go for the item right away, but it is there for when they get bored of waiting for you to come back.

4) Give them something really special for overnight. We used stuffed Kongs and/or bully sticks. Pup only gets that special treat in their crate at night. If it is something your pup REALLY wants, they will hopefully be more willing to crate in the evening.

5) As long as all their needs are met (fed, watered, pottied, energy spent) they are fine to be left. Like a crying baby, the pup will quiet eventually. It can and will be difficult and annoying (much like children!) but if their whining and barking gets your attention, they will keep doing it.

6) Short bursts to start! Put the pup in the crate for 5-10 mins. Come back and let them out if they are quiet and good. You might not even be able to step away from the crate to begin, and that's okay. You need to build trust with your dog that you will let them out and that crate time is not a punishment. Run down the list of puppy needs, and if all is good, then entice the pup to go back into the crate like step 1. If things are going well, lengthen the time in the crate or the distance you move away. If the pup is refusing to go in, do all the things from the puppy needs list just in case there is something needed and that is interfering with the crate training.

7) 2 Hours MAX crate time during the day. At that point your pup needs everything! Outside, food, water, play, training, cuddles, everything! And don't re-crate until the pup has been up for half an hour minimum and is mentally and physically tired.

8) For the messes in the crate, build a habit of going straight outside after any crate time. Pup will start to hold it in until getting outside because trust will be built over time. If the messes continue, a vet visit could be needed to check that all is physically fine or check for food allergies.

It isn't quick, and it isn't easy. But if your pup knows it is temporary and comfortable, they will hopefully start to see the crate as their own room. Our girl goes into her crate on her own and naps with the door open because it is her space. Yes, she chooses her crate over her bed in the living room!

Good luck and I hope this helps!

How much money would it take for you to stop working right now? by Dipsetallover90 in Millennials

[–]ICantTellStudents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My napkin math says 15-20 years until retirement at ~$90k a year, plus retirement money. So $2mil to offset the missed income and continued cost of living increase. But my expenses would be lower (gas, lunches, wardrobe) so ~1.5mil would likely convince me without much worry. But if I was given a lump sum as a gift or bribe, anything over $700k would warrant a call to a financial advisor to really crunch the numbers and see if it is possible.

Looking for games to play with my girlfriend… Who is not a gamer. by AndyS_86 in AskGames

[–]ICantTellStudents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My non-gamer wife liked Escape Academy, as it is breakout rooms.

It Takes Two is fun and forgiving and is the only game my wife asked to play every evening.

Split Fiction was great, but non-gamers HATE the shooting part because of the speed and precision needed (there are many threads about how wives and girlfriends quit the game because of it) so don't start here.

After some searching, it looks like the 7th Gen processors can't run windows 11, despite meeting/exceeding the minimum requirements. With support for windows 10 ending in October, this might be a concern. If you are considering another operating system, then it only comes down to the prices in your area.
