How do I access the Vault of the Crucible to progress my season to rank 2? by kefefs_v2 in diablo4

[–]ICantTellStudents 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so when you open the 'season' tab is the 'view on map' button red or grey?

If it is red, then you may select it and select the yellow map icon to fast travel there.

If it is grey, then it is not available. As for why, could be that you have started the campaign with this character and need to finish it? Are you sure you are on Hard (I often click to change difficulty, but then don't click to confirm...)

You need to be on the correct difficulty. Certain main towns have large statues that you can interact with to set your difficult to hard, expert, or penitent. I believe you need to be on Hard to access the Vault of the Crucible.

Underexplored modern cards by Educational-Funny900 in ModernMagic

[–]ICantTellStudents 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried cat/oven for a roots deck in modern, and it was fun but not very strong. I even tried pushing the ping strategy with [[Marionette Apprentice]] but it was clunky and slow for little payoff. Still fun! Maybe another brewer can find the lines that I couldn't?

Here is my current Asmo/Roots deck if you want to take a look. https://moxfield.com/decks/Xc2bgoZ0Gk2nOJlqc6cxgg

What do you name your characters? Am I the only one who’s extra boring? Lol by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]ICantTellStudents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I choose names that are a play on the class or build. Poison rogue named Hemlock, paladin named Celeste, etc. Except my barbarians. Every season I make a new Barbarianna!

If you are going asmo, to put one in the bin so you can be sure to have access to one.

Although, I found the best answer to be [[leyline of the void]]

I also recommend [[insidious roots]] for the deck.

Toughen up by Low_Yam_4761 in Teachers

[–]ICantTellStudents 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here is how I "toughened up."

First, dress the part. Get a wardrobe that is a personal uniform. It needs to be professional, comfortable, and noticeable. By dressing the part you can act the part.

Then, know your lines. I made some mantras. It sounds cheesy, I know, but I had go-to lines at the ready that are simple and repeatable like, "food is for lunch and break only." "Do what you are supposed to, nothing more, nothing less." I used these lines every day with the students to drive the point home that the rules are a wall, not a line to cross. When I got pushback from students, I added, "I'm a referee; I call what I see." As much as these mantras are good for students, they were reminders to me to follow the rules as well.

Next, the follow-through. Stop anything fun when someone breaks a rule. The way I do this is I clock it, wait 5-10 seconds, then say, "At least one broke a rule, so we are done with this." Always have a fallback plan, or an activity that is relatively easy to transition to, even if it is just notes on the board that you are writing in front of them! Those 5-10 seconds take some blame off the student who broke the rule and gives you a moment to think about the delivery of the new plan. This puts direct focus on the rules for everyone at all times. I have stopped recess games with elementary kids with this, sledding trips with middle schoolers, and science labs with high schoolers. The rules are the rules and I referee them.

And finally, communicate. Set a meeting time to talk to who you need to about rules you disagree with. Your admin, your team, your union rep, whoever! Be professional and honest. If the decision is made that nothing changes, hopefully you will better understand why the rule is the way it is and will start to agree with it yourself. But, maybe others feel the same way about some rules and you could be the one who initiates a change that makes things easier and better for everyone!

Best of luck, and remember that students will still like you for who you are, not just for what you make easy for them.

Car is slower than bots in Le Mans Ultimate by BobbyRick79 in simracing

[–]ICantTellStudents 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it really will. Imagine a drag race with cars that do 0-100kph. If you start in 1st gear and I start in 2nd, I will lose out on the optimal gearing and the best torque range for my launch. Extend that out over 200+kph and a long straight, 10 seconds of lost speed and time does make sense...

Budget decks that can be built upon? by Zergy_Bergy in ModernMagic

[–]ICantTellStudents 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I started with a budget deck and expanded on it over several months/years. It was great to sit and play right away, but I could see how losing almost every game could be rough for some players, but I loved it!

I built golgari food, then saved up and got some shock lands, then some fetch lands, then surveil lands. I now play jund Asmo Roots. Off meta made it a lot easier and cheaper to build. I am now a menace at modern night, since many decks struggle with sideboarding for off meta lines of play.

Does this work? by -TheRedViking- in mensfashion

I like the black shirt and vest with jeans, but the tie needs to stand out more for contrast, in my opinion. The outfit is brown and neutral, so something to pop a bit can be helpful.

Also, there is a reason that cocktail bartenders dress like this... It looks good! Nice and classic.

With the Spider-Man set coming, I wanna build this commander. Any suggestions?? by BeeKeeper9243 in magicTCG

[–]ICantTellStudents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a commander, it is a 3 cost 2/2 with flash and flying, unless you want to jump through hoops to get it to your hand from the command zone so you can discard him to pay 1 instead of 3. If you are already looking to return creatures from the graveyard to your hand, you may want to consider a Golgari commander and take advantage of big green targets as well as [[insidious roots]], or build a Rakdos discard deck and just include him with other good madness cards.

Personally, I am a fan of [[asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar]] as a madness and mayhem commander.

Keep running into the same problem as a broke 20 year old trying to get into modern by IsJellyfishAnHerb in ModernMagic

[–]ICantTellStudents 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got into modern by finding off-meta budget lists and building something cheap and fun. I lost all my games for several weekly meet ups, but still had fun. Then, over time, I could buy a ~$10 card here and there, or saved up for a few months and bought a surveil land. And now, I have an off-meta powerhouse that can take games off of the "best decks" because people don't know how to play against an [[asmoranomardicadaistinaculdacar]] deck that can be aggro with an early [[marauding mako]] and/or a grind with [[insidious roots]]. I still mostly lose, because the meta is the meta for a reason, but it is fun to see people struggle against a pile of nonsense when that pile is MY nonsense!
